Random Commanders Thoughts

Well now it’s biblical lol. Forgive me if I’m hesitant while questioning WaPo’s integrity on anything. I doubt that rag even knows what a source check is

This is just making me think more it’s a dud. Why would you have to say this stuff if it’s that damaging? Just come out and say it. I get the editing and checking and verifying. But why would you need to hype it if it’s going to be that damaging? I also find it ironic they use the term “biblical” since the Post generally eschews anything Biblical. I guess when it fits your purpose, it’s good to use that.

The only thing I can think of is that there are victims involved, and those victims have attorney representation. I could see how the lines would be restricted about what can and can't be reported on, and if the victims are providing exclusives to the post, then the post can control what they're telling the other reporters, while keeping their actual sources a mystery... this would cause the outside reporters to maintain a level of pause since they cant vet and confirm the sources...

I wonder if there is a lot of substance there, but it's going to fall apart because it can't be 'proven.' That at the 11th hour the story is going to get scaled back by a TON and it's going to end up being a let down. I have no doubt in my mind that something is there, but if it's on the level we've been hearing and it gets reported, but it can't be proven... whoever reports it could be committing career suicide.

That makes sense. I still don’t get the hype though. If you have, report it. If you don’t, then don’t. This hype just makes it seem like there will be a letdown of some sort. Not that any of this will be good. But I think you know what I mean.

I agree... The hype is kind of irritating... Just tweeted this...

I'm over it. Get the story out, get the name changed, the the ball rolling and lets try to move on.

They're not reporting it yet because Snyder is no doubt threatening to destroy lives if they can't back up the details of the story. It's fine that we fans want to know, or at the very least, we want this over with sooner rather than later. But we aren't the ones who will be named in countless lawsuits and risk our personal, work, and financial ruin.

This is the Post and Jeff Bezos, though. He has enough money to make Snyder a pauper and good enough lawyers to scare off Jackie Chiles.

Snyder is in France on his yacht supposedly because as a cancer survivor he was concerned about COVID exposure.

You can believe that or not.

In practical terms Snyder left Rivera holding the bag for all of this.

Snyder could have gotten on a Zoom call to make some of these team change announcements but he is a coward.

I thought it was Tanya Snyder who was the cancer survivor?

I don’t doubt that. We know what a piss ant Snyder is and he would probably sue anyone who said the Redskins sucked last year after winning 3 games. But it would also be irresponsible to report in hearsay without any proof. if they have the proof and have been responsible in their reporting, they have nothing to worry about in the long run. Snyder will fight but if it’s that damning, he has no fight beyond an initial pissing match.

My frustration is just this hype that I feel will be a letdown. I get this Geraldo opening Al Capone’s vault let down coming. Not that this is any of this will be good, because it is not. I’m just done with the hype of this big story.

Good. SinceWashington has all this cap space there should be a lot of talent that hits the streets.

Makes ya wonder why Scherff didnt push harder to lock up a deal before the deadline. He's going to likely lose some money because teams aren't going to be throwing $15m per year at a Guard if they've lost roughly 30% of their cap for a year.

Rivera was right not to give a 29 year old guard a big money contract the team would regret in a couple of years.

We have overrated talent here in the past.

Fans were worried over the contracts of Brian Orakpo and LaVar Arrington and they departed and didn’t live up to deals elsewhere.

One could make a solid argument that Kirk Cousins arrival in Minnesota with a 7-9 record the first year and a wildcard berth the second hasn’t really paid off given the players the Vikings are losing in FA and trades due to cap issues.

In the end it’s not just having players with some talent but getting them at the right price and properly evaluating who is core for the next 3-5 years.

Scherff at 29 given where the Redskins are coming off 3-13 would have been a luxury signing.

Even if Rivera succeeds in resurrecting this franchise by the time this team is ready to contend a 31 or 32 year old guard would probably be a guy the team is looking to release or restructure.

With injuries considered I think we got the best of Brandon from 2015-2018 while he fell off a bit in 2019.

I actually think Scherff is right where he should be. He's considered top 2-3 at his position. That said, the position is not the sexiest one on the field, so spending a ton of money on it isn't as popular. I do however think Scherff is worth a big payday. You mention the next 3-5 years, i don't think it's impossible for Scherff to be effective til he's 33, especially at Guard. Scherff isn't 29 til the day after Christmas. We are unstable at O-line, so it would lead me to believe it will be a unit of focus over the next 2-3 years in the draft. If Charles works out, he's a starting Tackle on a rookie deal. Ismael has a chance to compete at LG, also on a rookie deal. If we draft 2 more guys that can start in 2 years, were playing with a 30 year old Guard on a semi-inflated deal, while the rest of the line is making hardly anything.

If I'm Scherff, I would not have wanted to make my free agent season be 2021. We still don't know how this season is going to go, and it could linger into next year. If the cap drops, Scherff is going to leave decent money on the table because teams are not going to want to pay for him... they won't be in a position to be able to afford it. We are in that position because we have QB, HB, WRx4, EDGE on rookie deals, and if things go right you can also add LT and LG to that same situation. There is a reason we have a lot of cap space... Locking down a top 5 at his position.... i think we should have done it.

I will say i like that Rivera is not handing anyone anything. Players need to earn their spots, but i think this is a bit of a unique situation.

Players will be cheaper next offseason.

The Ravens signed DJ Fluker to take the OG spot held down by Yanda for years.

If you have a legit great player/HOFer than you pay them.

But if have a player who is very good to fine when healthy but has been hurt over the past couple of years then you put on the brakes in this climate.

If Scherff were top 2-3 in the league he would be an all-pro consistently.

I see him in that next tier down of being the pro bowler who has some mileage and major dings that have cost him time.

I am not arguing against keeping the player and giving him more money but he is not as good as Zack Martin has been in Dallas and as far as crazy goes I am not topping Norwell’s deal just because some other fool gave him an outsized contract.

I agree that Scherff isn’t top 2-3, top 10 maybe. I don’t think Scherff wants to be here, but even if he did I think he’s looking for money well beyond what he’s worth.

Fair enough... I think Scherff's injuries have penalized him a fair amount when it comes to All Pro recognition. Hard to consider a guy an All Pro when he's played 19 games out of 36 over the last 2 seasons. I will say he's still top 10 at his position, which is something we don't have a lot of at this point.

I know he's probably holding out to get a big payday, and I don't think we should make him the highest paid Guard in the NFL by any means... I also don't think ANYONE makes him the highest paid Guard in the NFL this coming offseason if the cap in fact does go down $60 million. I just don't think this year is the right time for Scherff to not push HARD to get under contract... even if only for 2 seasons. Maybe he did and Rivera / Smith are the ones that opted to not pursue it... but who knows.

Yes - I think you are spot on when it comes to the injuries. He might BE a top 3 NFL guard, but the injuries not only hurt him from a 'durability' consideration, but I also think he has played hurt quite a bit which resulted in him not looking nearly as top tier as he might when healthy.
