Random Commanders Thoughts

My main response is to the Griffin book deal and his supposed details. I don’t think he has anything worthwhile and that’s why he can’t find a writer.

As for ESPN, I don’t know why it’s not being covered more. My cynical thought is because then they would have to address the DeSean Watson scandal as well, which they have just been trying to avoid. I think they are torn in that one over which side to pick. Again, that’s the cyclical guess from me. But it’s also cynical to say that ESPN won’t cover the Snyder scandal just to protect a corporate partner.

I think a more reasonable explanation is they are waiting for that smoking gun. They are waiting on something obvious. It could be because the way ESPN stories are ranked is by page views. So the general public may not be as interested and not viewing the story, which pushes it down the page and ESPN doesn’t spend time covering it. Outside of this market, I don’t think it’s moving the needle and that seems to be ESPN’s main motivation for what they cover these days.

I guess i wonder if he's right? ESPN's reporting on this has been zilch. Could they be affraid of losing MNF or any future programming? I don't know that they're protecting Dan as much as they're protecting themselves..... ?

I have no doubt the dude probably had very little... but someone got to him. I think he's egotistical enought to believe whatever he has to say is important enough, even if / when it isnt. I honestly feel he got muzzled. Whether it be ESPN, NFL, Dan Snyder directly... SOMEONE got to him and told him to shut up. That someone may have been his publisher...

I don’t believe ESPN had anything to do with it. They love controversy and scandal. If they could use their influence to push out an owner, especially one that is tied to sexual assault, they would do it in a heartbeat.

ESPN is the broadcast partner with the NFL for Monday Night Football. Plus ABC just secured the rights to two upcoming Super Bowls. Negative content about a league team from one of it’s employees would not be in Disney’s best interest.

How they're right about Turner

As posted in the Wentz thread

It's been well over a month and I'm at a crossroads now. My son is pissed I quit the team.

"This was grandpa's team. This is the family team"

No matter how much I tried to explain it, no matter how much I made the browns look good and pump them up for him...he wouldn't budge.

We're talking crying and pissed off emotions. For some damn reason Fortnite has a "Chase Young" skin you can buy and play as....and of course he did it!

So, I'm back. Begrudgingly I'm back. I'll try to keep my negative thoughts to myself and root for the team. I'm not here to mess up anyone else's good time.

HE'S BACK!!!!!

You know you've got a seat at the table.

Screw Brady, the real return just went down!

Man, the Commanders got better and the Colts took a step back... 👀 :ROFLMAO:

Belichick and the front office really made hay in the draft and especially with these undrafted free agents.

Center David Andrews and cornerback JC Jackson were both undrafted players who not only made the team but went on to be pro bowlers and be rewarded with large second contracts.

The Commanders have made some good draft choices in McLaurin, Allen, Gibson, Kurl, etc. but we really could use a dose of those UDFA's that come in on minimum deals and provide outsized production for their first 4 seasons in the league.

How is it that when I read articles about Washington's draft needs, I rarely see LB listed at all, much less near the top?

A great example is this article from Pro Football Network where they list our needs, in order, as QB, TE, OG, S, OT. How is it that a team with veteran starters penciled in at each of those positions but NO legit MLB doesn't need a LB? I just don't get it.

I think this is where people need to at least factor into the conversation about "was it Brady or was it Belechick." Belechick is a master of being able to find and fit talent to be effective in his scheme. He's a freakin wizard. He routinely takes cast aways, guys on their 'final chance' or under appreciated players and makes it work. This is where Development is more important than draft status. How much is "finding' them, and how much is 'building' them?

LBs are not sexy. I think it’s the biggest hole on defense, but unless you are a DE/LB Edge, the draftnicks don’t rate them very highly. So then the teams with those needs don’t have LBs listed with these guys either.

Also, keep in mind, some of the listed Commander steals (like Kam Curl) came from previous iterations of the FO, like with Kyle Smith. So, looking at last year and this year, those are the "Rivera / Marties" years.

True, but there have been a number of cast offs and inexpensive vets that have come here and gave their career a shot in the arm. McKissic, Logan Thomas, Wes Schweitzer, David Mayo, Cole Holcomb, Deandre Carter, even Taylor Heinicke.

My point was more about Belechick and how he always seems to 'find the gem.' I think it has as much to do with developing the gem as it does finding them... something we've struggled with for a while. Players seem to come here and have a hard ceiling that caps out once their talent takes them as far as it can.... we haven't seen many players go beyond that, because we struggle at developing. In New England you routinely see guys leave and underperform. They didn't become 'worse football players' because they changed what color jersey they were wearing.... I come back to Tom Brady again, had we drafted Brady, I don't think he wins 6 rings. In fact, I'd venture to guess he barely got to touch the field. Probably rides out his rookie deal and goes elsewhere...

Methinks it's no coincidence that the COMMANDERS first two outside acquisitions are RED heads. The name lingers on...

I'd prefer Lavar be nowhere NEAR Jon Allen, but the message appears to be a good one. Allen is all in.
