Random Commanders Thoughts

This is definitely something to question the FO about. No team has had so many medical mishaps in the league before. And it's year after year. A third party review of the medical staff--both off and onsite--is what any other organization would have done.
Both Keim and Finlay, with BMitch sitting there nodding his head in affirmation, reported months ago that this is exactly what was done. The league was involved as well.

Zero issues found.

Next?

As fansince and notoro have so eloquently stated......BS.

Sounds like a story concocted to keep him off the NFI list. Keeping him from his money.

All Trent has to do is spend 5 minutes on social media and he knows there are enough fans pissed at the organization, that will lap up every once of "poor me" he can throw up, in hopes it will influence the team into giving him what he wants.

Money.

2 more snippets from Finlay on twitter. 6 hrs ago.

1. "Trent Williams also says that it's crazy for him to be playing without guaranteed money on his deal."

2. "Trent Williams says watching Alex Smith go down last year and “we haven't had the best history here with medical stuff” made an impact on his desire for more guaranteed money."

It's about the money. Always has been.

Elementary, my dear Watson.

Williams made it clear that his distrust with the #Redskins is directed at the medical staff and Bruce Allen.

Why not Dan Snyder? In part because Snyder helped him find the doctor in Chicago that helped save Trent's life.

I said it several months ago what the big issue was here. It's really no secret among many of us who cover the team. https://t.co/hhuTgqWe5e

To cut to the chase the issue going on with Trent Williams and several other players I have spoken to over the past few years is the distrust with the #Redskins team doctors and lack of communication. Perhaps Williams status on the team gives him a platform to bring it to light?

Distrust? That's it? Either they're incompetent or not. Either they should be charged with malpractice or not. It's not that I think William's is making this up. If something unsafe happened, or malpractice, then he has a responsibility to go after these medical staff persons. According to his doctor, Williams was nearing a threshold at which the risk of life loss increased by orders of magnitude. Sounds like a "big" life moment to me. Why is there no legal action?

as an aside, I never heard any negatives about Dr Andrews. he has been a doctor to all manner of professional athletes as a "go to" guy. Yes....not his area of specialty. But asking that question (what abt doc andrews) already changes the dynamic since it nnarrows the focus from team doctors to some team doctors. who is Trent pointing the finger at?

if he really believes something terribly wrong happened he needs to say and do more than hold an 18 minute presser. perhaps something more is in the works.

Sad that nobody on Redskins checked on Trent Williams in hospital. When I suffered a heart attack at the park in 2002, the team trainer and GM stopped to see me.

Actually, the culture is great.

What other team wouldn't visit their best player during a 14 day cancer scare?

So the cancer that Williams had is not only rare, but only 10% of DFSB tumors occur on the head. It would have required a biopsy to diagnosis. The tumor grows downward like roots on a tree - it is not easy to recognize, diagnose, or differentiate from other common skin conditions according to what I've read. The relative good news is, it does not typically 'travel' (ie... metastasize to other body areas). When it does (less than 4% of the time, it usually moves to the lungs). The bad news is that it can be difficult to completely remove due to it's 'rootlike' growth. They typically excise a large area of tissue (in his case, sub-q scalp tissue), much more than just the tumor itself, which probably accounts for his '30% of my scalp' comment and his problems wearing a helmet. He almost certainly got chemo and radiation in addition to them removing the growth. Despite not being a commonly metastasized cancer, it is serious since it is difficult to eradicate and can recur commonly. So Trent has definitely been through something. Obviously catching any cancer early, especially one that grows like this one does and isn't encapsulated like a cyst, is ideal. On the plus side it is a slow-growing cancer, but going 5 or 6 years with this type of tumor growing slowly is bad primarily because it typically grows 'downward' and completely excising it surgically to prevent recurrence becomes more difficult.

None of that has anything to do with what was said to him by medical staff or what recommendations he received. Just sharing a little net research (primarily from the NIH website).

I'll give you props for the joke. made me laugh. Had you stopped at "...culture is great" It would have been perfect. the issue with the follow-on sentence is we don't know what knowledge was shared after the surgery. I was listening to this very same analysis on the radio today and it did have an impact. and then it hit me that he has been in touch with Moses and Petersen, i.e., folks he trusted. how come they didn't visit? only reason I can think of is they didn't know. Obviously, I don't know ground truth. All I can do is understand that A implies B doesn't equate to B implies A. For example, 'If someone doesn't care enough, they won't visit a team-mate in the hospital" does not imply "Person X didn't visit a team-mate in the hospital, therefore person X didn't care enough"

Ty Boone. I appreciate the education.

FWIW, he said he didn't do chemo because the doctors said he'd only have 15 years to live if he had.

This is turning into another "As the Redskins World Turns".

Trent. Happy you beat this thing. Wish you a good, long life.

