Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

I have no problem throwing into double coverage when you put the ball on the WR's hands. You aren't always going to have 1 on 1 coverage in the NFL. If we're going to discuss the bad passes, make sure we talk about the dropped balls, and the big plays negated by penalties. Minus those, we win easily today, and in large part, due to Cousins quarterbacking.

I don't understand why it's so effing hard to give the guy credit for a damn good performance? Feels like it's never good enough to me.

I've given credit plenty. I've even made sure I went out of my way to give credit. But I'm not going to ignore the negative parts for no good reason.

Triple coverage is never smart....not even with a receiver like megatron.

Sounds pretty 'grudging' to me. But okay. We can agree that our starter who led a 90 yard TD drive to win the game, capped off by a perfect throw to Garçon for the winning TD, was imperfect :)

Can't win. Made sure to mention it and still get criticized. Put it in parenthesis and still get called out for it.

Where's the medium where I can be happy with cousins yet point out when he does dumb stuff?

It's all good Mike. I'm honestly not intending to call you out. It was a great late win and I'm gong to let it go beyond that.

Ok, good. I'm really not a wet blanket....or at least not all the time. And he did look good x 46

Even though kirk handled it fine today (and he did) I don't want him to be counted on to throw it 46 times a game. That's not who we are supposed to be as a team.

Yes, we won. I know it. We won with him throwing. But that isn't smart to make the norm, I feel.

I know what you mean, but I think it all depends on the game. 46 times passing looks bad on paper. But in this game, you have to take into account the long drives as well as Chip Kelly not caring about time of possession, which means more plays. Also, the (mostly) lack of success of the running game today. Cousins didn't force anything today. He mostly took what the D gave him. His worst play was the fumbled snap, that he ended up picking up and getting the TD.

I think this was a better game for Cousins than the St. Louis game. And it was definitely impressive to see him bounce back after the debacle in New Jersey last week.

Kel, agreed. But also thinking of overuse of his arm and "wearing it out".

Cousins throwing anything like 50 times a game is never going to be a recipe for success. Biggest surprise for me today was that we couldn't get the running game going.

It was the recipe today. Kirk Cousins may never be the world beater everyone wants around here, but he is the best we have...and doesn't go out telling everyone he is.

I cringed a couple times when he threw today, but he had a 65% completion ration...good enough, he threw for just under 300 yards...good enough, and had 2 TD's...one on a broken play and one on a helluva throw.

Agreed. My point obviously is that we go that pass heavy, we lose 80% of the time. Not bitching, just sayin' ...

Exactly...nobody wants their qb throwing it that much a game. You have to be more dimensional than that.

I agree with this, but man their defense was stout against the run today for most of the afternoon. We had 108 yards and that's with one big run.

So I guess NE doesn't want Tom averaging 45 throws per game? He is. He threw it 52 times against Buffalo...I bet NE Fans don't bitch about that.

No, we do not want Kirk throwing that much, but he did today, he looked good. In fact...the only throw that I was genuinely upset about is when he under threw Rashad Ross down the sideline...Ross doesn't need to slow down to catch that, if it hits him in stride, it's a TD.

FFS, we won today and our QB looked pretty good, overall!

HTTR!!!

Brian, calm down. I don't agree with what you do but "bitch about it" is not something I'm doing. I'm having a reasonable discussion like an adult.

I don't think any coach wants his qb out there game in and game out throwing it 50 times. Now and then is no big problem, but if we make this a trend it's not going to be good for any longevity.

Then you turn around and agree with exactly what I've been saying....ok. I'm not going to do this.

Hail to the Redskins

You were challenged about your obvious disdain for Kirk Cousins in the Game Chat today because of all your bitching. Do we need to go back in the chat history? Even here, you won't let this topic end...you just want to perpetuate your animosity for Cousins...it's almost like you want him to fail. In all the bitching I have done about Griffin, I always rooted for him to succeed, hoping beyond hope that I was wrong. You just sound like you want nothing more than for Cousins to fail.

You know nothing about what I want or who I am as a fan. It's obvious by how big of an assumption you make and how much you like to throw things up in people's face.

But, thanks for knocking off the "bitching" talk. It's obvious you have no respect for anyone's wishes but what you want. We're done...completely

So when Goal asked you to chill today in Chat, you telling him you'll say whatever you want is respectful to anyone's wishes but your own? My God, you cannot even see it, can you?

Your words say enough about your wants as a fan. I don't draw the inference out of the blue sky...you do have a pattern in your post history.

Be done, I could care less, but don't doubt for a second when we win a game and you want to bitch about one bad throw from our QB, I will challenge you!

46 passes and threw for under 300 yards against a team that is reeling right now. I liked the final drive, but he did throw some really stupid passes. you guys are gonna lose it but im cheering for us to lose, I dont want to be a .500 team and consistently get shittier players, now that we have a decent gm, I want shots at the real talent for at least 2 seasons. then get a real qb if Rg3 hasnt panned out by then

My friend, with all due respect, I really think you don't really recognize what happened in today's game:

1. The Eagles had 1 of the best run defenses in the league going in to this game.

2. Clearly the Eagles' defensive game plan was to stop the run at all costs and make Cousins, who was very much off in the Giants game, beat them. I'm sure they thought they could force Cousins into a couple turnovers which could have been the difference in the game.

3. The Redskins in no way gave up on the run. In fact, they kept going back to it even after it got stuffed over and over again. I have been very hard on Gruden's play calling this season, but I got to hand it to him, he stuck with the run with Morris on that final drive when we all thought we would have to throw the ball on every down. You have cited Cousin's 46 throws, but you haven't mentioned the fact that the Redskins ran the ball 31 times. You can't say a team gave up on the run when the run it 30+ times. Giving up on the run is running it 17 times, which is what the Eagles did today. The Redskin ran a whopping 78 plays today which is a lot, compared to the Eagles 58 plays. That is a winning recipe, and had the Skins had less boneheaded penalties and coverage breakdowns they would have won easily.

4. There is no denying that Cousins had a fantastic game, and was absolutely clutch on the final drive. I know how bummed you are about RG3, and I have to give you that I have wondered more than once this season how RG3 would look with the kind of protection Cousins has enjoyed this season, but there is no denying that Cousins was the freakin man today. The Eagles forced him to beat them, and that's exactly what he did.

5. You need not fret about the Redskins getting away from what they are. Gruden is committed to the run. He proved that today. But teams know that, and are going to try to force Cousins to beat them. What he did today goes a long way towards keeping defenses honest against the Skins for the rest of the season. Getting DJax back, hopefully soon, will also be a huge boost with that, and will really help the running/play action game.

This was a HUGE win for Cousins and the whole team. The NFC is wide open an the Skins are in the race. They are getting some great play from both lines. They still have some serious issues they are dealing with, like coverage and dumbass penalties, but if they can get that cleaned up, they have a good chance of winning the division.
