So saw a new post from the Sports Bog. In it, Sheehan claims we should throw out Griffin's 2012 season since that version is never coming back. Fair enough. So I decided to pull up Griffin's numbers from 2013-2014 and compare them to Cousins' numbers for his career. Let's take a look:

Griffin:
5-15 record as a starter
421/670, 62.8, 4897, 20:18, 7.3ypa, 71 sacks

Cousins:
4-11 record as a starter
391/635, 61.6, 4450, 24:27, 7.0ypa, 23 sacks

Ok, so Cousins takes fewer sacks. Outside of that, what does he do differently than Griffin?

I've always said he takes fewer sacks because he gets the ball out faster. but its his accuracy when he does that which is his biggest issue.

Griffin - 23 INTs
Cousins - 27INTs

Griffin - 40TDs
Cousins - 224TDs

Lost yards to sacks can cost field position, craps on down and distance to move the chains, gets the QB injured more frequently, inspires the opposing D.

while I agree, interceptions cause drives to stop even faster and cause the defense to be back on the field more often to try and stop scores. its really a case of who you prefer...both of them are horrible but whatever camp you're in is the one you back.

brotha El: but that's not the message being sent by Gruden et al. Gruden has specifically stated that Cousins does not carry the team to wins. his gameplans clearly demonstrate that he is not willing to place a heavy responsibility on Cousins.

I think a better way to put it is that Cousins is a better game manager....and will even be better than his injury prone, indecisive peer once he, too, wins a division championship!

Is Capt Pick vulgar? Is Capt Pick totally detached from reality? I fail to see where this is a major transgression of protocol or any less relevant than a callsign picked out of the blue from a TV Show!

there is the thought...going out on a limb here...that if he wasn't turn-over prone...the opportunity to assign such a moniker would be asymptotically approaching zero.

Over Griffin's last 20 starts, his winning% is .200

Cousins' career winning% is .267.

Now, unless you think Cousins goes better than 1-4 in his next 5 starts, they'll be the same.

So how does he give us a better chance to win the game if they're winning% is pretty equal?

It may be one of those things that 'seems to be so' but the stats don't bear it out - but our 3rd down conversion rate and the ability to keep drives going (as well as TOP) *seems* greatly improved with Cousins under center. Don't know if the numbers reflect it or not.

We're #1 in the NFL in TOP at 33:24.

We're #9 in 3rd% at 43%.

We're #28 in PPG at 19.5.

Hard to tell for TOP going last year unless you break down every game and add up TOP by each QB, so for the sake of easiness, I'll go back to 2013.

10th in TOP at 30:53.

11th in 3rd% at 40%.

23rd in PPG at 20.9.

So yes, improvement in TOP and 3rd%, but it's not reflected in PPG.

agree too, but having almost 3 times the sacks might play into that equation just as easily.

If Griff could have substantially fewer sacks then I think we'd have something going-on in a positive way. It would also indicate that he's playing at the level of a NFL QB, think we'd all be happy with that despite what camp we're currently in.