Now, what are you going to do about this? I get the sensitivities of going after someone and their livelihood. If Snyder assisted, he was brought into it late in the game. Why? Peel away the layers and get down to what really happened.

If this is true, and it's not the first time I heard the part about Snyder helping him find a doctor, then maybe Trent can all do us a favor. Maybe he can have a private meeting with Snyder to tell him how bad Allen is. We know how Snyder likes his superstars and Williams has been the longest superstar on this team. Perhaps he can have a 1-on-1 with Snyder, away from Allen, to give him the low down. We have all said that someone has to get to Snyder without Allen being present. If anything good can come from this mess, maybe this is it.

Notice how Pothead Crybaby goes after Allen, an all too easy target, and not the guy who signs the paychecks.
Of course he wants Snyder to bow to public criticism and force Allen to guarantee his money.
Which would instantly heal all wounds, and Pothead would be back on the field after the bye week.

Money-money-money-money...……..Money!

And, contrary to Pothead's Poor Poor Pitiful Me presser BS, Keim claims a source told him our athletic trainer was with Pothead for a week in Chicago. And that multiple other team officials called, but their calls weren't taken, or returned.

TW's credibility is no better than Allen's.

Some of what Williams has said makes no medical sense. I'd include this as one of them.

I'll echo thoughts already said here, I don't believe all that TW is spewing.

How can you sit on something like that for 6 years?!

Maybe it's just me, but I know when something is wrong with me. I feel it. I may not know what it is, but I know.

Recently I had a bad knee. It was sore all the time and I started to struggle walking long distances. I'd had a fall and knocked it quite badly.
I limped to the Docs and they sent me for an MRI. At which point the Doc said there was nothing wrong bar a small meniscus tear that if I wanted to could be cleaned up. This did not sound right at all to me because of the location and type of pain. Didn't seem in the right place.

Using TW logic I'd have walked away and not worried about it for 6 years, but I didn't. I persevered with the Doctors, eventually finding that they'd MRI'd the wrong knee and that in actual fact it was a torn ligament. In the meantime I'd also sought out advice from my sports therapist brother who said he thought is was muscular or ligament and got me doing Aqua Aerobics to rehab and strengthen it.

My point here is that if I'd had something growing on my head, which I could feel enough 6 years ago that it made me seek medical advice, surely I'd still be feeling it for 6 years. Mine was just a knee, but it that had been my head I'd have been DOUBLY driven to get to the bottom of what was wrong. Not sit on it for 6 years.

You could say that maybe he didn't feel it, or worry about it, but if he was worried enough to seek advice 6 years ago and they did nothing... then what on earth could have changed.

This does reek to me of someone who held out for money reasons. Then saw the swing in public opinion and has though "Know what... If I play the 'I almost DIED card that will curry some sympathy, and I know the Skins fans hate Bruce so I'll throw him under the bus for good measure!"

Just to be fair though...

The Redskins got to accept some blame too for how they've handled all this. This feels like the kind of situation that could ONLY happen in Washington. Whether it's fair or not the mud is sticking and if Snyder wants to clean up this team he's GOT TO make big changes. As much as people wanted Gruden gone perhaps, we all know he's not the problem here. We're just spinning our wheels as a franchise, being dragged into the mud by an anchor initialed BA.

In many aspects I kind of like what Callahan is doing as interim coach... but I know it's just whistling in the wind. It's a futile exercise while we're a dumpster fire organisation at the top. the rumours swirling this week are crazy. People reporting that teams didn't trade with us out of spite, or because it was Bruce. One GM on another team saying dealing with us wasn't like 'dealing with a normal team'. Coaches won't be enticed to be here under this regime, not the good ones anyway. Some of this could be bullshit. It all could be bullshit.

But we all know that often where there's smoke there's fire and this mud is flying at us from all angles and not an isolated source.

I haven't missed a Redskin game this year, and like Ax I try and stay positive and optimistic about every week. But man, this is easily the hardest season I feel I've ever tried to keep that mood afloat through.

I really really want big changes this offseason. We NEED them badly.

Don't discount the possibility that the FO personnel from some of these possible trade destinations aren't playing to anger they read about in the media as well. They want to look good to their fanbase. Easy to pass the buck, to a sittin' duck.

And, hang in there Knight. 9-7 is possible, until it ain't. :thewave:

Yeah, you gotta take everything reported with a pinch of salt. Sometimes it feels like there's so much of it flying around that at least some of it has to bear a grain of truth!

and I'm right there with you Ax! We're going 9-7 no doubt! LOL :thewave:

I'm actually quite excited to see what Haskins brings this week in what should be his first fully prepped start. Be nice if we could see some more weapons back for him to use and I'm not expecting miracles. But, for me at least, I'm actually quite excited!!!

I agree, it's a tact he's using for money...but maybe, just maybe it will help Snyder realize he needs to dump ole Brucey!
