Yup, he's getting the ball out quickly, but.... there's had to be a but:) he's throwing short of the sticks more often then not. Cousins has shown improvement in that turnover area. I think those results come from Gruden having him on a short leash from what I can see to keep the pics down. Gruden is depending on blocking and YAC that hasn't been there. When teams know you throw short more then half the time, it makes it easy to defend against. I think Cousins could do much better, but I get the feeling the coach is scared shitless of letting him really go out and play ball.

That’s 18th in the NFL, right in the middle of the pack, just behind Aaron Rodgers, who averages a distance of 7.99 yards per pass. Some quarterbacks, like Cam Newton and Ben Roethlisberger, throw passes that average over 10 yards in the air. Others, like Rivers and Matthew Stafford, average less than 6.9 yards of distance per pass. In all, there are 14 qualifying quarterbacks who throw passes that are on average shorter than Cousins’ and have a lower completion percentage."

Okay. Really don't want to open up THAT can of worms again, but that could be said for players who have had much better seasons than Kirk Cousins has ever had.

The only way you replace him with some one immediately who is better is to get a free agent, and that just never pans out well.

Maybe, maybe not. Doesn't mean we have to be happy with an average QB. We can root for the guy and hope for the best, sure. Not like we have much choice at this point. But we are talking about whether or not we should be happy about it.

I was happy with those guys too. Of course in the 70s and 80s, before the salary cap, before free agency, during the infancy of the West Coast Offense and the 5 yard-chuck rule, back when defenseless receivers were getting legally decapitated going over the middle, back when the rules favored a balanced attack and lines and defenses could be built to last for a decade at a time, winning with guys like Rypien and 90 year-old Doug Williams was a lot easier. Even then, getting more than three solid years out of a guy like that was unlikely. These days it can still be done, but a team like the Seahawks is the exception rather than the rule.

But yeah. At this point we have to plan to win the way Seattle does, or get hot at the right time the way Baltimore or That Team From New York occasionally does. That's what we've got. Given who our GM is we may just get there. I'd be HAPPIER if we had a Franchise QB to go along with him, but it is what it is.
 
I think we're playing a syntax game here. We'd all be happier with a "Franchise QB". If an upgrade was available, McL would jump I would think. But that's really not what all the back and forth is about. I see improvement in Kirk and room for improvement. I don't see limitations that aren't correctable and I don't think he's done improving. I think some of the nitpicking is just that. These last games will be telling. The noise about lack of deep shots, and even having Gruden call out some shots that weren't taken but should have been indicate to me there will be more of a push on Kirk to take those shots. He's better now than the beginning of the year and I hope he's better at the end of the year than he is now.
 
I think a full offseason of playing catch with the recievers will help him tremendously
 
Good Gut check performance. He was money after the pick. The big play to Reed/Jones was questionable, but I watch Franchise QB's make those throws and get help from their receivers get praised weekly for trusting their receivers to go up and get it. The ball was up high and Reed have a good shot at it. If you're gonna throw a ball up for grabs, Reed's the guy to target. I'd like to hear from someone at the game on the sacks. Were they truly coverage sacks.
 
First 6 games: 1420 yds, 66%, 6.2 YPA, 7 TDs, 8 INTs

Last 7 games: 1886 yds, 72%, 8.3 YPA, 15 TDs, 3 INTs

He seems to be developing into a great one.

Still don't know how McRib is starting....De La Puente must blow majorly.

And for all the talk about how Kouandjio is the "best fourth round guard prospect" he's ever seen, Callahan must not think he's good enough to sit Long down, even though he's supposed to be a better run blocker(what I thought we wanted to be) and stronger than Long.

Frustrating,to say the least.

I loved this pick (Kouandjio) during the draft. I really hope he is just getting up to speed and there isn't a problem with him.

Kirk was alright today. Not great, not terrible. If that ends up one of his bad games from here on it, we're in good shape.
 
Kirk has the opportunity to do what has not been done in Washington in 29 years...throw for 4000 yards.

Some will discount this as a meaningless statistic, but it's something we have not seen in a long time.
