3rd Annual Offical Tailgate Thread

First night at Jackson Lake in Grand Teton ... then at my bro's cabin north of W. Yellowstone (Hebgen Lake).

Wait. What?
Over the years I'd say I've been offered free tickets 50+ times. Good ones too.
I've never once taken them.

1. I don't like crowds of people.
2. I like crowds of drunk people even less.
3. I do not like drunk, mouthy fans of our team. Much less the opposing team.
4. I despise drunk, mouthy VaGiant and Philthy fans.
5. Drunk, mouthy Conboy fans make me consider spending some time in jail, acceptable.
6. I loathe traffic jams.
7. For games that matter, the risks of going to jail, the hospital, or the morgue, simply aren't worth it.
8. Preseason games don't matter. (except for injuries) Allows me to focus on anger management. :)

A man's got to know his limitations.

I feel you on most of that Ax. On the other hand, you'd be with your brothers - and that makes all the difference.

Don't know if we have enough guys who play golf to get out on Saturday for a full round (but that's obviously still an option), but Derek sent me a link to this place which looks like it might be a fun alternative.

Topgolf Alexandria: The Ultimate in Golf, Games, Food and Fun

In addition to having food and beverages, you can't rent out space for groups and their driving range has pits at different distances - balls are microchipped and they have a system that keeps score of best shots. You can even have competitions with trophies provided, etc...That might be a blast. If we are going to do something that Saturday like this, we would need to decide before long so someone can make arrangements... This place is 5 miles from where I grew up btw (not that anyone cares but me :))

That place is pretty awesome, and it's got a full service bar and TVs. If anyone is interested in playing who's not a full time golfer, they do rent clubs, and even for chunkers it can be a lot of fun. It's also only about 20 minutes from the hotel that quite a few people are going to be staying at.

There's also a new Top Golf which is almost completed in Ashburn off route 7 just west of route 28. Part of the new One Loudoun area. It's supposed to be open by September.

Top Golf is a great option. Beer, food, shiny stuff. :)

Let's plan on it. I'll handle the arrangements.

Awesome! Do we need to get a head count going? Who would be up a Saturday afternoon Top Golf get together?

It can spill over into the evening as well. Flashy lights and stuff.

Once we get an idea how many are in and where they'll be, we can pin down the facility and figure a time.

wanna fire up a new thread for this....?

Work can always throw a last minute curve, but barring that, I'm your Huckleberry.

Whatever you want to do ST...and Ax, I know I would not be the only one excited to get to meet the man, the myth, the legend in the flesh.

The top golf get together sounds good to me too. I should be able to make it.

My vote on location would be Ashburn. I've been watching the progress as they build it. It definitely catches your eye and curiosity. Seems something like a full sized video game.

Biggest hurdle to that location might be getting reservations, from what it sounds like ...

Hope to snag a driving bay after the ribbon is cut at Topgolf's Ashburn location? You may want to get in line. Like, soon.

Topgolf will open Sept. 3, and there’s still much to be done to ready the 65,000-square-foot facility, located on 13 acres of The Peterson Cos.' 205-acre Commonwealth Center, for the mad rush. And it will be a rush: Willie Wilson, Topgolf’s director of operations, said he expects wait times as long as four to five hours on the weekend.

and location.... Boone / Om are going to be in Quantico area, and a group of us are going to be at a hotel in proximity of the stadium. The Kingstown locatione was put out there because it's central. Ashburn would be an hour+ for Boone, as well as even longer for anyone staying at the hotel that night before the game

No problem. I was just throwing my preference out there. That's the one I've driven by quite a few times.

I created a Top Golf membership today and will plan to talk to the folks at the Alexandria facility about setting up an "Event" on that Saturday. They don't do reservations, but you can buy a "VIP" deal of some sort that guarantees you the first available bay after your scheduled time. On a Sat. evening there's likely to be a wait, so if they can give me some assurance we'll get a bay in a reasonable amount of time, it would definitely be the way to go.

That place is damn impressive... I've passed it multiple times on 7 and it's wild looking.... gonna be an absolute madhouse when it opens up haha.

Thought some of you might like to see what a vigorously fermenting home brew looks like. This one went in the carboy a little after midnight last night. This morning at 8 a.m. there was still no perceptible activity.

Came home from a ride at 2 pm and it was about to blow the lid off, had to quickly add a blowoff tube. The first few seconds of video are the blowoff bucket to give you an idea of how much gas the yeast is producing. The second but shows you how violently its fermenting in the carboy.
