Morris time. For several reasons.

Fast forward 6 months.

Alfred is gone to a zone blocking team.

Now what's crazy? Getting nothing for him, or giving Scot another 3rd or 4th round pick?

Pretty easy call during a rebuild.

Why do you think anyone wants to give up a draft pick for someone who's going to be a free agent in "6 months"?

They would just wait and get him when they can negotiate with him without the draft pick loss.

We're not getting that for him. And even if we did, I don't think it's an "easy call". Have you seen Matt Jones run lately? He isn't doing well. Thompson looks like the best back on the roster to me right now, and given his injury history, I think it's crazy to rely on him for more than a change of pace back.

We're not the Pats. We can't just swap out players around Cousins and watch him pick up the slack. You mentioned yesterday that we are only half a game out of the division lead, yet you also want to trade the only proven RB on the roster? As Henry said, we MIGHT possibly get a 6th for Morris, who has won games by himself for us before. If we want any hope of making the playoffs, we very well may end up needing the guy.

I think the real question is, why can't Gruden adapt his scheme to the strengths of his players? ;)

No trade will happen. Mainly because Dan is looking back in time 2 years.

For a rebuild, I'm looking forward 2 years.

And a draft pick for McLovin is worth more than the last 9 games of Morris imho.

So, how many years does a 'rebuild' take? 2, 3, 4? We're in Gurden's 2nd year, or does he get a pass?

This is looking Norv like.

What's the "pillow talk" tr1? :)

We're almost 1 1/2 years in. I think most would agree that 3 is reasonable.

Another question is, what scheme is needed for Alf to succeed?

He exploded on the scene under Shanny's zone and zone read with Griff being a viable threat to take off. Do we have the current roster to do that and was that scheme even viable long term?

Over the years, variants of Shanny's scheme have been incorporated but we can't go back to the same dynamic in 2012, Griff's threat to run diminished (for whatever reasons we choose), the D could now focus more on the Alf factor as a running back and not a part of a duo.

Don't know enough about these schemes to actually determine if the stuff that makes Alf tick is still included in the playbook but by all appearances, Alf is now not even getting it on zone plays. We've just started to get Kirk running on a few to see if that helps but he's no where the threat that Griff was "in his prime"

Scot came in...'we're going big, slobber knockin' smash mowff football, we might not win a bunch but they're going to know they played us'.

Alf seemed excited to get into it. Right now it's just not working, maybe there are tweaks being mulled over during the bye but I suspect it's more about confidence and execution than any great scheme revision.

Considering none of the running backs is running all that well, I respectfully disagree, and contend that scheme has something to do with the equation. It's a little discouraging to have a 3 time 1k yard back, and a highly touted rookie that everyone seems really excited about both struggle to the point that some want to trade the 1k yard performer.

If Jones is named starter, and is able to separate himself over the course of 5 games or so, I am willing to admit that scheme isn't the problem. But right now, I genuinely don't see how scheme isn't the majority of the problem. Neither primary running back looks good to me.

just looking at this stat you can see the issue is lack of carries. halfway through the season and he doesn't even have 100 carries so far.

You can also see that since Gruden has taken over his number (carries and yards) have gone down.

it may be the system, it maybe the coach. but if you don't give a runner like Morris the ball more than 8-10 times a game he will never get a rhythm going. If you keep making him "1 of 2 options" he will never feel like he is the feature back, either. Gruden seems dead set on doing with Morris whatever HE wants to do and that includes running him to the left with vanilla runs when its shown over and over that it doesn't work. Yet when Jones gets in he gets the ball to the right, he gets sweeps, etc. People may think I am looney for it but it is obvious to me that he is trying to force Morris to be what he isn't just like he did with Griffin.

What the (heck) are you talking about? Is that based on anything or ya just kinda throwing it out there?

if you had to guess...which do you think it is?

To me, its just throwing it out there. There is no proof that Dan is involved with player decisions at all anymore; its all just rumors and hearsay. But it makes for great comments and a way to kick the hornets nest.

Do you mean since RG3's option was signed?

Like I said, you have no proof that Dan was involved in it. But it sure sounds good and like you have some great conspiracy regarding the "EEEEEVIIIILLLLLL DAAAAAN" but nobody is spooked by a made up boogeyman

Mike, the split between the Ownership and the 'football people' was well documented in the media, including Keim. Would Gruden have signed off on the option? I don't think so. So, that leaves the GM, the President and the Owner coming to an arrangement where RG3 got the option.

I know you hate hearing facts about the team and its poor judgement making, but if you can come up with another scenario, I'd have to say mine is pretty solid.

You don't know shit about me or what I hate. Let's cut that out right now, please.

As far as the extension being signed off on; you have NO idea what Scot said behind closed doors or if he came to the agreement with Gruden or he just told Gruden he was going to make the move, or if he talked to Allen about it and they came up with the decision. I get it; Dan is "evil". We have all heard it 10000 times by those who have that thought.

My scenario is this: you dont know what happened and are making assumptions based on people who weren't in the room and what you think happened. I'd say that is as solid as anything else that has been brought up by you.

You've implied that Dan is still active in football operations...still making decisions.

Edit: My impression is that OM believes Dan is no longer allowed in Redskins Park...and, yes, that's an exaggeration.

If that's the question, then I'm going on reports from Keim.

Keim says Scot and Jay are against RG3, and the reason he is on the roster is because Bruce and Dan demand it.

Keim has also insinuated (I haven't seen Alfred's name directly) that Dan still has "two players from the past regime" that he insists stay on the roster right now.

To me, that's RG3 and Alfred.

McD,

You say Dan Snyder is "looking two years in the past". Even we were to take that unsupported assertion at face value ... the conversation is about Alfred Morris' struggles in 2015. What are you suggesting one has to do with the other?

Edit:

Oh lord. I see others picked up on it right away. I guess I'd let myself believe we were past that. Carry on.

I still haven't seen any of the people who say Morris has lost a step, or lost his vision or tenacity, or decisiveness or whatever explain why they (apparently) want to replace Morris with Jones who has played marginally (at best) better? If the argument is to provide a spark, I can live with that. But I think it's quite a jump to go from there to trade Morris.

Then again, to be fair, THAT bandwagon appears pretty empty right now.

I'm suggesting that some bright people came out before the season and said that Alfred wasn't a fit for this scheme. That he should be traded because his production would be limited.

That Scot wants a power running game. A Frank Gore. Not an Alfred Morris type. A power runner. Not a zone blocking runner like Alfred.

I think people don't accept that. That some are still holding out hope, that like with RG3, a 2012 might happen again.

That group of people is looking at the past. Not looking at the scheme, the likelihood that he's gone after this year, or the future of the team.

how is morris not a power back? The best thing we all loved about him was his ability to hit someone and fall forward for another 4-5 yards. there is a picture of him from the Dolphins game THIS YEAR laying some fool out.
