Trade Deadline Thread - Nov 3

I’ve never wanted to lose every game before... but this year I would kill to finish last in the league. Not happening in all likelihood.

Haskins has great trade value
Anderson has trade value
Collins?

Haskins has *some* trade value but we’d be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for him now. I’d take that deal though. I’d think about Anderson. And I’d love to quickly move on from Collins who may have been our worst signing since Haynesworth - but no one is going to pick up that contract. We’re stuck with him.

I see no evidence this team is anywhere near being able to turn it around in a season or two. We have far too many needs and that’s why we desperately need to get more draft picks any way we can.

Why not? Rebuilds happen fast now. Look at Miami. They went real young.

We are also in the midst of the strangest season we've ever experienced. One that will result in salary cap ramifications... We are poised to be top 3 in cap space next offseason. An offseason where teams are going to be FORCED to part ways with key players to make space. Philly is currently $60 mil OVER the cap for 2021 and that's just what's CURRENTLY under contract. Other teams are going to be in the same situation. Quality players are going to be available with hardly any teams in a position to pay them top dollar. Pair that with another quality draft or two and we're talking about a whole different team than the one that went 3-13 a year ago. The argument can be made that the positions of NEED right this minute to make this team completely different are as follows.

QB
WR2 / WR3 (pending Harmon and Sims)
TE
OT
OLB
FS

Why can't we find those positions over the next 2 offseasons? Where else is there a glaring need? Please don't say Collins because as easily as we can argue he's been underachieving, the argument can be made that a center field type FS opens Collins up to do what he does best.... granted the missed tackles are concerning... but i dont think he's a bust FA... yet.

Between the draft and and offseason, we can address quite a bit of those quickly. We could stand to upgrade some other positions like guard, and ILB, but I don't believe those are the difference between us being competitive and not.... just sayin.

Anderson is likely gone this offseason, i believe he's no longer under contract... if we trade / let Kerrigan walk, you can add DE depth to that list.

Ron’s mishandling of Haskins has destroyed any trade value the team may have had. They’ll be lucky to get even a 6th for him now.

IMO Kerrigan should at least finish out the year and then reassess at seasons end. He’s earned that much.

Collins was smashing people last season but looks almost lost to date. Not sure if it could be chalked up to the new defense, or maybe our position coaches are just shit. There could be many variables but he looks lost at times, who knows.

This team will continue embracing the suck until the o-line is addressed. Unless there’s a disgruntled G or T out there that’s young enough to grab for the future they should just keep losing and take the BPA in April. Hell that would certainly explain some of RR’s decisions so far if that’s the plan

MikefromOH ... I appreciate your take on the Kerrigan discussion. And the one thing that wasn't stressed enough is the example he is for the younger players. We probably undervalue that to a great extent. You moved me a little with your passionate argument - kudos

If Kerrigan has the chance to be traded to a super bowl contender I wonder if he'd be interested in taking a shot at it. I think of how Ray Bourque was traded from the Bruins to the AV's in order to chase the Stanley Cup, Kerrigan is not winning a Super Bowl here, and right now even making the playoffs in the near future seems like a stretch (minus the disaster that is the NFC east which could field a 6 game winning team in the playoffs) but I can't fathom how this team with so many holes can be turned around quick enough to be competitive before his playing days are done.

Well, we were arguing from the most extreme positions yesterday, but if they did consider trading him I think one way in which they might show him respect is only considering a trade to a team that is competing for a title, and one that Kerrigan is on board with. It wouldn't be the first time a team did that out of respect for a special player.

I tend to think that his 'value' in a potential trade is nowhere near what our fans think it is, which is usually the case, which is one of the biggest reasons I'm skeptical it will happen.

Yeah i was talking to my Uncle yesterday and he laughed when i said we would be lucky to get a conditional 4th, like that article stated, if we ended up doing it. I love Kerrigan, clearly that's been stated, but another team is not going to give us more than that for a 30+ pass rushing specialist who is in the final year of his contract. MOST teams don't have the luxury we have of 2 high end edge defenders on their rookie contract. They likely would rather use that top half of the draft pick to take their own guy who they have 'control' over for 3 - 5 years depending on the round they take him.

If the Team wants to win, they should go get Ryan Fitzpatrick. The dude is a baller and he was just replaced by Tua. I don’t think that’s where the Team is, but he would be the best QB on this roster.

I would venture to guess that the vast majority of what Rivera is 'saying' in press conferences is coach speak. I don't see him giving up ANY assets to win. Outside of signing an inexpensive player, he's not going to do anything to adjust the future plans, like giving up a player or draft pick. He wants to win 100%, but if it's gonna happen this season, it's gonna happen with the guys currently in the building.

The only thing I could see is if a guy is out there that could be part of the long term plans....

I think it's doubtful the Fins trade Fitz, they have no idea what Tua is going to do and of course there's injury, I think he'll be kept around for insurance. As far as trading assets to win now, stupid idea unless it's someone whose going to be here 3+ years otherwise we should only be trading are aging assets for draft capital.

fwiw

Ngakoue is 25 years old with 42.5 sacks in 69 games.... including 5 this year in 5 starts for Minnesota.

Fitz has been in the league a while, too. He is just a stop gap fix...we already have Smith who can do that if we want it.

we need to keep with the youngster and just suck it up.

anyone want that contract?

maybe the ratbirds?

They way Collins is playing recently I'd wager no one Mike

Something is off with him. I don't know why. Last year, in a much worse defense, he still looked like did when he excelled in New York. This year he's over-running Daniel Jones, and missing tackles in holes. I don't think he's this bad, but something is not firing correctly for him.

Could be scheme, maybe he's nursing an injury that isn't being disclosed since he can still practice everyday

outside of Fuller, nobody in the secondary is playing worth a damn.
