Random Commanders Thoughts

Dolphins...they chose Rosen over him. Bengals need to move on from Dalton, they could have chosen him. The Jags, but they chose Foles.

While not all the decisions were made during the draft, as many as 5 teams were in need of QB. Not one of them decided to stay put and draft Haskins.

I'd bet the house on it.

Meanwhile, there were so many who thought the Cardinals were throwing away equity when they decided to draft Kyler Murray. They are sitting in a far better place with him behind center than Josh Rosen. You think the Cardinals are thinking it's meaningless noise about this time. The precedent has been set, if you draft a QB in the 1st round one year, and the following year you have a chance to draft a better one...pull the trigger, cut bait, or whatever else you want to call it, but make the move to make the team better...don't rely on what could be.

Like you and many others said when RG3 was drafted, it doesn't matter how much you spend for a franchise QB...they are priceless. So that 15 pick from last year is not worth that much if we have a chance at one of the 2 QB's who will be better in the NFL than Haskins ever will.

You're not even making sense Brian :)

Murray can at least be given some early assessment - because HE'S PLAYING! I'd be the last one betting the farm that Murray is a long-term NFL star after a handful of starts. Haskins hasn't been named a starter for even a single game, gotten the game prep, and played a game. He got thrown in for a handful of minutes with no prep. That's just a fact. You use the 'they grabbed Rosen and Foles - that's a referendum on Haskins talent? How's that working out? That's supposed to be evidence that the Redskins made a mistake on Haskins?

I love you. You were right about Griffin not having the physicality to hold up with the game he possessed. I have given you credit for that and good for you in seeing what few others did. Doesn't make you Nostradamus brother. Murray is not I don't know if Haskins is capable of being a great NFL QB. But I do know that he's a big, physical, strong-armed QB who showed great accuracy in his single year as a college starter. He certainly had the athletic potential to be a first round draft pick. As to some of the statements you and Al have made - that Haskins is inaccurate, lacks the intellect or QB instincts to succeed at this level, whatever - I'm not buying it.

I think he deserves a chance to actually play before all you internet talent experts write him off.

Murray threw for 104 yards today.

So, let's not put a crown on his head at this point.

To me he looked like a ‘forced' pick at #1 overall.

Personally I would have gone away from QB at #1 overall because Murray, Jones and Haskins all have minuses as well as pluses while Tua and Herbert look to be more sure bets in 2020.

Kingsbury to me is no slam dunk in Arizona and he like Spurrier could be a short-timer in the NFL game.

He's better than Haskins.

3. Haskins is a bust. He may have a strong arm but has no natural feel for the NFL game and how the qb plays in an NFL system. Because this is embarrassing to the organization they do not want to put Haskins out there in extended time to show that.

I've heard this. My first question would be, given the team's history of recent success, and that they apparently think Case Keenum is a stalwart starting QB in this league, should we be respecting any evaluation they make?

I have no problem honestly assessing any draft pick. For example, I think it's a fair question as to whether the Redskins blew a high pick (and an additional 2nd rounder) on Montez Sweat. Maybe he'll be a 'Matt Ionnaidis type' who eventually develops into a competent (if under-performing) player. But he could well be a bust.

But anyone who pronounces Haskins a 'bust' is either a fool, or a terrible coach. I haven't heard anyone say it - other than overblown mental midgets in the DC sports media who actually believe they know what they are looking at it and are competent to make evaluations.

This is why no worthwhile talents want to come to this team. The ridiculous scrutiny, rumor machine, and nastiness directed at players is the only thing we excel at.

He's better than Haskins.

Remains to be seen.

***Btw - I do recognize if someone else were going after another member as hard as I am you, it'd probably get my attention. So I'll dial it back. I'm not mad in any way at anyone. But here's my primary point...

Of the 18,000 reasons to deplore, criticize, and generally hate what this franchise has become, I'm pretty sure Dwayne Haskins is not yet one of them. Let's get off his back until he has a reason for us to hate and blame him too.

I don't think that's an unreasonable line of thinking.

Look, the big physical, strong arm QB myth has been shattered. Drew Brees and Russel Wilson, and now Patrick Mahomes have both proven success with smaller stature.

In today's NFL if you cannot feel the pressure, it doesn't matter how big you are...you're going down. Smaller, quicker guys who are able to create room for themselves, and extend plays are having more success than the big strong armed guys not named Tom Brady. Now if you're bigger, have the strong arm, and can extend plays like the smaller guys like Lamar Jackson, then even better.

I don't think Kyler Murray is going to be a long term NFL great. But you better believe the Cardinals are a MUCH better team with him than they were with Rosen, and there I no arguing that. It was a move that was risky, and we're see dividends for them already. They're not winning a SB this year, but they are not the AWFUL team they were just a year ago. Murray with only 104 yards today, is a main factor.

