Bruce, Scot and the Front Office.

I'll say it again ... I was never wed to Scot McCloughan. I was, and am, wed to the IDEA he represented--that the Redskins were finally willing to hire a General Manager; a full-time, qualified personnel evaluator. It's a damn shame it unraveled, regardless of who one believes shoulders the lion's share of "blame."

Far more important to me at this point is where we go from here. If the team makes a concerted effort to hire another full-time, qualified personnel evaluator, I'll continue to be hopeful the slow turnaround we've enjoyed the last two years will continue. If they don't, however, and we head into 2017 and with indications Bruce plans to assume full GM duties again, I'm going to hard pressed to believe we aren't going to slide back down the hill into irrelevance.

As much as I'm interested in the FA moves we're making, I'm more interested in watching for signs that the search for the next GM is getting at the very least equal emphasis.

Whatever we think the reasons for McLovin's departure were, I think we can all agree that things looked a lot brighter with him here, and him leaving is not a good thing.

I guess our best hope is that McLovin was such a drunk that he didn't do a darn thing when he was here and Bruce Allen is actually the secret genius behind all of our recent personnel moves. I somehow doubt that myself, but you never know.

More likely, it was a combination of McLovin's personal problems and our front office handling things badly. And that makes me sad. I guess Om is probably right. What we should be rooting for now is team replacing McLovin ASAP with a solid GM. We'll see.

OM, I don't agree or disagree with you. From my years of experience feel this situation was poorly handled. From the timing, to leaks, to rumors, and everything in between
we could have done it better.

If they want to move on from McCloughan or anyone for all that matters, then that is ok. They don't have to ask my opinion and I have no control over what they do.

I have been a fan of this team for a long, long time. All I can do is voice my opinion (good or bad) and control if spend my dollars on their merchandise.

I will continue to defend my team to the idiot fans of the other 31 teams. Don't mind voicing displeasure amongst my family hear, but not in public.

I think what Boone has said in other posts is something we can all agree on. That no matter how the Redskins handled this, they were coming out looking bad. They always seem to even if they were to do it 100% right. But as this thing wore on, the national narrative took hold and that became the story. What is the appropriate response from the team? I have no clue, just like I have no clue if they did anything to control it. It appears they did not, which as I said earlier, may be the correct approach. Or perhaps they should have done more.

Like you, I will continue to root for the team and defend this team through good and bad. Some days and some years, it's easier than others. And sometimes, I don't have the energy to do so because the events just suck the enthusiasm right out of me. What's done is done and as a wise man said recently, where they go from here is what matters now.

I'm not happy it didn't work out with Scot. But the drinking has to be the biggest issue here. I've walked away from family over it. so, it doesn't break my heart to see the team move away from it. At all.

As for the timing of it. It seems very likely it was brought on my McCloo and his people, for leaking info. The team likely wanted to wait as long as possible. Addicts don't like to wait. Especially when they're in denial. Maybe he forced their hand.

And, I might add, making the move on the 1st day of FA was brilliant. They knew they were going to take an ass whipping, regardless of when the move was made. But with all the FA news happening, there was less time to spend on it, nationally.

One other thing helped with the timing. Jimmy Garappolo's drunken farewell last night on social media. He's still with the Patriots, but on national sports talk, they were covering it like the Vatican was meeting to elect a new Pope. That was obviously blind luck, but I'm not complaining.

The moves for McGee and McClain look solid IF the Redskins are going to move back to a 4-3 defensive alignment and we can plug these guys inside as tackles.

If we are sticking with the 3-4, we still don't have a nose tackle as neither of these guys has the size or proven experience in that role.

As for Swearinger, he's a good player.

The trouble is with Cravens, last year's #2 pick, transitioning to strong safety, we needed a FREE safety to complement him.

Swearinger is more of a strong safety himself, good tackler to support the run and cover short/intermediate. But he isn't a deep cover, middle of the field guy.

If, as I firmly believe, his ouster is completely due to drinking, I'm not sure how else the team could handle it. They can't come out and say that without facing a law suit. They have to be silent on the cause. There appears to be agreed upon restraint from both side in discussing reason, and the only way this benefits Scott is if he did him self in a 3rd time. I think they go out and find another personnel GM. This was working IMO, and I think was an indication Dan and Bruce realize Bruce is not a personnel guy. Great with the contract stuff, not so hot in picking talent.

Keim endorsed the signing of Swearinger as the Redskins didn't have a lot of youth and play-making ability in the back seven, but he also agreed in re the loggerjam at one spot potentially with Cravens:

"While Cravens and Swearinger are more natural strong safeties, Blackmon is more of a free."

So to him the fallback is Blackmon at fee with Cravens/Swearinger at strong.

But to me a platoon or rotation of these players at strong safety is a less than optimal use of resources. You have a #2 pick and a first day free agent signing competing to not sit on the bench.

Meanwhile you might have to depend upon a 32/33 year old journeyman to stay in the lineup opposite?
