If we didn't have Junior Galette coming back, I'd say a strong case could be made for Noah Spence. He's a much nastier, much scarier version of Lavar Arrington. But how often would he get on the field?

That makes the rest of the question easy.

Forget the positions played, technique, or anything remotely related to their level of play.

Now look at those names and tell me which name you would least like to try and block?

Jarran Reed? Bleh.

Andrew Billings? "Andrew" for a football player? Pass

I have no idea who Ryan Kelly is, but I'd bet he's an Irish guy. I'd take him in basketball. Starting Center for your Celtics? :)

But A'Shawn Robinson? My God. Who wants to come between him and the ball carrier or quarterback? I sure as hell don't.

As far as Noah Spence is concerned, you can never have too many pass rushers....especially when the pass rusher you signed is coming off an achilles injury.

But I'd take the big DT Robinson too. ;)

If Noah had not had been stupid he would have been top 10. Have to take his indescretions into consideration. If the redskins can trade down and he is still there in the middle of the second then yeah take him

Not many centers go in the 1st round, the Pouncey boys come to mind. If he's sitting there, we have to take him. We are rebuilding and a DT is a top priority, but a Center like him dropping into our laps is a gift, we should take it. Our OL could end up being great for a few years.

If there are as many DT's in the draft as has been suggested, we should be able to pick one up in the 2nd round.

Yeah 100% with ya on a C of his caliber. The DT's will be in a rotation anyways so more solid group is better than 1 stud. None of the DT's are Suh type disruptive anyways I don't think.

Besides, getting Kirk a consistent hand warmer is paramount.

Let's see. We have spent #1 pick on Kerrigan, #2 on Smith and on Murphy, signed Junior Galette at OLB.

Meanwhile, we have spent very little in terms of draft picks and FA to develop sustainable depth on the DL.

To me it's a no brainer. You take the best available big ugly in Robinson at DT and anchor the interior.

An outstanding defense needs one core or anchor player at each level to be really successful.

We have lacked that player on the DL for some years now.

Same can be said of the interior of the OL...we have not had a Center that anchored that line since...well, Raybach?

Yep, day 1 Centers are too rare to pass up. If Kelly is there ya snatch him up. I'd much rather spend a first rounder on an every down player anyway.

Be completely fine if we alternated d-line and secondary the rest of the draft too. Probably will need a rb somewhere as well.

There are about ten different reasons why I don't think Scot would even consider drafting an O lineman in the first round. BT is hitting on one of them.

"An outstanding defense needs one core or anchor player at each level to be really successful."

We've already invested two first round picks on the O-line.

You'd probably be much better off spreading the first rounders around to different position groups, and different levels of the field. Not only for the quality of play on the field, but for contract and salary cap reasons also.

We tried two first rounders at safety for some reason, and that didn't work. Detroit drafted WRs in the first round every year and that was a disaster.

We need a first on the D-line. And a first at LB. And a first at safety, and then a first at CB on the back end. A first at each different level.

That's a pretty poor analogy though Mike - there's only one safety on the field at a given time and only a couple WRs (who don't play every down). And O Linemen aren't 100% interchangeable. Would I be surprised if we take another in the 1st round this year? Yes. Would it be a blown pick? I don't think so.

Well we spent a first on Sean and then on Laron right after. Two first round safeties on the field is rare, to say the least.

Two or three firsts on WRs is also overkill. We wouldn't want three number 1 WRs.

Nor would you want 3 or 4 firsts on the O-line to the detriment of the rest of the team, if for no other reason than financial.

Sean was incredible.

But I don't believe there's been a single team in the last 20 years that's used two first round picks on safeties to play on the field at the same time. Many drafts don't even have a single safety taken in the first round.

It's just a very strange way to spend resources.

That isn't to say that strange can't work. If you already have a great safety and the BPA truly is another safety, then sure.....It's just that most teams don't follow that path in building a team.

Make no mistake, when Taylor was on the field our defense was built around him. He was that good.

Landry and Taylor would have been absolutely and utterly dominant for years, but they only got to play half a season together. I would normally never advocate drafting two safeties high like that, but I also think Landry and Taylor were an exception to the rule and terrible example in this discussion. Taylor getting murdered was what was costly to that defense, not the fact that we drafted two safeties so high.

Regarding drafting a center versus drafting a DT in the first round this year, I would expect McLovin will take whichever player is better. If that center is truly dominant, and there's no truly dominant DT on the board, I figured he'd go center, and that would be ok. We can then get a solid DT in the second if this draft is so deep at that position. We do need to address DT in this draft, though. Absolutely have to.

in reality I think the only 2 that are left when we pick are kelly and spence. But in all reality it could be only Kelly

It's not hideous, but I'd lose the pant stripe if it were up to me. Like to see the jersey paired with gold pants maybe.