Bring Tua in here to run this offense with just a little help at the RB position, we'll win more with him that Haskins.

But that's my point.

The Haskins fiasco is just another example of mismanagement.

You don't take a qb at #15 and then start two journeymen passers in Keenum and McCoy because you need to ‘win now' 😆😆😆😆

For me, you take a qb high you all but admit you are rebuilding or at least retooling.

And if Snyder and Allen knew they were going to draft Haskins or a Jones back in Jan/Feb then you move on from Jay Gruden.

Instead we see personnel moves made at odds with the goals of the head coach and his staff.

Personally I would have fired Gruden in January.

That 6-3 record with Smith was a mirage of 3 point wins, other teams missed field goals and Smith throwing for 175 yards in these contests for an offense that seemed limited.

I don't take offense to it, it's not just Griffin that I've been right about. You just want to minimize my predictions to that one.

It's ok, wear the B&G colored glasses for our wasted #15 pick...but he's never going to be what you want him to be. He will NEVER succeed in the NFL.

No argument. I said even before the season began, made no sense to have a lame duck coach with a rookie high draft pick QB. None.

Oh for God's sake - maybe we need to start a separate forum for you?

At this point what you can't do is give the Redskins the benefit of the doubt.

They can SAY what they want but what I SEE is a train wreck.

The 9-0 result today is so much better than what I expected - that's how low the expectations for this team have become.

Again, we are starting Case Keenum and pretending we are trying to have a season as opposed to admitting this needs to be in tear down mode heading into 2020.

Redskins have a lot of competition for those picks.

Miami, Cincinnati, NY Jets, Atlanta.

Other teams with 2 wins like the Giants, Bucs, Broncos, etc that might not win too many more games.

I could see the Redskins finishing 2-14 and having the #5 pick, too late for Tua and Herbert.

I've heard this. My first question would be, given the team's history of recent success...

What success? You keep talking about how successful our drafts have been, but we are not a good team, so how can you call them a success?

Haskins = Not a success. You guys think a possible diamond in the rough. Remains to be seen.
Da'Ron Payne = We heard all about the Alabama boys...our run defense remains one of the worst in the NFL. avg at best, so far.
Jonatahn Allen = Absolute success.
Montez Sweat = We've seen nothing at this point to call him a success.

Derrius Guice = If you even think about calling him a success I swear I will laugh at you!
Ryan Anderson = Doubtful he'll even be on the team next year unless they finally switch to 4-3 and make him Weakside OLB

That is the 1st and 2nd round of the last 3 years. Of the 6, Allen and Payne will be the only ones on this team in 4 years.

I will add the probably successful players after those rounds:

Cole Holcomb, if he develops his ability to cover the pass, which I believe he can, kid can be a star.
Jimmy Moreland should get better, he's young and shows great potential. Can be solid.
For a 5th round pick Settle is almost as solid as Da'Ron Payne.
Trey Quinn? I like him, but he has not shown to be a successful pick so far.

Other than these players, who has been the success you speak of? Fabian Moreau? Geron Christian? Jeremy Sprinkle? Samaje Perine? Troy Apke? Greg Stroman? Montae Nicholson?

I mean, I hear so many talk about how great the last 3 years of drafts have been, how successful they are? Here we sit at 1-6 with allllllll that talent.

Bring Tua in here to run this offense with just a little help at the RB position, we'll win more with him that Haskins.

The same Tua that just had ankle surgery today? Which was a different ankle than what he hurt last year. So let's throw away a guy we haven't seen play for a guy with injuries in back to back years in college. I guess that would be the most Redskins thing to do. Draft a guy with a history of injuries to replace a guy they just took.

You might be right...and I wouldn't put it past this team to win 4-6 games at the end of the year. But, the hypothetical I keep mentioning is if we have a shot at Tua, we take it and don't look back.

Keenum and McCoy as the qbs form the 29th or 30th pair in the league.

That's where we are in the standings.

If you want to be 10-6 or 11-5 you need to have a top 15 quarterback, pushing top 10.

We don't have that player.

Tua a franchise QB?

Kinda like Famous Jameis, right?

Jameis has been a franchise QB, 5 years now he has been the starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That might not be saying much...but it's better than what we've had here. Kid hasn't lived up to the billing I thought he could, but to start for the same team for 6 seasons is more than most teams have had in the same time span, especially this team.

Arians will probably give up on him after this season, but I'd rather have him than Dwayne Haskins!

Oh for God's sake - maybe we need to start a separate forum for you?

Well, I think I've gotten the record correct every year over the course of the past 5 years within 1 game. You have been telling us we're a contender, every single off-season.

Those FSU shades must have Coke bottle bottom lenses........
