Random Commanders Thoughts

Today’s presser with Rivera and Mayhew was previously scheduled but the beat reporters said 1:30.

Probably routine but notable that he’s doing it with Mayhew.

Maybe he's getting promoted. Would be about on par with underqualified people on the staff.

One more factor and it's huge...

New ownership will likely not be in place until the league meetings at the end of March. That is 2 weeks after the start of FA.

Snyder isn't going to write the required check to front Payne staying here and 31 other teams know it. Drop a big enough contract in front of Payne on March 15 and he is having an introduction presser somewhere else on March 16.
Too bad we can't do a sign and trade. Then again, with the cap a sign and trade might put on the hook for the signing bonus so never mind.

It’s on now but nothing but Mayhew and Rivera making excuses and praising Wentz for ‘getting us back on a winning track’. This whole crew needs to be sent packing. They are delusional about what occurred this season and what decisions drove that failure. So done with this front office and staff. And Mayhew may be the most clueless of them all.

That press conference was a joke. They didn't say shit worth listening to, and gave vanilla answers.

They even tried to say that Wentz helped turn the team around. What a slap to the face of Heinicke, Payne, Allen, Dotson, mclaurin, and the others who did all the real work.

Didn’t we learn from the congressional testimony that Mayhew was the guy pushing for Wentz? This must their way to say “look at all the good we did”. I mean, I don’t expect them nor want them to throw any players under the bus, but saying Wentz got the team back on the winning track is pretty laughable.

Literally an excuse-a-thon. Never heard more excuses given in my life.

Yeah, that was a big old nothingburger--standard issue end-of-year coach- and "GM"-speak. I'm disappointed, but not surprised or outraged. I don't think it changes anything beyond the apparent reality that Ron does not plan to resign or retire just yet.

I wish some reporter would have the cajones to call them out when they get like this.

"Ron, why is Scott still here? I know you see the fans and players comments". Things like that. Hold them to the fire!!

He was asked how he can state they are making progress when they’ve gone 7-7-8 wins in back to back seasons. His response was more excuses.

Ron and the Marty’s are not done damaging the franchise. We need a new owner asap so he can stop the insanity even if they don’t clean house this year.

Ron is back in the 1990's as a coach. He thinks taking 5 or 6 years to turn a team around and make progress is still acceptable.

He has never appreciated how the salary cap and free agency limits the time coaches have with any core of players and how important it is first and foremost solidify the quarterback position with a capable and consistent starter.

As a Team President, he shows his own lack of confidence in running an organization by hiring ONLY front office and coaches that owe him their careers and the chances of having a second voice in meetings is almost ZERO.

A guy like Parcells was a dominator with the press and his conflicts with individual players at times was visible to everyone.

But he hired coaches like Belichick, Coughlin, and down the line to Sean Payton to work for him as he recognized he needed talent to win, even if he was loathe to admit it publicly.

Ron thinks he can run a retirement community for ex-Panthers (grey panthers :p) and somehow out-distance coaches like Shanahan, McVay, Reid, etc. who work 18 hours a day and hire bright people to work for them to gain an edge.

Mayhew and Rivera both mentioned on multiple occasions that when the team played to it’s identity they won, when they veered from it they lost.

Who, other than Rivera (and to a lesser degree Turner), is responsible for sticking to the identity formula?

Exactly....I saw his quote that their ratio of pass/run wasn't what they wanted in the first few games because they didn't have Robinson. BS....they had Gibson who carried the load last year. He can do it for a few games or use one of your other backs to spell him.

The entire presser was an excuse-filled taco carefully wrapped in a mealy-mouthed word salad soft tortilla.

They had a chance to step up and take responsibility for what they've done. They could have given real answers and addressed some of the things they should have. But, they decided to give vanilla answers and dodge anything worth talking about.

Once they went there, everything else they said was easy to read. They really don't know how to steer this shop or even what direction to point it in. We have no captain or first mate to lean on for help, and the sailors aren't allowed to think for themselves.
