The Gruden Files - Year Two

Why can't we have it both ways ?

Have a coach who is a constant screamer, but has varying degrees of screams.

Like a Mike Ditka scream......all the way up to a blood-curdling scream.

Basically a different type of scream for every situation.

So there's always respect-demanding screams, but they all have their meaning.

Hey, I'll be happy with whatever works with the said group of players right now. I completely understand Gruden is a laid back kind of guy, and I'm good with that if the team was playing well. You don't generally need to be the heavy in that case. When the team makes the same mistakes through the first quarter of the season, you get out of your laid back mental lawn chair, and start crackin the wip a bit. Ya don't wait till week 12. I'm quite sure some will instantly say, you have no clue what happens at practice, and that's a fact.... undeniable, none of us do. After watching Gruden for the better part of two seasons now, there have been more then a few instances where even the most mild mannered coaches would have gotten visibly pissed off on the sidelines. We get a Droopy Dog impersonation fairly consistently, which has me thinking this really has never happened before in practice. He doesn't need to be a tyrant, screaming constantly, but screaming regularly would be a good thing. He gets cranky, which gets the other coaches cranky, then SHAZAAAAAM Gee Sargent Carter, we wooped the Giants.

More likely its the obvious observation. That the team is actually playing for something. Those opportunities are few and far between. He only has one chance at making a go of it with the Knute Rocky speech (spelling intentional). He better dig deep for the next game 'cause I'm not sure he understands the importance of the rivalry. I hope he's channeling George Allen right now.

That could be, but I'd have to ask, shouldn't the team have be playing for something all along ? I mean, why would you wait till you're in line for a playoff birth late in the season to do something to really get the team focused / motivated. Whatever he saw a week ago to set him off, I have little doubt that it's something new he's seeing. Why did it take so long to react ? It may not be in his nature to be a hard ass, but he needs to change that to some degree on a regular basis.

well....3 points in the second half.....so it's not clear to me whether a season long trend has actually been mitigated.

Yeah, second half was disappointing, work still needs to be done. No one disputes that.

Very true, but the team was different this past week, and while 3 points in a half isn't what you want, nor no points off turnovers, we did enough in all aspects of the game to win. That is the bottom line after all. As for the rest of the season, we'll know a lot come next Tuesday morning.

Ha - in the video @ 1:27, Steve Young owns that guy who said, "You will get the Cowboys BEST against the Redskins. This is their Super Bowl !!"

Yeah ... ouch. :)

That said ... we will get their best.

Proof positive that even in a season when Dallas truly equals suck, BSPN will do whatever they can to pimp 'em.

Last yearGruden didn't have enough talent for yelling and screaming to do any good.

This year there are a lot of injuries but also a lot more younger players that have ability to play once they have gotten the chance.

Gruden has enough on the team now to hustle this squad past a Romo-less Dallas team, a Sanchez-led Eagles club and the others on the schedule.

This is a much better gauge for us on where Gruden is as a coach and leader.

How many actual teams consistently and evenly distribute their points in each quarter or half, of every game ?

that's irrelevant and furthermore not what I am speaking to.

as everyone knows this team has a pattern of flat 3rd quarters. as for 3 points in the second half of the Gints. that's a fact. people are free to interpret as they chose. we all chose a path for how we interpret events. we all have various schemes for what we consider balanced assessment.

The third quarter was a huge problem early on, but really hasn't been since week 7 against the Bucs. The only third quarters we've "lost" since then were on the road against arguably the two best teams in the league.

3rd quarters:

0-0 vs Dolphins
0-10 vs Rams
0-3 vs Giants 1
3-13 vs Eagles
0-3 vs Falcons
0-17 vs Jets
------------
14-0 vs Bucs
0-3 vs Patriots
10-0 vs Saints
0-10 vs Panthers
0-0 vs Giants 2

your stats show me 2 games out of 11 where we out-scored the other team; an amazing 8 games where we didn't score at all!

I'm looking at scoring period! .....irrespective of whether we outscored the opponent. I think it's safe to say that the second half has not been a long suit for this team vis offense scoring. not the end of the world...but an observable trend.

My "stat" showed several things, including the one I noted--recent performance versus early in the year.

But as has been said before, people are free to interpret at they choose.

I would look at number of possessions as a key indicator of production (i.e. time of possession). Also, how many times did we receive the kickoff to start the 3rd qtr.

points would be nice, but hey, if we don't have the ball.....you do the math.

interesting.

do you draw a distinction between running and passing teams? that will throw the numbers off somewhat. I get your point and it's a good one.

Big time fail and huge step back tonight.

Coached scared and very Norv like.

I can't like a post where Norv is mentioned in comparison to the current coach, but that's a good comparison to the game tonight. It seems like every time you think this team has turned the corner, the coaches, QB, or defense reminds us that they are not there yet.

You want to change the culture and bring back accountability to this club ASAP?

Cut Desean Jackson this morning.

Think that's too far "out there"?

Ask yourself this: Would Bellichick have put up with Jackson's antics last night?

Hell, he cut a guy for muffing a punt just the other week.

But this team doesn't have the testicular fortitude to stand up to anyone....let alone Jackson.
