Trent Williams - Still Practicing Rectal Vocalization

TW is playing on a better team - a team with championship aspirations now. He left a steaming pile of dog droppings that had to fire the entire coaching staff, bring in consultants (after 20+ years of the same owner) to figure how to build a productive FO - and start a quasi rebuild.

TW was a pain in the arse. From where I sit, however, he is the one who came out on top. Now, let's see if he can last a full season.

Psst Trent: ACL, ACL, ACL though Achilles would be definite Karma. Still not in the top 3 LT in Redskins History

May not ever be a fan of Dan Synder but Trent was cancer to the team and off the field.

williams won, he got what he wanted. I am not even mad at him because it was allen who made this happen.

I'm with you Ry. But it wasn't Allen alone - it was the whole history of this team since EBW exited stage left and JJG retired (the first time). Accountability always starts at the top. TW was able to act as he did because the culture, the history, the rebellion, the leadership vacuum, the continual dysfunction made it all inevitable. We'll see if RR can right this badly listing ship.

Everything about the Redskins since 1992 screams organizational failure. It's gonna take a while to fix this mess.

Allen bungled the entire situation, that's certainly a fair assessment. That has zero to do with William's passive-aggressive bullshit. He has never cared about anything but Trent, and if last season (you know - when Allen was no longer with the team and they replaced the entire training staff and Williams still sat out) didn't make that clear, nothing ever will.

Good riddance.

All due respect, prior to the head injury...no one...and I mean no one...was saying TW was a cancer. He handled his issue poorly (as did the team)...but let's not veer into historical reconstruction. Prior to the cancer, his main issue was pot....not lockerroom cancer.

Did you think I was implying that because I referenced Williams being all about Williams Al? That's not really it, more a reflection of my belief that this has been all about $$ from the outset. First there is his illogical 'blaming' of his failure to seek a 2nd opinion on his scalp growth on team staff, when any grown adult in America knows something like that would fall well beyond their purview and that any grown man with a bit of sense would seek out expertise if he was worried about a health issue that wasn't football-related. Secondly, there is the fact that we never heard a word about the physician/trainer 'incompetence' until the team refused to give Trent a big contract rewrite he was demanding while he was still under a generous contract just negotiated a few years ago. And finally, there's the fact that he never once got up himself to speak directly about whatever his issues were, preferring to have his agent and other surrogates trash the team for him. He did that despite the team making him one of the highest paid LTs ever (at the time), and despite the team having stood by him with failed drug tests. There's nothing revisionist about any of that. That's a fair summation of what occurred. I think the fact that Rivera, who clearly has a good bead on character and motivation, took about 5 minutes to figure out he didn't want Trent Williams on this roster.

I think most great players have some ego involved, its why they are great in the first place, but its also why sometimes guys let that ego run away with them. Its interesting, I said something similiar when we made promises to haynesworth to get him to sign and then broke those promises and some guys were shocked that hayneworth reacted the way he did. these guys are still people.

I have nothing against TW. Prior to this past year, I don't think I'd ever criticized him for anything. I just feel he let his teammates down big time in 2019 and he did it in the most passive-aggressive manner possible. I had the same problem with the way Kirk Cousins conducted himself. That doesn't mean the team had no hand in bungling either situation - just that I felt both guys were extremely 'insincere' in how they handled their situations.

I can agree with everything you posted Boone.

My outlook remains the same:
- prior to the scalp debacle TW was not a lockerroom issue. He was busted twice for doping. That's what we all focused on.
- Allen is not alone in shouldering responsibility for this. Snyder and the entire FO have mis-managed the franchise for two decades. TW simply slots into a continuum.
- right now, TW, in my mind, comes out on top. If he is injured and never gets to a SB or the fortunes of the teams are reversed then I will be wrong.

Vis another meme: the entire NFL, including the players, is all about money.

I only slightly disagree with your last point. If that were true, no players would ever give their team a hometown discount when re-signing, restructure their contracts to allow the team to pay other players, etc... Williams literally turned his back on and abandoned his teammates and put his team (and a rookie QB) in a terrible situation on the field over money.

Bottom line... so glad he's gone and we got something for him.

Actually, Axe was.

You do bring up the way Haynesworth was "treated" but you ignore that it was the previous regime that made the promises. Once Shanahan came in, the promises made were no longer a factor and Haynesworthless was a cancer instead of simply going to the coach and telling him exactly what he wanted to do, or trade him. He could have bee straight up with Shanahan. Instead he made it clear he did not want to be an NT in the 3-4, had a public melt down, and the situation devolved.

There is absolutely no defending Haynesworth in that situation.

There is validity in opposition to implementing the 3-4 with Haslett and Phillip Daniels playing OLB in the 3-4. I was the only one screaming out against it back then.

Hahaha! Stop Ryan, I'm just kidding about being the only one...we were the most vocal, but we weren't the only ones who knew that transition would set us back.

Correct - about pot. The oher stuff was added once the holdout began.
No...Axe has disliked cry baby pot head for a long time before the whole injury/want more money debacle.
