Statement from Current Owner Dan Snyder

Snyder doesn’t get any credit from the PC crowd because he only conducted the team name review after sponsors threatened his wallet.

That action was pretty much open cause and effect.

In regards to the current allegations Snyder is either oblivious to what is going on at Redskins Park or he thinks all of this is just nonsense about ‘boys being boys’.

Without the WP story Santos and Michael would still be there.

The sad thing is, from all current signs, the NFL (words in official statements to the contrary) doesn't appear willing to do one damn thing about it. I'm seeing 'they'll fine Snyder and that's it'. Great. Fining a billionaire really sends a message about accountability and what the NFL is really all about.

NFL didn’t do anything about Modell either.

He lied and misrepresented his intentions up until he announced the team’s move even keeping league officials in the dark initially.

This is the most backwards and mediocre ownership council in pro sports today but because the product sells the league is almost invulnerable to harm from these idiots.

Great post. What kind of idiots does he think the public is? Santos and Michael have been acting scummy for years, acting like they were in a low rent frat house instead of a professional workplace for years. It should honestly now be even more clear why the Redskins have been such a terrible team. Some organizations have good people under bad management, and those good people can make good things happen in spite of their work environment. It's clear what the situation has been at Redskin Park. They would definitely still be there otherwise.

They are definitely sending a very clear message about what the NFL is all about. Power. If it was a pure money issue, I would think they actually would kind of like Snyder out. Power, though... forcing him could be seen to significantly reduce their power. They will have to wait for more to surface before they can even think about making that move. The other thing at play may be how amenable Richardson was vs Snyder. I have seen every account indicating Snyder NEVER (all caps) wants to sell the team. Hopefully his conviction is as strong there as it was with the name! My fingers are crossed.

Snyder is not the face that the NFL would like to project going forward as an example.

I agree it is in the end about money and power.

The truth is Snyder is not liquid, his outside business ventures for Six Flags, Red Zebra Broadcasting, etc. have ended poorly and he cannot afford to buy out his minority owners in what is turning into an ugly public financial imbroglio.

So, for those with the most money and power in the league, Dan Snyder has become a big liability. He's bad for business.

He is sitting on a team that if properly managed, is top 5 in revenue in the NFL and has rich and varied fan base. A new stadium with proper planning to link to major DC transportation hubs would be a magnet just like Nationals stadium has been, even more so.

DC, Maryland and VA are not going to deal with Snyder as kindly on a new stadium as they would a new owner who could 'reset' the political relationships.

Bruce Allen's claim to fame was he was supposed to understand the nuances of local politics and how to get deals done.

Well, he failed on that account as this team is no closer on the stadium then it is to being successful on the field.

Bottom line, the Redskins went from being a crown jewel franchise to being a problematic one and again that is not good for business.

Owners in the league are not that different ... yes, they are different, but not by a good distance ... take CK ... they systematically blackballed him from rejoining the league based on his kneeling as it wasn't about what is right and wrong ... it was about what was considered turning fans off and ratings. Even ESPN .... owned by Disney, decided to stop airing the games on MNF before the opening kickoff - choosing to no longer air the national anthem in the year it initially happened. Regardless of if you are a fan of his or think he has no skill and was over-rated ... he accomplished more and was less of a health risk than RGIII - but RGIII got back into the league. He was also better than Sanchez and the other options we brought in after Alex Smith and Colt McCoy went down. Many other teams had needs and he wasn't given any calls except for maybe Seattle, but I think that was after the collusion settlement.

If the league could go to the lengths it did to keep him out, you think they could go to big lengths to bring him back.

This wasn't meant to go down the CK rabbit hole as the topic can be polarizing and may distract from the acknowledgment of Danpoleon's clueless horribleness. He is so out of touch, a dead person with mittens could feel more. Wouldn't it be great if John tweaked the Mark Brunell Bang! cartoon and had Snyder sending out his press releases to the tune of missing the broad side of the barn? It seems like he couldn't hit the Atlantic Ocean if he were dropped equal distance between DC and London.

The CK blackballing argument doesn't hold water for one simple reason; players like Eric Reid who have been kneeling almost as long and haven't had a problem keeping a job. Why is it so difficult to believe that a guy who was 2-14 in his last 16 starts with some HORRIBLE numbers (the league figured out his game just like they did Griffins), who not only was kneeling but was going all out with the Castro shirts and PIG socks etc. was enough of an off field distraction not backed up by on field performance to be not worth the time? Why does it have to be systemic blackballing? Couple that with his girlfriend's action toward Baltimore and his ridiculous contract demands to teams like Denver along with that media circus fiasco of a "workout" he moved last second and it seems not only plausible but LIKELY that guy has made himself a pariah as a Free Agent. I get that the narrative goes hand in hand in with all of the BLM stuff etc, but the facts don't come even close to matching that narrative. The guy just wasn't very good, has gotten older now and openly carries a ton of baggage a backup just isn't worth. It's the same reason Tebow isn't in the league any more.

I found this when I was clearing out some space on an old HDD. I vaguely remember making it. Seems fitting.

One of CK’s last starts, he was sacked five times and had four yards passing.

That‘s not a guy who’s necessarily blackballed for a political stance. That’s a guy who was basically a bigger RG3 and whose game has been nullified. I know it’s chic to think of him as this martyr who has been passed-on for lesser QB’s, but that’s really not the case.

ntotoro and CounterTrey - fair points on CK with both individual stats and Eric Reid

The Kap thing is a minefield, depending on who you are talking to. Football fans who watched his career arc on the field understand that this isn't John Elway we're talking about--and quite possibly not even a viable NFL starter. An NFL owner would almost have to be begging to get his team some "attention" from the national media by bringing him in. The daily swarm of reporters, twitter explosions based on every practice throw caught on cell phone video, everyone associated with the organization having to answer "so what do you think about Kap?" every day ... if this was Elway in his prime, sure, maybe you take that on if you don't have your franchise QB on board already. For the Kap we saw on the field his last couple seasons in the league? Maybe not so much.

And tangentially ... maybe I'm naive on this one point, but color me skeptical that this group of 32 billionaires has the collective will or capacity to actively collude on anything, much less something with as much potential nuclear-fallout-inducing as blackballing Colin Kap.

These days, if I'm talking to non-football fans, or at least people who only seem to remember his explosion in that one Super Bowl run season, when they ask what I think about Kap, I take a deep breath, and try to instantly assess the potential damage to the relationship I might have with them before tackling a considered answer. Generally I go with something like, "He certainly has generated some buzz--oh hey, can I get you another glass of that red?"

The problem I have with him is that I think he'd rather be a martyr than an NFL QB. They've given him the chance to come back and every time they do open the door, he does something theatrical and drama-filled. That's where I differ from most. I don't think he's been 'black-balled' because of the kneeling. But no GM/HC wants the kind off drama and distraction that comes with him. The guy can't even get through an NFL tryout without creating a bunch of drama. I don't know if he was ever 'done wrong', but I do know that since then, if he wasn't so fixated on his own 'standing' as some outspoken advocate and victim and movement leader, he'd already have been on an NFL roster.

I agree, Baltimore had offered him a deal, then his Girlfriend came out and publicly slammed Ray Lewis by comparing him and the owner to the characters from Django Unchained... At that point Baltimore pulled the offer. I want to say he's also eluded to the fact that he's not willing to play backup. I BELIEVE I even heard the XFL tried to sign him and he basically said they can't pay him enough because their scales are different than the NFL.

this is why he was benched for Blaine. This is why he isn't a starter in the NFL, and this is why he can't just jump back in the league as one.
