I'll echo thoughts already said here, I don't believe all that TW is spewing.
How can you sit on something like that for 6 years?!
Maybe it's just me, but I know when something is wrong with me. I feel it. I may not know what it is, but I know.
Recently I had a bad knee. It was sore all the time and I started to struggle walking long distances. I'd had a fall and knocked it quite badly.
I limped to the Docs and they sent me for an MRI. At which point the Doc said there was nothing wrong bar a small meniscus tear that if I wanted to could be cleaned up. This did not sound right at all to me because of the location and type of pain. Didn't seem in the right place.
Using TW logic I'd have walked away and not worried about it for 6 years, but I didn't. I persevered with the Doctors, eventually finding that they'd MRI'd the wrong knee and that in actual fact it was a torn ligament. In the meantime I'd also sought out advice from my sports therapist brother who said he thought is was muscular or ligament and got me doing Aqua Aerobics to rehab and strengthen it.
My point here is that if I'd had something growing on my head, which I could feel enough 6 years ago that it made me seek medical advice, surely I'd still be feeling it for 6 years. Mine was just a knee, but it that had been my head I'd have been DOUBLY driven to get to the bottom of what was wrong. Not sit on it for 6 years.
You could say that maybe he didn't feel it, or worry about it, but if he was worried enough to seek advice 6 years ago and they did nothing... then what on earth could have changed.
This does reek to me of someone who held out for money reasons. Then saw the swing in public opinion and has though "Know what... If I play the 'I almost DIED card that will curry some sympathy, and I know the Skins fans hate Bruce so I'll throw him under the bus for good measure!"
Just to be fair though...
The Redskins got to accept some blame too for how they've handled all this. This feels like the kind of situation that could ONLY happen in Washington. Whether it's fair or not the mud is sticking and if Snyder wants to clean up this team he's GOT TO make big changes. As much as people wanted Gruden gone perhaps, we all know he's not the problem here. We're just spinning our wheels as a franchise, being dragged into the mud by an anchor initialed BA.
In many aspects I kind of like what Callahan is doing as interim coach... but I know it's just whistling in the wind. It's a futile exercise while we're a dumpster fire organisation at the top. the rumours swirling this week are crazy. People reporting that teams didn't trade with us out of spite, or because it was Bruce. One GM on another team saying dealing with us wasn't like 'dealing with a normal team'. Coaches won't be enticed to be here under this regime, not the good ones anyway. Some of this could be bullshit. It all could be bullshit.
But we all know that often where there's smoke there's fire and this mud is flying at us from all angles and not an isolated source.
I haven't missed a Redskin game this year, and like Ax I try and stay positive and optimistic about every week. But man, this is easily the hardest season I feel I've ever tried to keep that mood afloat through.
I really really want big changes this offseason. We NEED them badly.
