So Win - goes without saying that I love ya. But to be fair, if it's a 'very big IF' - why talk about it as if it conceivably happened? Because there's no way they offered some kind of megadeal for a 31 year old holdout. No way in hell.

I'll grant you this. If the Redskin got a big offer for TW and didn't accept it (you can define 'big offer' any way you want - for me, it would be a first round pick, but certainly a first round pick and more would equate to a 'big offer') - Bruce Allen is a moron.

But I'm not even sure I believe the rumor about the Patriots offering their 1st rounder for him. Could be true. But they deny it, so quite possible it's just another made-up media piece of BS to make Skins fans angrier at their front office...

A straight up swap of Tunsil and Williams at this point in his career would be a win for the Redskins. I won't post that anywhere but here, because I'll get lynched. But I believe it's true.

Win..I doubt two ones and a 2 were ever offered for TW. Heck, I doubt a one was offered.

So buckle up and enjoy a 6-10 season!

My view... Honestly I'd wait TW out at this point. If we'd been given a Godfather offer for him we'd have taken it, which says to me that no offer manifested.

Trent plays at one of the most important positions in football, and the Redskins are testament to the fact that as the season wears on, injuries happen.

So Trent sits on his couch and misses his game checks. We wait him out. He's not here, so it's already done... it's not going to get worse than it is. Even if we get injuries, we don't have him anyway... can't miss what we don't have.
Maybe he starts to realize the millions he's missing, maybe he comes back in a few weeks.
Or maybe a few weeks into the season another team loses a Tackle. Maybe it's later into the season and it's a playoff team, hoping for a deep run or Superbowl glory.
Skins have a Tackle sitting on the shelf wanting to be traded, suddenly we have all the leverage to push for a Godfather deal.

I'd rather we wait and extract proper value for him, than jump now just because. Team is set, we roll with what we have. If he comes back then great... if not then we just trade him when the market for him is highest. Which at the moment it's not.

Considering all we have to go on is at this point is media hearsay I could honestly see the texans offering 1st for Trent, we differ there and that's okay. That's where the highlighted 'if' comes in, I never CNN'd it as fact at all. Pretty much everything is conjecture at this point regarding the skins &Trent. From Bruce stating TW will end the holdout to play with us to D.Hall stating zero chance.

If it's a matter of wording a disclaimer for such posts that I need to work on let me know, but I never intended to have what I stated taken as fact.

Deal should have been made after Penn signed and we could bridge to 2020.

We don't know what teams other than NE offered for Williams so it is difficult to determine if his value would be higher next February.

If he sits out the season and then comes back for what would be his age 32 season what great haul are we going to get in a trade?

The concern here is the late #1 NE offered could become a mid to late #2 by that time.

If Williams was 26 years old like Clowney and Tunsil things may be different.

I think it's premature stating the team is mishandling things (not that anyone is doing that - yet). Quite possible he either gets traded in the next few weeks, or decides he really doesn't want to forego multiple $900,000 game checks repeatedly and reports. If we simply bench him and get nothing for him in 2019, I will be screaming loudly about the incompetence of the FO too.

Dude...you aren't being moderated :) I'm simply pointing out that there are ZERO facts here in terms of what was and wasn't offered. I get the skepticism regarding the front office.

You can argue whatever you want.

I'm arguing back - like every member is free to do :)

If the texans offered two 1sts and a 2nd for the phins LT and a wr I see no reason why they woudn't have offered at least a 1st for TW. All good if we differ opines, but a 1st for TW to a desperate LT needy team with a fill in GM to boot is very plausible . Whether they did or not only the teams know.

You be crazy thinking 6-10, unless Jay is calling the in-game plays. We're wildcarding at 10-6, its happening whether you bastages believe it or not

Saw something insane on ESPN this morning concerning the Texans not talking to Tunsil's agent or Tunsil about an extension before the trade. This gives Tunsil some serious leverage next off-season and I would think overtures will be made about him potentially replacing Trent next year.

I salute your optimism. We differ - I don't see any improvement in the offense. A fine defense will be wasted - we'll be lucky to hit 6-10!

I think our two biggest upcoming priorities will be a) resigning Scherff and b) using one of our top two picks in next year's draft to find our next LT. I would love to get a first rounder (any first rounder) for Trent, because that would allow us to get our LT and still have a pick to use or use to move down should someone unexpectedly fall in the draft.

At this point, our best bet to trade TW is probably going to be if a team loses their starter to injury. I really hope this doesn't drag into the next offseason. Needs to be resolved one way or the other sooner rather than later.

Al - I'm just curious on your take on the offense...

If we break it down a bit, here's how I see it (and I'll try and err on the side of caution in assessments):

OL - Worse. But not as big a difference as most would argue.

QB - Worse. I don't really believe Keenum will be worse than Smith (who really looked pedestrian and unimpressive in most of his time last year) but I'll go with this rating because most fans would say we've downgraded. Smith is absolutely a superior QB to Keenum. But his play in 2018 was pretty average, even for a game managing QB.

WR - Improved. With the obvious caveat of a lot of youngsters who can't yet be assessed, how can we not be improved here? Richardson is healthy. Quinn will be in there who we didn't have the entire season. Doctson has been moved on from. McLaurin is a potential future star. Harmon and Sims are talented. I know. We don't know until we know. But...

RB - Improved. AP returns. Chris Thompson looks and feels great. We are adding a healthy Guice who is probably a top 2 RB from 2 drafts ago. Removed Perine from the backfield. Cannot be argued imho - we are improved in the backfield.

TE - Improved. Concussion aside, Reed is reportedly healthy for the first time in a couple seasons. For as long as he's available, he will be a major player. We still have Davis. And Sprinkle is showing some sparks and will get more balls. We may keep a capable youngster on the PS so if Reed does go down, there's some help to be had.

In summary, I think the QB production is going to be similar to last year or better. I really don't know how anyone could predict it will be worse since we had one of the most anemic passing attacks in the league last year. I think our RB and WR groups are significantly better going into this season.

None of this means we'll win a bunch of games. Every season is it's own microcosm and there's no way to predict a won-loss record based on just team talent. But I think we will be pleasantly surprised, especially given the very low expectations, on the offensive side of the ball. I'm really curious why folks think we'll be worse than we were in 2018?
