I was part of a project a couple years ago called '3 Good Things'. The idea was, for participants to take a minute every night before going to bed and think about 3 good things they'd experienced that day. They could be big things or small, personal or work-related. There is a lot of research out there that building this into one's day has a real effect. People report being happier, less stressed, and more satisfied with their life when they incorporate it into their day.

This is a scary, hard time. I've been mostly alone for almost 6 weeks which is not conducive to positive thoughts, I can assure you - my wife is up north helping take care of my daughter and her 4 month old as my daughter's husband is overseas.

I'm going to do this a little differently. Instead of doing my '3 good things' by myself, I'm going to post them here. If you want to join in - feel free.

Today's 3 good things:

1) I had an unexpected day off today. Since I work in healthcare, I have to be honest... any day I'm far away from potential infection, I'm thankful for that.
2) I took my bike in to be fixed today. I had a broken spoke, and it needed some maintenance work. They just called me and it's already done - pick it up tomorrow so I can do a little stress-relief riding this weekend.
3) I actually found toilet paper at the local grocery. It's the thinnest, lamest, cheapest toilet paper I've ever seen. But it is toilet paper. And trust me - that's a good thing.

Great idea, John...thanks for sharing. Here are 3 Good things for me today:

1.) I had my most profitable day since we opened the business 2 years ago. I made today what we've been averaging per week this year. And while I expected everything to shut down, to date...we are almost double the numbers from last year. I am lucky enough to be in a business that I can practice social distancing fairly easy. I just need to be extremely careful.

2.) I met Marshall Yanda and his wife today while working. I am working with the agent to sell their house. Unbelievably nice, grounded people. Unless I have the time to sit with the celebrity for hours and let them warm up to me before asking any questions, like I did with Cal Ripken a couple years back when I shot a commercial with him, I rarely just jump right in with questions. Tonight when I was in the kitchen with Yanda I asked him about when the Skins made an offer to him 5 years ago before he re-signed with Baltimore. He said it was simple, the Ravens offered more, so it made it easy to stay with them. He was more than happy to talk football. He did mention it was a shit show down in DC for the last 5 years when talked about the Skins. I said easy there big guy, that's my team. He laughed. Really nice guy.

3.) Listening to my wife laugh is one of the greatest pleasures in life! While getting some work done, she is watching Tiger King just laughing at the absurdity. Not sure if I love hearing her laugh more, or listening to her music. Just blessed that I have both.

Great idea. And absolutely part of taking better control of one's outlook on things.
Will have to remember to return this evening.

But for practice, I'll do yesterday.

1. Woke up with a woody.
2. Had it taken care of.
3. Took a nap.

How's that?

Will be more serious later.

1. My wife and kids are with me 24/7 now. Sounds funny or like something I shouldn't want, but I set my life up to be this way. I want them around as much as possible. If they didn't need a proper education, I would want this for us full time forever.

2. My tiller came in the mail the day before and I have been turning up a really big chunk of the back area. Going to try and grow: Corn, green beans, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, pumpkins, tomatoes, spinach, kale, peppers, broccoli, and herbs in the boxes that we used last year for our garden.

3. finally being a leader within my company. The CEO specifically called me out for leadership the other day in his BCP address to the whole company and it felt good. I have always been a leader behind the scenes, but I was finally promoted to the spot of leadership over a whole bunch of youngsters just coming in to the IT world. Feels good to mold them and help them learn as well as be motivated.

I haven't had a garden the past few seasons, but I know a fair amount about vegetable gardening if you have questions - holla.

My 3 good things for the day.

1. We have COVID-19 patients at my hospital. That's a good thing? No. But I'm not yet one of them.
2. Picked up my bike with new chain, fixed spoke, new bottom bracket and cables. It looks new. Gonna get out this weekend and put some miles on it.
3. Food Lion actually had food this evening. I was down to sardines and pickled eggs. So finally restocked enough for a few days anyway.

1.) Ozark has been released.
2.) We got the pool delivered, now I have the pleasure of installing an above ground pool.
3.)I am not sure if she's manipulating me, or it's genuine...but my daughter is expressing more affection.

3.)I am not sure if she's manipulating me, or it's genuine...but my daughter is expressing more affection.

It's probably equal parts of both honestly

1. Woke up in bed with my wife...it's quite the blessing looking back on years of deployments away from her
2. We've been narrowing down houses in Minnesota and I came across one that checks every single box other than not being on a lake. Fingers crossed it works out
3. Forced myself to workout for the 4th day in a row and can honestly say I feel better with each one completed...even though they're light at the moment its still progress

woke up to lightning and rain outside the house

had a stupid dance party with my kids to a bunch of songs I wouldn't be caught dead listening to in public

I can smell bacon and coffee coming from the kitchen. Daddy about to get fed :)

1. My father whose been stuck in the beltway area while traveling for work has finally said fuck it and driving home as my mother has been beyond stressed out
2. I found two gorgeous rib eyes yesterday after work to cook for me and the insignificant other on our usual friday stay at home movie date night. That started long before this mess, were simple.
3. She left to drive to her house this morning, knows I need my Saturday to start drinking early and dont wanna watch HGTV lol.

