What’s your max offer for Russell Wilson?

Started discussing in another thread. What’s your max offer to bring 33 year old Russell Wilson to DC? It has to be an offer you think the Seahawks might accept. You can choose up to 3 offers.

I voted 2 1st rounders. Wilson would be this year’s 1st rounder for the team and then one more.

I do think that all the Wilson focus/chatter is entertaining but…

1. Who will Seattle have at QB, in a tough division, if they trade Wilson? One of the same second tier QBs that we don’t want?
2. Do they need a total rebuild? (I don’t think so.)
3. If so, is Pete Carrol, who will be 71 at the start of the season, down with that? (I don’t think so.)
4. If Wilson really really wants out (and I don’t think he does) is he willing to threaten retirement? (Again, I don’t think so.)

I think it partially depends on how much longer Carroll plans on coaching. If he’s one of those ‘I’ll coach as long as I can stand’ guys, I could see him trying to dump Wilson for a ton of capital while he’s still valuable. They did listen to offers last year and turned down two #1’s I believe? If he only plans to coach a couple more years it is hard to see it being a real possibility, I agree.

I don’t know if Wilson will demand a trade or threaten to sit out or even if he’s be interested in Washington.

Hey Burgundy Burner - you referencing Heinicke’s height or Russell Wilson’s? Doesn’t seem to bother Wilson like it does other short QBs (like Heinicke who struggles seeing downfield and has a lot of tipped passes).

Play related. He is a highlight reel, but there are times when he struggles for whatever reason. Look at what he did against Washington this season.

I personally would trade 3 first round picks for Russell Wilson.

There are several reasons:

1. Rebrand - the start of a new era requires something to get the fanbase to rally around. Let's face it, there are a lot of people who are down on this franchise right now with the departure of "Redskins." What better way to peak interest with the arrival of a bonafide #1 Quarterback. We all remember the energy that Robert Griffin's rookie year infused into this fanbase. I think Wilson can be the type of guy to create that kind of buzz around here.

2. Leadership/Culture - Ron Rivera has done a great job of starting to rebuild the culture here in Washington and cleaning things up. You add a guy like Russel Wilson, you are bringing in what seemingly is a pretty clean resume in terms of character. I believe he is the perfect fit at a position of leadership on the football field for what Rivera is trying to instill in our locker room. He appears to be a stand up guy and somebody that this fanbase could fall in love with for the right reasons. When I was a kid, those championship Redskins teams had a lot of good guys that you were proud of cheering on not only as players, but as people. Wilson feels like that kind of guy to me.

3. Winner - Wilson has been to 2 Super Bowls. He knows what it takes to win. Rivera needs a guy like that on the field who has been through it. As we saw last season for Washington, the season is a different animal with the weight of some expectations on you. We struggled in 2021 to get over the hump and take the next step as a franchise. Wilson instantly brings a winner's reputation to the building that a lot of our younger players need to look up to. The reality is that the best leader we have on this team is Jonathan Allen. The problem with that is Johnathan Allen has known nothing but losing for the majority of his pro career. Wilson brings instant credibility to the field for our core group of young guys.

4. Assets - I voted for spending 3 first rounders on Wilson. That routes keeps some of your core guys on offense and defense in the building. It allows you to add to the roster without creating new holes on the roster elsewhere. Simultaneously, it helps in selling Terry McLaurin to stick around these parts long term. Let's face it, Terry might be the one guy currently on the roster we would all agree cannot depart (outside of Jon Allen). #17 has been exposed to a QB carousel since his entry into the league. I am pretty sure he is giving Washington serious consideration for a long term deal if you bring in Russell.

So - according to the New York Post the Bears offered ‘three first-round picks, a third-rounder, and two starters, per a source, though it wasn’t clear who those starters were.’ They were close to agreeing but Carroll nixed it the day after it was offered. If they would do it for 2 first rounders, Young and Payne, I’m doing it. But 3 firsts and a starter is one two many assets for me.

That is 4 first-round picks - one of them the second overall.

Seems like a lot for a guy who could be done physically at just about any moment.

