The Gruden Files - Year Two

Well, other than the last 2 minutes of the first half, when for some reason, Jay put on a pink tutu and turned into, Vagina Man. And the first 2 minutes of the second half, when he hinted at reverting to, We Should Pass Since we're Running So Well Man, He had a real good game. The plan going in was a good one. And this time, it was the Rams who didn't seem capable making adjustments.

The players made the plays. But kugo's to Jay, and the whole staff, for a real good game plan. I thought he had it in him. Now, he needs a 2nd one. This was his 1st.

From where I sit I continue to believe Gruden has neither the gravitas/maturity required to rank among the better/best HCs, but also that he is an individual wedded to his system...unable to creatively and flexibly adjust when circumstances dictate. This is one reason, IMO, so much of the decision authority has been diffused among so many coaches on this staff.

Just an opinion - but if the bell is ringing future success, the ultimate credit for shaping the vision and strategy as the architect of that success will fall upon McL.
 
Ridiculous. If this team becomes a winner, and Gruden is our head coach, he will deserve as much of the credit as anyone. The groceries are one thing, but preparing dinner is all coaching.

You are right, John. Totally. But as a cook yourself you know as well as anyone that some create something some new and awesome while others just follow the recipe in the book.
 
I give Gruden a shitton of credit for the win yesterday. The ghosts of Norv were blowing hard through the stadium yesterday in the 3rd. My dad was driving home from visiting us and I was talking with him while Mom drove keeping him updated as to what was happening. And he felt it through the phone - the lack of energy, the snowball rolling downhill, quicksand, whatever you want to call it, it was palpable. I don't know how much credit or blame is realistic to give to the head coach, but considering I blame the hell out of him for other things, I'm more than willing to assign credit to Jay for that turnaround yesterday. We could easily have been buried alive, but he pulled us out and called a great game while doing so.

Nice step forward, Gruden.

Recipe or not, at least some home cookin' is going on, still beats the heck out of the fast food/take out we're used to.
 
torn myself. been following this team for a long, long time. hate it when they lose.

on the flip side....I can't stand gruden. he's a fraud and second tier all the way.
 
Well, either winning is more important too you, or who is playing or coaching is. I don't care who is playing or who is coaching, as long as those doing it are doing it well.
 
The first two games are encouraging. Let's hold off on the letting go of Gruden talk for now. Gibbs had a very tough start early on. Beathard stuck with him. Maybe this is a repeat. Stay tuned.
 
No offense BB but Gibbs tough start was 0-5. He finished the season 8-8. Year 2 he won it all. Jay can only dream....

I'm well aware of the history and this current chapter has yet to be finished.

Gruden didn't have McCloughan his first year as Gibbs did with Beathard. Let's see what happens.
 
With each passing week, sources say, McCloughan and Gruden are starting to get closer and more respectful of one another's ability. The conversations about the quarterback position, no doubt, helped expedite the process. But the decisions that are helping to shape the culture of the organization have been the main reason for that.

Here's why players cared: Some believe Adam Hayward, the team's captain on special teams who tore his ACL in the preseason, never would have suffered his injury if Forbath had a leg strong enough to force a touchback and limit an unnecessary return. That might be harsh. But inside a locker room, protection from avoidable injury is paramount

Bit of a stretch on that one, might have some merit but we all know that anyone can get injured anytime doing most anything on the field during practice, in games, in the weight room, or off season (DHall)
 
Galette got injured on his way to the locker room after practice just walking!!

Funny little story. I manage people's money for a living. I'm nothing important. Literally, zero. But I do have two NFL players as clients. "3 years" is a refrain I hear over and over again.

From the tiny bit I've been exposed to these guys, they are a little paranoid, they aren't trusting......and they believe that they have 3 years to set their families up for the future.

If they believe that Forbath caused the injury, I'm really not surprised.
 
It might have helped contribute to it but it could have happened on the next punt return also
 
So, 2 out of the first 3 games, we've gotten last years version of the team. And last years version of a lousy head coach.

An ill prepared team.
With a lousy Plan A.
And no Plan B.

F for you, Jay. You got 10 days to wallow in it.

I disagree... the playcalling last night was good enough to win, the execution was not. Kirk had a bad game. Throws were behind receivers, Jones fumbles going in, and Plummer got run over to allow the blocked punt. The plays were there to be made, we flat out didn't make them. If you want to try to spin that to somehow Gruden didn't have his guys ready... I still disagree. At some point the guys on the field need to make the plays in front of them.
 
Brilliant move to use Alfred Morris so much. Since he's been our only consistent offensive player for 3yrs.

Oh wait. That didn't happen. Too busy playing with his new, unproven toy, Matt "Fumblia" Jones.

3 games in, you got 1 very good game. 1 less than inspiring game. And 1 WTF are you doing game.

Eagle game is a "must win convincingly" just to reach average for the 1st quarter of the season.

Morris couldn't get anything going. If you take away his 1 big run last week, he would have been 18 for 24. Morris shined in week 1, Jones in week 2. Jones was at least breaking through the line.
