Not even a little bit. If we drafted a QB and he succeeds with the team, it would be in spite of Turner’s naivety and complete lack of situational awareness.

Ron drew from the Carolina well way too many times for familiarity & this record is the result. It was a bad idea then and sure showing it’s hideous head now.
 
FFS there’s no wonder this team continues to play like garbage. Ron’s comment is mind boggling

 
Wondering if he’s losing heart now that Dan’s been the major sports news this season. Throw in his OC is bush league as well as going thru cancer treatment, and he wears every hat in the bld just about. That’d wear anyone out

Regardless he needs to delegate some stuff if he can’t focus on fixing this. What’s left of the fan base deserves much better.

I think Ron is in over his head right now. There's so much going on off the field, it's impossible for him to be dedicate himself to the on-field stuff as much as it may be necessary. If this team had a stable foundation, and wasn't dealing with all the other 'stuff' it would be different.

i'm not trying to tell Rivera how to do his job, but I have to imagine the on field production would go up if there wasn't so much focus off the field.

But in what way is he dealing with other stuff? I doubt he has an active role in any of the legal/PR stuff to any great degree (that’s all Wright and Julie Donaldson )and Hurney and Mayhew are handling front office duties.

That we know of.. Wright / Hurney / Mayhew still report to Rivera... you think he doesn't have a hand in everything? He's likely also reporting back to Snyder, whether you believe that's Tanya or Dan. I guess he may not be doing what the GM is responsble for, and maybe the 'Martys' are handling that stuff, but I can't imagine he's not involved on any effect. Do we think he doesn't have to answer questions about why the stadiums are empty? If Rivera is the man we think he is, he's probably still losing sleep about the Sean Taylor weekend. Is the hammer going to come down and he's going to have to forfeit draft picks? Maybe another Salary Cap penalty? Things that the coach should not even have to consider when we're talking about him coaching his team. HE is the final word, so even if he's not 'in every meeting,' he's still got his feet in that water.
 
Yeah Ron has to be chairing every SITREP regarding the team each morning. After Sean’s dedication disaster he probably feels he needs to be more involved in operations as well. A child planning their own birthday party could have done a better job than what the team did for Taylor’s # retirement.

Ron is the one who wanted all the responsibility so the buck stops with him. Fair or not he’s point man for this shitshow
 
He has a ton of help. There’s no excuse for him to have his hand in everything - if he does that’s on him. And to be honest, no I don’t think he’s thought of the Sean Taylor tribute since being asked about it - nor should he be thinking about it. Not trying to be argumentative - but he gets a pass for 2020, not in 2021. This season he’s got a ton of resources and the only thing that should have his attention is this team’s record and performance. I get that there have been a lot of *potential* distractions this year (aren’t there always with this team?) but I don’t get the feeling (other than having to field incessant JP Finlay questions) that it’s had any impact on Rivera, the coaches, or the teams performance. We aren’t a good football team and that’s literally the only thing he should be focused on.

Fans care about **** like this Win, not head coaches. He is 100% responsible, I agree. But I think you guys are kidding yourselves that he’s spent more time than it took to answer a media question on things like the bungled ST memorial, the email scandal, the name change, etc. I think the play on the field is enough to occupy his time and that might be overwhelming enough lol :)
 
Then again, maybe there’s not a lot of value in arguing over whether the stool specimen is brown or green and whether it was the stewed prunes or the 10 beers that is causing the problem :)

I'm not defending, or giving him a pass. My point was that the on field product is not good enough, and (i'm speculating) that there's too much going on off the field that's got his attention. He absolutely has the people to bear the burden, but I question whether or not he's utilizing those resources as much as he should (or at least disconnecting enough from those matters).

Maybe Rivera is a bad football coach. That's possible. Here's what I can tell you, we're 1.5 seasons in and a lot of us can identify alarming areas of the team that seem to be easy enough to address. Admitedly we're not privy to everything, and a lot of the struggles of the team can be explained by missed plays and failed opportunities, but if there's one thing this team is consistent at, it's being inconsistent. The first couple weeks of the season the offense looked like it was going to be even better than we expected.... now we're struggling to do anything inside the redzone, while the Defense literally hands them the ball with the game on the line....

Being a fan of this franchise and expecting success is the ultimate example of fantasy football.
 
As many of us likely expected, Rivera is no longer escaping criticism from our fanbase. The honeymoon for many people is over.

I honestly feel bad for the man. He took on a job where the dumpster fire flames were sky high before he even walked in the door. He took the risk of working for the worst owner in sports. On top of all that, there was a whole other layer of the off field issues that needed to be cleaned up. Throw in cancer treatment in there for him on a personal level as well.

All in all, Ron Rivera was asked to essentially do an impossible job in 2020. He passed that test successfully and now people want to pretend like he wasn't inheriting one of the worst rosters in the NFL.

He is 25 games into his tenure and despite facing more obstacles than prior coaches, he is expected to have already fixed what people have been trying to fix unsuccessfully for the better part of 30 years in Washington.

People got severely blinded by a positive 7 game stretch of games last year. Prior to that, the fan base was pretty much in collective agreement that this was a 5 year project.
 
I agree with all of that except the"worst roster" part.

Our defense is solid. Our DL is all first round picks and studs. Cole Holcomb is a stud. Cam balled out last year. Cutting Kerrigan was a huge mistake..we are seeing his leadership skills missing.

Our offense has great pieces. McLaurin, Thomas, Gibson, JD. We have good pieces.

Are we the Bucs or Chiefs? Nope! But, we shouldn't be as bad as Jacksonville or Carolina either. We should be dominating on D and winning with 14 points per game.

These losses are mainly due to poor coaching. Whether it's Scott's terrible play calls, Del Rios obsession with zone D, or Ron's inability to corral them both and get on the same page...our coaching staff is the main issue to me. That ultimately falls on Ron.
 
I think we have more pieces than most realize, but we've got holes in key places that make all the difference.

Turner has been doing 'better' over the last few weeks with his playcalling, but it's still been far from perfect. I think we're seeing the TRUE effect of a capable QB. Heinicke is someone I will root for forever, but he's left a lot on the field, whether it be missed reads, or lack of arm talent preventing a bigger play. Turner's offense has an ability to scheme guys open 'enough,' but it's not working.

I think, to your point Mike, a big shortcoming this season with coaching is the refusal to adjust. It's like there's the mentality "well my scheme gets guys open, i can't help it he can't make the throw." When you find yourself saying that, you need to start scheming differenty within the ability of the players on the field. Stop asking Heinicke to do certain things.

I don't like to refer back to the glory years very often because it's a different game..... but Gibbs was the master of keeping it simple stupid. I can't remember who the interview was with, but they said he ran the same handful of plays out of multiple formations and fronts.. If it worked... keep doing it.

McKissic was torching Denver in the pass game early in the 1st quarter, then it seemed like we removed that from our arsenal for extended periods... It's mind boggling. That has nothing to do with talent.
 
The fact that Scott cannot comprehend what this offense needs to get on track is a huge fail on him as well as Ron. When committed it’s already been shown they can run fairly well, why they cannot parlay that into more points is mind boggling to me.
