Random Commanders Thoughts

Interesting bit there regarding the crowd noise. Apparently all teams are required to use the same NFL-provided fan noise tape. What we are hearing on TV telecasts is not that - it is produced by the broadcasting company. That accounts for some fan hand-wringing over some crowd noise being different depending on the team. But the crowd noise the players and coaches hear is 100% identical.

the crowd noise is really weird. you'll see a normal tackle but the crowd acts sounds like a fumble happened so I'm waiting for the refs to run in and make a call...but, everyone just goes to the huddle.

Kerrigan now has the team sack record, 8 more sacks and he hits 100 for his career. If he plays well for another 3-4 years he has a chance to get into the top 10 all time.

The fact he can rest and NOT be the focal point for them to block on the line is going to help him get those sacks quickly!

Did you see how he had Wentz by the front and just jumped on him to pull him down? Brutal.

Heck yes. Him coming in fresh could be massive, he was causing major issues for the Eagles just blowing up stuff. Just the constant top quality rotation we have should be huge. Great pass rushers always fresh versus an OL that is out there every snap and cant take a break because we have fresh guys in and out. The next couple of games will be interesting to see if the DL can keep it up, Im excited but too often disappointed after a good game.

Interesting blog post from the Prez. I'm intrigued to read these every week.

The thing that weirdly got me smiling about it was the use of the word 'shittiest'.
You'd assume that if this blog had gone through the rigmarole of a marketing edit they'd have removed any profanity, but this seems refreshingly real and honest.

(Although I'm SURE someone probably had their eyes on it and said... leave in the swearing, it'll make you come across as refreshingly honest!! LOL)

From Wright, to Rivera, and through the team, this does feel like MORE than the new starts we've had before. It's starting to feel to me like a pretty seismic shift on how this team operates, and I approve.

Wish we could just get rid of Dan now.... :(

Yeah, there are a few times the crowd noise makes me think more is going on than what the camera shows, like a flag, a fight, or something else. But it’s just delayed fake noise. Hockey has done a fantastic job with crowd noise. I hope the NFL catches on.

Yeah, they certainly need to figure it out more. Watching baseball, they do a good job of louder crowd noise when there's a hit, a HR, etc. I'm pretty sure I heard booing in one game after a flag and I thought..are they really doing that? :)

“First off, I want to congratulate Ryan Kerrigan for doing an outstanding job,” said Manley, who spent much of June fighting off COVID himself, but is now recovered. “I think once you play a lot of games, automatically, your stats gonna rise up. The defense will probably improve. I just think it was a great thing for him and for the (WFT) because they won, and that’s most important.

“I didn’t feel any kind of way. All records are meant to be broken. I look at Jim Brown and Emmitt Smith. Nobody ever thought Jim Brown’s record was getting broken, but eventually, it did, and it’s just part of the game. No record stands forever. I had the record for about 30-plus years; it’s time to move on.”

If you don't have a subscription, it's still only $1 a month and some of the stuff is really cool.

Manley sounds a little salty, though maybe Im reading it wrong: "I think once you play a lot of games, automatically, your stats gonna rise up."

Though if he is, Ryan actually has played fewer games then Manley.

Potentially a little salty, but maybe not. This may give a little more context.

Ryan Kerrigan is a stand-up guy, Dexter Manley remembered thinking the day they met. Past and present members of the Washington Football Team gathered at an event hosted in Loudoun County the day the two-time Super Bowl champion met the 16th-overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Manley, Washington’s all-time sack leader at the time, knew that Kerrigan was a linebacker at Purdue and that the team was now planning to have him put his hand in the dirt. He pondered, ‘How is that was going to work out?’

“I’m thinking, ‘How he gonna make that transition?,’ but he did,” Manley began. “He’s kinda like Hercules. The guy played maybe eight years straight? Never missed a game.”

as for games, the this site shows Kerrigan with more Redkins games.

He did have 143 total, but 14 were with Tampa Bay

Don’t we also have to take into account the volume of passing situations now compared to then? I mean, 30 passes in a game during Manley’s era was a lot. Today it’s probably below average. More passing downs, more opportunity for sacks.

Throw in the ease at which a holding call is made in today's NFL...

I didn’t take as him being salty. I think he was talking about Kerrigan’s longevity with the team. Maybe he is, but he doesn’t seem like that type of guy. Either way, Manley is giving Kerrigan respect for the record and that’s what matters.

What I found sad is that clearly Manley said Redskins and they edited from the article. To Manley and many other former greats, it’s the Redskins they played for. That will never be taken from them no matter what people edit out.

Manley doesn't seem like the passive-aggressive type. He seems like the kind who would be overt about it if he had a beef.

Yeah, and I imagine Manley does have an emotional response which is to be expected.. Some level of sadness simply because he no longer holds the title.
