Bruce Allen is the most reviled front office guy in the league.

When I read articles from insiders that say Snyder was unaware of fans' level of anger and disappointment, I find that very hard to believe.

When fans voiced displeasure over the potential hire of Jim Fassel the team moved away from him quick enough in 2009.

When fans were all over social media about the team botching the Cousins fiasco Snyder and Allen moved as quickly as possible to make the Alex Smith trade.

Rather than being confident and self-assured Snyder and Allen through their actions actually show how insecure they are.

They don't know where they are going they just don't want to admit it.

Article today about how Grudens job is probably safe for next year, how he was "competitive" early this year and with an overall losing record and that the SKins were doing alright before the injuries in a sucky NFC East.

I'm wonder, does JP mean the start of THIS year, when the Oline still blew, we had no receivers that could run routes much less be productive and a running game that was only saved by the addition of a last minute addition from the trash heap? And it took FIVE YEARS to get to that point?

I wonder what color the sky is in J P Finley's world?

The worst part of this whole story is the unwritten part that says BA isn't going anywhere either.

It's become normal for the Redskins. We have collectively been beaten down over 25 years that stringing together a 6-3 start despite having limited talent and winning games by 3 points translates into the perception of great progress.

The truth as we know it is a somewhat different story.

In that early start the Redskins dysfunctional passing game was on display with Alex Smith throwing one touchdown a week and 175 yards to a motley group of receivers who are bottom five in the NFL.

What kept this team competitive was a young defensive front that stopped the run and applied pressure while ‘out of the blue' Lazarus aka Adrian Peterson donned the cape to rush for 100 yards despite uneven blocking and Smith's tepid production.

That young defense can hopefully come back with some additions at LB and S to perform for 16 games in 2019.

But that doesn't mean it should be under Gruden.

The passing game needs to be completely rebuilt both at qb and wide receiver. The team including Gruden consistently overrated what Doctson, Crowder and guys like Richardson would deliver.

Up front Gruden chose to go with Lauvao despite the fact a number of veterans were available in free agency. Our depth consisted of 3 natural centers.

In addition both Scherff and Moses regressed. Before they were injured the line wasn't blowing anyone away. Peterson was getting a lot of those yards breaking tackles on his own.

At running back Gruden for the second year brought Kelley, Perine, etc back and neither produced AGAIN.

Kelley got hurt again. Perine was inactive for all but a couple of games.

When Guice went down in the preseason the picture was bleak and if not for the 33 year old Peterson coming in on a cloud this team would have been screwed from Day 1.

This was the side of the ball that is Gruden's area of expertise.

Outside of Peterson, healthy or not this unit looked like crap for most of the season.

The other telling aspect of that 6-3 start were wins over sub .500 quality teams and losses to New Orleans, Indy and Houston, all playoff bound. Those first two losses were double digit where the Redskins were really never a challenger to win.

The 20-13 and 16-3 wins over the Giants and Bucs showed this team's limitations.

The reaction of Norman and Swearinger after that ugly 16-3 win in Tampa saying they wanted to play all their games on the road showed the level of dysfunction on the squad.

Nobody watching that game would have believed afterward players would be beating their chests about their performance.

Gruden needs to take reasonable responsibility for the actions of his players.

This team per comments by Jonathan Allen and Swearinger wasn't properly preparing for games but was then celebrating after close ugly wins as if they were champions and had ‘arrived'.

THAT is the culture that needs to change and Gruden is not strong enough in the building to effectuate those changes.

Allen has to go first.

But my guess is a ‘real' front office exec will ultimately move on from Gruden as well.

Probably going to be Gibbs in some capacity because Snyder feels that's the best way to get fans to buy into the org.

Would Gibbs do it a third time in a row? Especially after his health ultimately was at risk and that was ten years ago.

I could see JG coming in, but not as coach. Rather, he'd be a consultant to DS on how to fix this mess.

Gibbs is 78. I can't imagine him wanting to come back in any capacity.