I don’t think Payne is part of our future and is likely to be traded regardless but yes - we used a 1st on him. I’m not sold on Chase Young. He’s a physical beast but I don’t believe he’s going to be the next Aaron Donald - I’ve seen nothing so far that makes me view him that way, so that colors my thinking. I think we could cut both those guys and maybe not notice that much on defense. I know most would say that’s crazy but just my opinion.

I think they’ll find out this is the kind of offer it would take to get a top tier veteran in here and if they decide it’s way too much I can respect that. But it will be that kind of expensive.

With at best average QB play a year ago, we found a way to get to 6-6 and were right in the thick of the playoff race. At a few points, we were even in control of our own destiny. Injuries plagued us all year and then we got derailed by COVID at a bad time in the schedule. Minus those things, it always felt like this would have been a one and done playoff team. In fact, outside of Griffin's rookie year, we always had the feel of a one and done playoff team in the years that we made it. I just feel like we are constantly going to go in circles, rotating between being really bad or just being average, if we aren't willing to take a risk.

Sooner or later, we are going to have to be okay with striking out while trying to swing for the fences, as opposed to just putting the ball in play.

Hell, we have lost for almost 30 years, and at times done so very terribly. What are we afraid of at this point?

All this being said, the last thing I want to mention is this:

I am 100% with going all in on a Russell Wilson, provided it is on Ron Rivera's terms. If it is a shot being called for by the owner, then it is an approach that is likely bound to fail. There's a big difference between the two scenarios I believe.

Before I comment on what I'd be willing to trade, I'm going on record that I don't think Wilson is going anywhere. Carroll and Schneider are both going to be back with Seattle this next year and everyone there knows the window to win another Championship with Carroll is closing - one way or another. There is no ready-made replacement for Wilson on that roster and unless they are willing to give up the farm for Watson there just isn't going to be anyone available who can give them what Russell gives them. I'm also reading a number of places where Wilson has said he wants to finish his career in Seattle. Everyone there got a glimpse of "life after Russell" this year when he missed games after finger surgery and I can't see anyone there wanting to do that for a whole season.

Per what I'm reading, Seattle needs O-line, D-line, and Defensive Backs. Of those, our surplus is D-Line so it makes sense to look at that roster group for trade material. Additionally, Seattle only has 6 picks this year. They have no picks in the 1st and 6th round but have 2 picks in the 4th.

With that as background...

I'd be willing to part with this year's 1st & 6th to fill in their draft class, next year's 2nd, a conditional pick in 2024 not to be less than our 4th*, and one of Young, Payne, or Sweat.

*Conditions
1st - Russell plays 80% of offensive snaps in 22 and 23, Washington makes the Super Bowl once
2nd - Russell plays 70% of offensive snaps in 22 and 23, Washington makes the NFC Championship once
3rd - Russell plays 60% of offensive snaps in 22 and 23
4th - Default regardless of what happens with Russell

In answer to your question CH...I'm afraid of sucking ass for the next decade because of a botched mega-move for a QB. Again. I'm afraid of never seeing another amazing team in Burgundy and Gold. I'm afraid of seeing the Effing Cowboys, Eagles, or Giants win yet another Super Bowl while my beloved team struggles to make the playoffs.

I'm afraid of betting the farm on a guy who is 33. He could play another 4 or 5 years. He could also play 1 or 2. Or less. And I'm afraid of doing that on a guy who might not be the same guy after that hand injury this year.

I’d trade this years first, next years first, and Payne. Maybe another player, but not another D Lineman. And not one of the cornerstones on offense.

I wouldn’t trade Young. They may regret that in a few years, but it’s too early to give up on him. Unless of course the coaches see something in practice or off the field they don’t like. I used to feel the same way about Sweat, but his contract is up after 2022. So they have a decision to make with him. But as I said above, I don’t think I’d trade 2 d lineman, unless you only had to give up 1 first rounder.

It is a bit early to give up on Young, BUT, dude needs to go to OTA’s and all practices instead of commercial shooting. If he skips again and has another shitty season then they should offload him asap.

I have a hard time giving up 3 !st for an aging QB. I really like his game a lot and like Boone said I think we win the division every year with him for as long as we have him. But that's the problem. We all know your one snap away from serious injury (RGIII) and mortgaging the future like that is a risk I don't feel comfortable taking. I honestly hope they find the next QB via the draft just MO
