So why is it the Redskins have only signed four UDFAs?

If you look at the rest of the league, all the other teams have signed quite a few more. It's not like the Redskins are so set at every position that they don't need to check the potential of some players.

I thought there was at least one other signing announced today? They do seem to have the least so far in the league. We were quite active in free agency with backup signings so maybe they like those guys more than available UDFAs? Dunno.

I wonder if it was so minimal because of the overall number of free agents re-signed. I think the total coming into draft was 16.

It's like I told a Cowboys fan on Friday when he asked me why the Redskins weren't picking in the 2nd round. After getting the best player in the draft, it's not fair to the rest of the league to continue to take up all the good players. It's the same thing here. They can't take all the good players or it wouldn't be fair. So they are letting the rest of the league get a chance to see if they can keep up.

Obviously I'm just being facetious, but if anyone can come up with a better explanation, you can try to change my mind.
 
Hell nah this is the beginning of our run starting this year. 3 good drafts, QB in place, speedy wideouts, d-line, coaching, new medical staff, etc

We’re done being the leagues shit show. Going back to consistent playoffs like we had in the 80’s and 90’s. I like that explanation Kel
 
There's a lot that hasn't happened yet. There will be a full set of practice squad players when the season starts.
This is much ado about nothing.

Or maybe Dan Snyder just hates UDFA's. Since he's an evil destructor of the franchise.

We have free'd up a bunch of money, and the Trent trade gave us more. I don't think were done in free agency. There's usually a 2nd wave after the draft that can allow address some things you weren't able to address. I think we likely make a trade or two, possibly for a TE. I think we're still going to add some vet depth along the O-line, likely someone who can start at LT if needed, allowing Charles to EARN the job. I also think Boone made a going point being we added 16 free agents prior to the draft.

Just did a rough count on ESPN of our roster and including rookies we have more than 80 people on the team. Probably setting back a bit looking to see if a surprise cut takes place.
 
No one is comparing Riggo to anybody. The point was that allowances are made for players who get it done on the field.

No, there's been no evidence he was a "druggy," but he slept through meetings ... showed up for practices and games hung over ... slid under a SCOTUS' judge table drunk and passed out.

But, he was Riggo and produced on Sundays so it was all ok.

If the rookie LT sticks, and proves to be a player, perhaps one day people will say that when he was young in college he marched to a different drummer.
 
That's certainly one way of looking at it!

Allowances for performance on the field? Like being an All-Pro? The problem I have with all of this is the slippery slope nature of the argument.
 
Nothing has changed in 30 years here. Teams take chances on guys who have a history of some sort. Some fly straight, some have issues and then learn to fly straight. And others never learn.

It’s the same with every team and hasn’t changed much over time.

I’d also point out that the most successful team in NFL history has taken more chances on players with previous issues than anyone.
 
I'll drop the issue from here on out with a slight nudge that it is pecisely on this basis I really don't take the whole culture/character meme seriously.

I think the Redskins lost out on an opportunity to sign a solid veteran at OG in DJ Fluker.

At 29 he would have been a nice bridge u til some of the younger guys emerge.

Baltimore didn’t take long to snag him.
