I remember when the Giants drafted LT. Even though they were low in the standings until 1984 and the Redskins were on top, #56 always made these games difficult for Washington. He managed to make plays even though he was playing alongside some average talents. And even with top OL we had to watch the guy on every play.
That's how I see Young developing now. In the second half of 3 of the past 4 games he has accounted for a turnover and he has a number of key TFL's as well. Washington doesn't yet have the pieces in place especially at linebacker and safety but Young has beaten the pants off OL he has faced, good ones and average ones alike. Young's play against the 49ers and Trent Williams was especially pleasing to see.
Whatever happens next week with a questionable quarterback situation against an 11-5 team that is mostly healthy and has committed future cap dollars to trying to win in 2020, Washington already has made outstanding progress in a challenged year.
More than doubling the win total from 2019 in a year the coach is recovering from cancer and we are integrating so many younger players into the lineup each week makes this the start of something solid here as we move forward.
What I really like seeing is the 4-2 division record and the fact the team has come back from halftime deficits in a number of games to win or make games close. The players are not giving up but are playing for 60 minutes.
You really couldn't say that about this team since 2015.
