Random Commanders Thoughts

Sounding like the NFLPA has negotiated zero preseason games this year. Man, I wish they'd make that a permanent change. I hate the preseason. Just play the games that matter. Yeah, it might be uglier the first few weeks, but who cares - it would be a level playing field for all teams.

While I normally agree, I do like the hall of fame game. It gives you that first little taste of it, and if you are a fan in Canton at the time your team usually plays and that is just a real treat.

I don’t see why they couldn’t keep that one while eliminating preseason otherwise. Probably will never happen because they love the revenue.

that video had me dying! But, that receiver was about 10 yards too deep. 3rd and 8, Kirk will throw for 4 to keep his INTs down!

Julie Donaldson is going to lead the Redskins broadcast team this season.

No preseason games is going to mean a choppy start to the season. Play overall has declined in recent years and the first few weeks are usually full of fumbles, interceptions and poor execution. This year for us fans it’s going to be worse.

The other factor is injuries. I am in the Mitchell camp that a soft training camp and preseason leaves players unprepared for the start of the season and the hitting going with 100% effort.

The NFL is the most violent sport and players have the shortest careers.

I am wondering whether pushing ahead at this pace might not be a mistake.

I disagree for several reasons. Starters essentially don't play in the pre-season anymore, so the 'prep' argument doesn't hold much water for me. Hell - backups don't play that much anymore. We see every season, some teams come out Week 1 guns blazing and look great right out of the gate. Others look awful. I'm not sure it's pre-season games itself that is driving that.

And as far as players not being physically ready, you can't train your way out of ACL tears and bone breaks. Most of the season-ending injuries we see in the NFL are of that variety. There may be more hammy and groin pulls without as much game-time prep, but again, we're mostly not talking about starters.

Soft tissue injuries will be up, i don't think that's a question.

I do however think you can train your way out of SOME ligament damages. Guice's knee injury vs the Pats... not avoidable. During a tackle his cleat planted and knee got torqued. I do believe we may see an increased number of non-contact ligament injuries at the beginning of the season. That used to be the kiss of death when reporting training camp injuries... if you heard 'non contact knee injury' you knew it was bad. I fear we will see more of that with guys going from practice to meaningful games.

I will say I'm actually happy to see a reduced schedule, but I was hoping it would drop to 2. What difference is preseason vs regular season in regards to covid? The risk is the same, unless you want to argue 2 less chances, but that's still a hard sell to me. I want my rookie LT and Guard to get reps with Roullier calling alignments in an evolving game situation. I want Haskins to be able to make adjustments at game speed when they break the huddle pre-snap. There are things that I feel can be good, that will be missed with no preseason games.

uh... i'm not seeing where we have signed ANY of our draft picks... did i miss something?

Looks like you may be spot on, here’s spotrac as of today and seems Moss is signed but none of the picks are

Fans were worried over the contracts of Brian Orakpo and LaVar Arrington and they departed and didn’t live up to deals elsewhere.
To be fair, LaVar had an accident end his career 6 games into his Giants contract, so there's no way to know how that would've played out.

He tore his Achilles before that. His playing with the Gints up to that point wasn’t exactly putting fear in the hearts of opposing teams.

ol Mr Nickels? Yeah, he didn't do much of anything. He had a few good moments with us...that INT against Carolina, and putting out a punch drunk Aikman. I always wondered why he didn't just do the LaVar Leap at least once in the pros.

My point in mentioning these players is some fans here thought their moving on was going to be remembered as a watershed for the team.

In the end they were not franchise cornerstones.

Neither was Kirk Cousins, although the failure to get draft compensation for him in 2016 was surely at that level of FO mistake.

For those of you thinking about attending a game a mask will be mandatory. May as well kiss that huge cap space the team had earmarked goodbye. Hell at this rate the league may even go under

Whatever happened to rookie salary restrictions??? Anyone know if this is reliable?

It is reliable. Rookie scale has gone up each year relative to the cap.