And here's my question - if it is Riddick, he was an integral part of recent decisions that got us here - I understand that he never had GM power previously, but what evidence is there that he's the guy for that job? He's a very likable guy. But what's he done to inspire belief he can straighten this disaster of a franchise out?

It's Scott MacGloughan and he has been sober for 2 years.

I've thought it's going to take someone like Gibbs to tell Snyder how full of suck this organization is.

It's gonna be the DC coach. It's gonna be Todd Bowles, my fellow Seminoles.

All good points. In the 80's, you could feel confident that there was a foundation here, a solid nucleus year after year in both the front office and the locker room. Yeah, some years were better than others, but you always felt like we had folks that knew how to tweak and get back into contention ie adding pieces like Wilbur Marshall et al. Now it's completely scatter shot. Yeah, they still add pieces, but it's not to help the overall foundation, it's for publicity. I don't need to put names like Deion Sanders and the rest here, we all know them. We've never BUILT a team, we've just tossed pieces together with no apparent rhyme or reason................ever. And that's why we are where we are. End of story

They definitely care.
Looking at twitter and other forums at the overwhelming fan response (referring to other places), and a common theme is how utterly miserable the entire organization is, and always will be.
However,the thing is, the people choose to repeatedly post and engage in the discussion of how embarrassing the team is, and always will be, and how their life is devastated because of it.
That is not the behavior of people who do not care.
If a person is made miserable about something, and/or do not care about it, then why make the choice to relentlessly self-commiserate and submerge oneself into it ?
That is caring.
Why would a person continue to go back to a restaurant, where they have convinced themselves that they will always receive terrible food and terrible service ?

The Redskins are in bad shape personnel-wise.

The team has the fewest A level performers in the division.

You can identify Trent Williams as an ‘A'. Jonathan Allen is emerging as a DT and may be an A in 2019.

I think Scherff regressed in 2018 before he got hurt and fell back to a B. He can rebound in 2019.

We have justifiable hopes for Payne continuing to round out his game and be more consistently excellent going forward.

But to me that's it.

On offense we don't have a quarterback, running back or wide receiver we can be confident is an A level performer going forward. And I would say that with Smith and McCoy healthy.

We are paying Reed as an A based on one breakout year in 2015. That's quite awhile ago in football terms. At 29 it's probably time to move on from him.

Meanwhile in the East Dallas has Elliott, Cooper and Prescott. The Giants have Barkley and Beckham to build with. The Eagles have Wentz at 24.

The Redskins have no cornerstone skill blocks on offense.

On the other side of the ball, other than those listed above you can perhaps point to a fully healthy Dunbar as a dark horse to be a potential A over time.

We are paying the 30 year old Kerrigan as an A but he is too inconsistent to really be considered that. At his age are you likely to get greater productivity or less in 2019 and 2020?

We are also paying 30 year old cornerback Josh Norman A money but he really hasn't played at that level since 2016. A zone corner with 4.6 speed what is his upside? Like Richard Sherman he is likely on the back nine.

The linebackers are OK, slightly above replacement level. But there is no Leighton Vander Esch emerging from that group. Age is an issue with Brown, McPhee and Foster all 29 or older.

Recent #2 pick Ryan Anderson and outside pick Preston Smith seem to under perform their talent and draft position.

In the secondary you have really hope that Dunbar comes back at 100%. He was quietly the team's best corner in 2018 and his injury exposed Norman and the raw backups we have.

Fabian Moreau, a former third round pick touted by the team as a potential first rounder has not smoothly slid into Kendall Fuller's shoes.

The truth is Moreau really didn't step up when Dunbar started to miss time.

With the release of Swearinger, the arrest of Nicholson and the pending free agency of Clinton Dix it appears the Redskins once again are going to be in the business of building an entire unit of safeties from scratch.

We still need a punt or kick returner that is worth the name. Be nice to find someone with TOP end speed.

At least our specialists - Hopkins, Way and Sundberg are top notch.

Because if there's a conspiracy against the Skins, that gives us zero chance.
But at least if the problem is the owner and/or GM, there's at least a chance that they stumble upon success, accidentally.
