Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2015 (Continual Updates)​

Here is our BGO members-centric mock for this week as we get closer to the draft. On Mondays, we will post mocks that have no trades. Wednesdays will feature mocks that have minimal trades. Thursdays will showcase a mock that centers on BGO member preferences. Fridays will feature mocks that have multiple trades.

Feel free to offer your own ideas about the draft, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects. Too, we’d like to see your mocks if you are so inclined.

Mock Draft, 2015​


Round One: Leonard Williams, DE/DT, Southern Cal
Here is your choice for the first round pick. Williams is, quite possibly, the best overall prospect in the draft. Due to other teams needing players at certain positions, the PAC 12 standout conveniently falls to the fifth pick. He is able to play any position on the defensive line, but will most likely be slotted as a DE. Williams is incredibly gifted with elite power, strength, explosiveness, and athleticism.

The ACC product is one of the best-rounded offensive linemen in the draft and could relegate Kory Lichtensteiger to a reserve role at guard or center.

Jackson holds his ground against the best defensive tackles and struggles a bit against pass rushing DEs. Thus, he is better on the inside and not projected to be an OT.

Here is your choice for the fourth round pick. The Redskins add a talented free safety from one of the better teams in the nation. The Big Ten Defensive Back Of The Year has good coverage skills and closes on receivers quickly. Drummond can cheat up a bit and disrupt the short passing game and cover tight ends with ease. He will have the luxury of sitting/learning in his first year, but could get some experience along the way.

Here is your choice for the fifth round pick. Looking to add depth at the defensive end position, the Redskins select an underrated player from the SEC. Eulls is the epitome of a hard worker and boasts excellent size for a 3-4 DE. Often takes on double teams to free up linemen and linebackers with a great degree of success. He is not the most talented of defensive linemen, just a consistent player who plays selflessly. The following video speaks not to his football skills, but his heart and dedication as a man.

Coming from Gator Nation, Garcia is a team favorite and leader who visits the weight room regularly. He more than held his own at the Senior Bowl against highly rated prospects Danny Shelton and Carl Davis. He could be a day one starter.

In fact, his superior blocking skillset is better than that of Logan Paulsen’s. Boyle could easily end the stay of the UCLA product.

Only recently has he fully healed and was able to impress at his pro day. The Redskins GM was at the workout to see the PAC 12 record setter perform in cold, rainy, raw conditions. Some would say that Halliday has the “it” factor that McCloughan covets and could be an absolute steal at this point in the draft.

If the Redskins are able to get both Williams and Erving this draft could turn out to be historic as the 1981 and 1983 drafts were.
 
I wouldn't classify the 83 draft as historic.

81 without a doubt. That one stands alone. By far. Nothing else was close. And, it's never been approached since.

83 was good because it produced HOF Green. And the steady Mann. Bryant gets a too brief honorable mention.

I'd rate 79 even with, maybe slightly above 83. With fewer picks, we got Warren, Coleman, and Milot. Warren and Coleman were major contributors to all 4 Super Bowls under Gibbs.

Mock Draft, 2015​

Round One:
Marcus Mariota slips to number five and the Redskins are suddenly in the middle of a lucrative bidding war. The Jets, Bears, Rams, Saints, Browns, and Eagles make offers. It comes down to the Bears and Browns. The Browns move up by trading their two first round picks, a third, fifth, and a 2016 third rounder.

Round One: La’el Collins, OT, LSU
This Cajun County Bayou Bengal is nothing short of impressive and in a draft that is full of quality tackles, he stands out as one of the best. Going against tough SEC competition, Collins made defenders look like high schoolers with pancaking and mashing at will. He is technically sound and can start right away. Comes with a high motor that never seems to quit.

The PAC 12 standout is solid in the running game and does an excellent job of jamming receivers at the line of scrimmage. As a tall and solidly built corner, Rowe has the ability to mirror a receiver that comes out of his release. He has a knack of forcing the ball from the receiver’s hands upon delivery. Rowe is a great tackler who can play zone or man to man. He also played safety for three years before making the switch to corner.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Tomlinson didn’t learn the game of football until he was a freshman in high school. Going to a program that had little success at football, the ACC stud was part of a strong offense that produced winning seasons, conference championship games, and major bowl considerations. The four year starter holds his own against bull rushers, athletic linebackers, and provides solid pass protection.

The Redskins had a private workout with Mbu and the interest in him is apparently very real. He has the size to shed blockers and often did so when excelling in the run defense. Not a pass rushing specialist, but was expected to occupy blockers and did so effectively against quality AAC competition. He could sub for Knighton at times when needed.

He has drawn comparisons to another Yellow Jacket alum – Calvin Johnson. Character issues forced a team suspension for two games at the beginning of 2014, but those issues are now behind him.

Your trade scenario with RG3 is interesting, then us drafting 2 QB's. Curious...who do you see or project being our starting QB is RG3 is sent packing?
 
I would do backflips for the first three rounds of this draft.

So solid. The first three rounds might be my favorite I've seen yet.
 
Weren't new sexual assault charges filed against Winston yesterday/today? Could change things quite a bit, if so.

Edit: Just saw that it was the accuser filing a lawsuit. The distraction of this might still make Tampa wary. And if a drop starts, who knows where it might end.

I sure as hell don't want him here.
 
This is nothing new or unexpected. It's lawyers trying to leverage their clients position by making this move at a advantagous and opportune time. This has been a money grab all along. This move will surprise no one, the least of which will be teams interested in JW.

I don't think so. Draft frenzy is upon us. It also wouldn't surprise me if McCune and company are trying to affect his draft stock, though that would be working against their ultimate goal.
 
Interesting scenario with the Griff trade but I don't see it happening. Unless he gets injured again I think RG3 starts all 16 games for the Skins this year.

Ultimately, I don't think a trade happens. These mocks are trying to cover what could happen under such circumstances. In other words, it is possible that a trade could happen. It's also highly unlikely.

Ok, on to an admission here...

I have been working on the latest mocks for this coming week since early this morning. Later in the afternoon (via twitter) it was discovered that I had made a horrible mistake over the last few mocks. In the trade with the Bucs (for Goldson) I had wrongly credited the Redskins with TB's seventh rounder for this draft. In fact, it is for 2016. It's my mistake only and I own it. My apologies and the forthcoming mocks will accurately be presented.

Ok, back to work for another hour or two. Hint: Major shifts and changes coming this week.