We do these often...so much joy!
it truly is. I danced ONE time at my wedding and that was it. They tried and I refused. But, I swear I do the dumbest dances for these feral animals just so I can hear the pure laughter from them.

1) I have a great love for music and have played drums for 25 years. I recently decided I wanted to learn the bass guitar and bought one. Being in quarantine is the perfect time to learn. What has brought me more joy than seeing my own progress is seeing my eight year old constantly wanting to play and learn little licks. He truly has a good ear for music and I feel blessed to witness his enthusiasm.

2) Schools are closed in Canada and I am a teacher. I have missed being with my class, but I make my own kids do 3 hours of school work each morning while home. I feel blessed getting to be their teacher for a little while and seeing the pride they feel when they do well.

3) I have a Redskins spring jacket in my closet that my parents bought for me when I was a kid. I placed it in my son's closet silently hoping that one day he would be inspired to wear it. The weather has warmed up a bit in Ontario and we have had a spell of pretty decent days. As we were getting ready to go play outside this morning, my 8 year old says, "Dad, look what I'm going to wear today." Pride.

1. Had dinner from a restaurant tonight, while the consternation was there...it was so good! I love my wife, I hit the jackpot when I married her, but her cooking? I'm not all that great either...I can do well with a handful of foods, but I'm limited. So for a family who usually eats out 2 or 3 times a week, this was the 1st time in 2 weeks.

2. I love seeing any of my children fall asleep on the couch, tonight it was my youngest clutching his paw patroller tight in both hands.

3.Been getting to the point where I need to outsource some the image editing I have to do, especially as we grow. I sent some images away today to have them edited by a respected source many other photographers use to test them. Clients like my final product much better than their's.

My 3 good things tonight:

1) Got back on a bike today. I haven't had carbs in 10 days, it was 86 degrees (!), and it's been since last summer since I rode. I did a measly little 14 miles but decided not to push it on my first outing. It was nice to burn some calories.

2) The board is very active right now. That makes me happy, because we put soooo much work into the rebuild. Thanks guys!

3) My daughter touched my heart today. I bought her a road bike for her birthday and she is taking advantage of my wife being with her to get out and ride (although she's never done a real road bike before the past month). She rode all the way from Arlington to the address of my childhood home (35 miles - she is hard corps like her Dad). First time, to my knowledge, she's ever seen it. The tree in the photo she sent me was there when I was a toddler. Don't know why these pics made me emotional, but they did.

1. CH glad to hear as a fellow drummer you're staying active, to be honest I dont play much anymore even though I have an entire music room setup with bass, acoustic and electric guitars and keys, yet I play none of those. But I'll pick up the sticks today and get some 64ths in on the double bass, great workout.

2. Took a dip in the cement pond, amazing how refreshing it is

3. Found a childhood friend I hadn't talked to in 26 years on fb, spent two hours on the phone yesterday like we never missed a beat

My 3 good things for today.

1) Watched most of season 3 of Ozark last night. We take it for granted, but the quality of entertainment we have at our fingertips today is amazing. It is a real positive distraction during the current time.

2) Heard from my best friend and my sister today which made my day.

3) I'm continuing to do keto and am down about 10 lbs. Another 20-25 lbs to go to hit my ideal weight.

1. Made a simple dinner of tuna mac & cheese with the family and the whole family enjoyed it together
2. Have a St Bernard that thinks he's a lap dog so spent most of the day relaxing & petting him
3. The light workouts are still going good and making me feel better. Having to utilize a belt with all my 36" jeans now

I love this thread. Positivity is exactly what we need right now.

1. I've been binge watching The Goldbergs. I've realized my mom is Beverly Goldberg, and I love her for it.
2. Me and roommate A have finally convinced roommate B to take this virus seriously, and he's begun following our ridiculous protocol when he comes home since he's the only one still working.
3. My ex wife apologized. In the 20 years we were together she never did that. It mean a helluva lot.

3 good things on Sunday.

1. Put 25lbs of weights in my backpack, along with tent and sleeping bag--totalled probably 30 lb. Did a 7.5 mile hike at Pocahontas State Park. Sore but feeling good after.

2. Found toilet paper at Kroger.

3. Wife and I started watching this really weird show on Netflix called Tiger King. It's like a bad car wreck--you can't stop watching.
