For those that didn’t see it, he posted a clip of his sack Sunday then the Ku Klux Klan scene from Django Unchained where the guy talks about people criticizing his wife for the eyeholes in their hoods …



Numerous teammates ‘liked’ it before he took it down. So basically, his coaches are like KKK members.

I'm sitting here listening to the recording of Rivera's presser today. He keeps referencing individual mistakes and claiming those are why we gave up 6 big plays.

And I buy it.

What I don't buy is that it is on the player exclusively. The coaches select the players. The coaches design the playbook. They teach it to the players. They choose who starts and who plays when. They call the plays.

To me, this is almost a chess player blaming their pieces.
 
Calling out Davis like that....I wouldn't give a rats ass after that comment. Rivera ain't calling out jack yet he's calling out a second year player being asked to cover receivers? Nah....

He's not concerned about our run D? We need to look at more than what's on the surface? He's done...he's mentally checked out and now just talking. Call out players but not coaches...you're done in my book

I mean I'm under know delusion that our talent rivals the 85 Bears, but I think this unit has plenty of talent to compete. Are they not because of fit? Because of scheme? Because of predictable and easily exploited play calling? Because of lack of hunger and hustle? Is it lack of discipline?

Regardless, this dodge that the D isn't talented rings false to me. If there are weaknesses that doesn't mean you can't play to your strengths. You shouldn't be so basic that every week you get your weak in space linebackers locked up on their best wide receiver. You should be able to clog running lanes against a third string offensive line. You should be making a QB fear for his life and play erratically if you have three first rounders against their third string line.

Talent at the NFL level doesn't overcome mental mistakes and bad fundamentals. It doesn't matter how talented you are if you have bad habits and mental breakdowns.

This defense sleepwalks on too many plays. Like that end-around run by the Lions in the second half. Like that inexcusable 70 yard TD pass by the Saints last year when the entire Washington secondary was busy playing with itself. This defense overall has a poor football IQ and bad coaching has a lot to do with it.

And I don't mean to get political, but I doubt the African American players on this team want to play hard for JDR. Not after his Trumpster comments last summer. I bet the locker room on this team is toxic.
 
Wasn't this D a top % or 10 D two years ago? I haven't done the work yet, but does anyone know the personnel change since then? My gut is this is coaching not players which is why I ask.

The big change was Darby for William Jackson. We also demoted Jon Bostic. Chase is hurt.
 
We've also removed depth along the D-line, so Payne / Allen / Sweat are forced to play 85% of the snaps vs 75% in 2019.





Not a MASSIVE difference, but it changes the workload, as well as having them the most effective at certain times.
 
Everyone knew that getting rid of those DL players was a bad idea.
 
The NFL isn’t static. If you aren’t improving, you’re getting worse. We’ve done almost nothing to add strength and playmaking ability on defense. We added Phil Mathis this off-season and that was the only major addition - and immediately lost him for the season.
 
Landon Collins is still out there and fast enough to be a LB in coverage....if healthy.
 
I would like a healthy Collins back, but the fact that we're in the 2nd week of the season and noone else has signed him, makes me think his tires or front end alignment failed the State safety inspection.
 
Our D needs tires kicked all the way around!
 
Yeah, sorry. I feel like there is sufficient talent on this defense that we should be getting more out of it.

Great coaches have been doing more with less since the dawn of organized sports.
