14 rush attempts for the half, not bad but need to hit 20 more this half.
 
So according to the Lion fans inout Recon, Detroit plays better in the first half, right? Maybe there's still hope ...

It all boils down to 2 things...Joe Barry coaches scared at the end of football games, but more importantly stupid mistakes cost us again. We should have beaten this team by 10 points, instead we lose on a last minute TD drive by our opposition.
 
You can't win them all, but damn it... win the ones you're supposed to win and can win.

If Matt Jones holds onto the football today, we win the game.

He'd be way in the back of the dog house if I were coaching.

All the team has done is talk to him constantly about ball security....and he still can't get it through his head to cover the ball up.

Time for Kelley to get couple of starts.

The part I struggle with is that he simply just dropped the ball on the endzone fumble. No one touched the ball. It just...popped out. How does that even happen?

Time for Kelley to get couple of starts.

I think, honestly, if we can get our collective heads out of our collective arses, we put games like this away. Boneheaded fumbles, bad footwork, misreads, missed tackles, missed opportunities all the way around...just not a great day. But it certainly isn't the end of the world & there is plenty of football left to play.
 
Very sloppy today. Fumbles, penalties, missed FGs, offensive line getting blown up, defense not getting stops when it matters most. The Redskins looked very undisciplined today. At times, it looked like they were sleep walking out there.

Oh and to continue Boone's thought on Ryan Grant. Not only was it the dropped passes, but the throw that looked like Cousins just chucked it into double coverage, I'm pretty sure Grant ran the wrong route. Davis went out on the wheel route and Grant went down to block in the area where the pass went. If Grant clears out to the inside like the other receiver on that side did, Davis is wide open and may score. Perhaps the throw was rushed and the trail defender makes the play, but it would not have looked like such a poor pass.

Plus Grant lined up incorrectly negating a long pass completion.
 
Classic Redskins type game evidenced by two things. We continue at an abnormal rate, to leave points on the field, or take them off the board. Defies explanation there. Second, we never lost the propensity to find new ways to lose ball games.

Yes we were not going to win because of the destiny thing, wasn't going to happen no matter what. Unbelievable ball bounces, Kirk and Thompson falling down untouched, nothing makes sense, bizzarro world.

This was one of Those Games. And we lost by 3 points on the road at the last second.

Hopefully we got it out of our system.
 
This game was a disaster from start to finish.

It seems clear the Redskins were in fact reading their press clippings about being 4-2 and didn't take the Lions seriously getting off the plane.

The hangover lasted 3 quarters and you really can't afford to play ONE quarter of football in this parity league anymore unless you are the Patriots with Belichick and Brady.

Dustin Hopkins missed a field goal that hit the uprights early and those 3 points would have salted this game away, even with Matt Stafford's potential for late game heroics.

But I am loathe to criticise him too much as he has been for the most part excellent on the season.

So, where does my frustration lie?

1. Fourth quarter defense. With a veteran quarterback on the field with the score within a touchdown, you really can't afford to rush 4 men and drop 7 or even 8 into coverage and allow him to sit there and count to 3 or 4 to find a receiver, because he will.

Win or lose, the smart move would have been to come after Stafford and if we got him for a key sack the game would have been over.

I always prefer to win/lose being aggressive rather than passive. Why give Stafford the chance to mount another end of game comeback without significant pressure?

2. How much longer can we afford to suit Matt Jones up to run the football here in Washington?

Chris Thompson was our most effective outside rusher today and Robert Kelley has shown he can run between the tackles. That looks like a pretty good 1-2 punch to me.

You can't win championships (not that this team is that close yet) with regular starters that are turnover prone. And that is what Jones shows he still is and very well may continue to be going forward.

That early fumble today cost us the game on the scoreboard. Forget the missed field goal. That fumble cost us 7 points in a game that was otherwise 10-3 late in the third quarter.

He did the same thing last year.

Here we are in Year 2 and we have fellow 2015 draftees Jamison Crowder and Brandon Scherff starting on the offense and being productive.

Jones, meanwhile, by general consensus plays a position where the transition from college to the NFL is thought to be easier.

But he seems to be still fighting himself in terms of the fundamentals, running with his pads lower, going North-South and not jumping plays to the outside too prematurely, holding onto the football.......................

Seems like the undrafted free agent, Kelley, already has a better handle on these details.

I understand that Jones was a #3 draft pick, but at some point you have to get guys off the field who continue to make the same mistakes and show the same limitations.

Let him sit and watch for a couple of weeks. Let's see what we have in Kelley, so that at the end of the year we can make a fully informed decision about what we have to do at RB, if anything in the draft and free agency in 2017.
 
Forget the final score of this game. Everyone should be most worried about Trent Williams getting carted off the field with a knee and Josh Norman already in the locker room heading into the concussion protocol.

Those are the two best football players on this team.

And we lose both of them in a dog-patch game against a no-account Lions team that is going to end up in 3rd place in the North in any event.
