Sounds like there's enough interest in him--with the understanding that probably 75% of what we hear right now is smoke--that he's not going to be cheap.

I haven't seen him play enough to really have a strong opinion of his leadership skills, his pocket sense, ability to read/adjust on the fly, etc. If we do end up signing him, I'll keep my fingers crossed that Rivera & Co. feel he's a good fit.

Something to factor in to these discussions….

The team has apparently stated (behind the scenes) that it’ll either sign a free agent QB, or draft a QB - but not both.

if that’s the mentality, it’s going to be a major factor in these conversations because it’s one thing to sign a 2nd tier free agent if you are also going after a QB aggressively in the draft. But bringing in a 2nd tier guy as the presumed long-term starter? Why do that, especially if you’re having to give up something to do it? We already have two 2nd tier guys.

Regarding Trubisky, he seems like the most realistic option for the WFT. Be nice to sign him, use the 1st rounder on a WR and take Strong in the 2nd.

So weird. Never really gave this much thought. Your post finally made me do this ...

Not every NFL scout/team thinks hand size is a potential deal-breaker on a guy. As I recall, Michael Vick had 8.5" hands, and that sumbitch could fling it. But, in fairness, he was also quicksilver and not many defenders could get a hand on him to knock it loose ... which from what I'm gathering is one main reason some NFL types are scared of smaller-handed QB's. To me it's part that, and maybe even more than that how they handle cold/wet footballs in weather games.

Reason I'm going there is I really like what I've seen from Kenny Pickett. Based on all the games/vids I've watched of the top-rated QB's coming out this year, he's the one that looks most like an NFL quarterback to me. It's early though. Much research and over-analysis yet to be done.

Based on your hand size I am moving you from a late round pick to the 3-4 round.

Pickett playing for Pitt must have resulted in many opportunities to perform in cold and wet conditions so it may be a whole lotta noise about nothing.

Watching the QBs at the combine taught me nothing. That said, I think that Desmond Ridder looks to be a serious riser and someone that I hope has the front office’s attention.
