Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

He had a TD dropped by Garcon in the 1st pre season game, where he played one quarter.

Then, Gruden tried to kill him in the 2 quarters he played in the second game, before he got injured.

In his second season, he was coming off surgery, and I don't recall him playing a preseason game.

I forget what happened in 2014, but who cares. This stat you mention about preseason games demonstrates how far you've got to dig to discredit the guy.

Nice.

I really don't have to dig very far. He's dug his own hole. You just choose to excuse it because he was an RB/QB hybrid his first season and saw success with it. How's that working out for him over the past 3 years?

For the record, each week I find Kirk less and less up to the task...but Griffin would not have generated a single win thus far this season. Bet!

I hope everyone realizes that Robert Griffin III QB'd the Redskins when they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 7 regular season games ago (prior to Chip Kelly dismantling that team). The offense scored 27 points in that game, more than any game that Kirk Cousins has quarterbacked this season.

The reason Robert lost his starting job was predominantly because Jay Gruden prefers Kirk Cousins... The injury and not passing concussion protocol was what was put forward as Gruden's justification for Kirk starting week 1.

I'm sure much of what goes into Robert being 3rd on the depth chart is the $16M and 5th year option concerns. If he isn't starting, you might as well not risk him at all. Also, Jay Gruden has always liked Colt McCoy.

So... here we are... stuck in QB purgatory because we have a huge investment in RGIII going to waste because our HC prefers a certain style of QB, even though none of the QBs have distinguished themselves in this system.

This is why RG3 was ranked the 31st best QB, and why he's no longer playing the position.

That's perfect coaching, perfect O-line, perfect WRs.

SI said this about him before the season even started:

9. Kirk Cousins, Washington

I’m fairly convinced Washington could be the league’s worst team this season, so I’m not giving Cousins much of a chance to avert the train wreck that appears to be on its way in our nation’s capital. Cousins has some skills, a nice passing touch and a pretty good grasp on Jay Gruden’s offense and where the plays are to be made in it. But his history is to get careless and start turning the ball over at times, and he won’t have this job for long if he throws interceptions as often as he did last year (nine in 204 attempts, for a dismal 4.4 INT rate). Cousins won’t be the biggest reason Washington struggles once again this season, and he is the best of Gruden’s three quarterback options at the moment. But would it surprise anyone if both Colt McCoy and Robert Griffin III each get starting shots again this season, as all three quarterbacks did in 2014?

Even people on the outside see how prone he is to turnovers and how he only has "some skills". They all believed Griffin would get another chance to start and if it wasn't for Gruden's obvious grudge and the 16 million dollar tag, he would. Cousins is not doing well enough to keep on the field.

And how come the receivers aren't all open on every play with Kirk/Colt playing?

You are as lopsidedly biased against Griffin, as anyone is against Kirk.

Your still photo cherry picking is comical.

But do keep it up. A good laugh is always welcome.

Yeah, I'm so tired of all the drama Griffin is creating with this team.

oh, wait...

Who said they haven't been?
I just assumed, since we saw 3 cherry picked pictures a day from you when Griffin was playing. And not nary a one with your boy's choice in there.

Why is that?

If we're only going to score 20 points a game and still have a losing record... I'd rather do that with RGIII at the helm, just so I could exhaust all doubt. It's pretty clear that neither QB has progressed in their development at all under Jay Gruden.

I'm not sure that any exist. I haven't come across them.

Most of what I've seen are either completed passes or inaccurate passes to open WRs, or WRs dropping the passes.

I've yet to see any that show an inability to read the field.

Cousins is the best QB we have. No competition for that analysis. Just watch the game smoot. Its obvious Kirk at least brings to the table what Robert doesn't have in order to play conventional drop back prototypical QB play. Heck, not only did Griffin never learn how to slide, he never learned how to throw the ball away to avoid a loss. Kirk looks competent, but he still needs to bring a few impact plays with him.

Ok, you've gone too far. Kirk was bad yesterday for a while. The last throw was at best problematic and at worse, completely his fault. He missed several throws that would have clinched it. Hell, we got the ball off a turnover on their 28 and only managed at FG.

A C seems more than fair to me.

I guess my real point was, Kirk to me is to be evaluated on "his" scale. The bar is low for him. He shouldn't be compared to top 10 qb's in the league. I don't criticize him because he's not a franchise guy. The basis, i.e., bar for him is the qb's on our roster. Not very exciting, but hey I can't expect him to be a savior. Just be a good game manager.

Yet look around the league, Peyton so bad there is bench talk? Stafford so bad he got benched? Kirk is plain vanilla, but he's all we got so I grade him on his own scale.

All I've seen is an offense that has trouble scoring. With every QB.

Hard to say one is doing better than the other when neither can put points up with any regularity.
The big difference, is this years offense has better blocking. A better defense to bail it out/keep us in games. And an improving special teams.

Yet losing, and pathetic point production continue.

The one constant? Jay Gruden.

And for most of us, all doubt has been exhausted.

You keep throwing up numbers that really mean nothing. For every Eagles win you see, I see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game from last year...that was as bad a performance I have ever seen from a QB, against a terrible team. The very same thing that happened to Garcon this past week, happened last year against the Bucs. No one blamed Robert for throwing the ball low, they blamed Garcon for not catching the ball and kicking it up to the defender. This year, rightfully so, they blame Kirk for a poor pass behind Garcon that was bobbled up into the defender.

SP, I know you weren't around when that argument was going on, but there are several on this board I remember vividly, blaming Garcon...a couple of them blaming Cousins, now.

And there are several who were blaming Griffin for anything and everything who refuse to put the same amount of blame on Kirk's shoulders, nor paint the same narrative based on the same or worse play. Such is fandom.

And look who was correct about Griffin...who now has seen enough of Cousins to know he will probably be nothing more than a good backup in this league, but is the best we currently have. I would say I hate saying I told you so...but the reality is...from the beginning I was right about Griffin. He would not last long in this league. Told you so!

For anyone keeping track, Kirk is 4-10 career wise.

What does that tell you about Griffin then if he can't even cracked the lineup each week? I mean...you of all people know the Dan wants him starting. Gruden and more importantly McGloughan, don't want him on the field. Says more than you're willing to admit.

I don't think you hate it at all. :)

I am going to delete my own BGO membership. You guys are the most impatient, whiny fans in America. Man up. Things are moving in the right direction.
