Random Commanders Thoughts

I have a couple of friends in our Boston office and they are Pats fans. It seems they are defensive not when you mention spygate but when you mention they don't really have a signature SB win, all wins being decided by a field goal at the end......against some SB opponents in CAR and PHIL that were not that great. Now, THAT gets people going 😊

Bill has been involved in controversy from day one. He and the Pats were guilty of violating the rules when he was hired and the NFL penalized them with draft picks. From day one.

I'm not that down on him, but I don't put him in the same class as Shula. Never will. Let's see if Pats will win without Brady in the future. The HOF QB does happen to make a difference to a coaches career. Fan62 says that its the organizational structure that won all those conf. championshipos and SB's. Naught, it was Tom Brady.

I didn't say it wasn't a major talking point, but it's not the only talking point. It takes more than a great QB to do what any of the coaches in this discussion were able to do. And my position is less about denigrating Gibbs and more about those minimizing a guy like Belichick's accomplishments.

I can't argue that Bill isn't a great coach and I wasn't trying to do that. He is and he will be in the Hall of Fame. No doubt about that. I also think he and Gibbs have a lot in common. Neither are flashy or "high profile" guys. Both are very hard working. Both are/were very respected and even a little feared by their players.

However, I think the point about Gibbs and his 3 different QB/RB combos on those teams is that no one else has done that. Ever. And that isn't taking away from Belichick so much as it is giving to Gibbs. As it should be.

For that matter, Gibbs won his 3 titles over the course of 11 years with composition of the 1st and last teams being almost totally different. No one else has done that either. Everyone else with multiple titles has done it with the same key, core guys in place for them all. Even Parsells, who is the only other guy to win with more than one QB. Now, if the Pats win it all this year, Belichick will have done what Gibbs did in this manner by winning with two teams after nearly 100% turn over.

For me the thing that separates Belichick from most is his ability to field a competitive team with his starters or his backups, the team is prepared. They make significant adjustments from one team to the next. This week they won running the ball and Defense because that's what was needed to keep Luck on the bench. Who knows what we will see against Seattle? I'm betting he will test Sherman early and often.

The best move made during the season was Bellichick picking up LeGarrette Blount again for the $100 waiver fee.

The Colts and a number of other teams with tepid ground games could have used the veteran.

Funny that you say this because I don't see him as arrogant. For him it's another day at the office doing his job. I have never seen him gloat or get excited over a win like Carroll or Harbaugh. He is steady and even keeled.

Oh I def see him as one of the smuggest coaches of all time. IMO he makes Rex Ryan seem like a kitten. Tho Bellishit doesn't run his mouth or show his emotion in antics, he and his players wreak of arrogance. I understand that there isn't a rule per say to running up a score on an opponent, or finding & exploiting an overlooked section in the official rule book, that he's extremely good at.

It is just my opinion of course but the guy has a legit poker face that hides his pride very well. I view him as well as extremely smug individuals as assholes. He's within his rights to be that way just as I am to dislike him and his like.

Idk, possible he may be a demon in disguise

The deflated football controversy again nets the Pats doubt about their playing within the rules.

Bellichick is like George Allen, he will take any advantage to win.

The deflated football controversy is nothing but jealousy and sour grapes from the Colts and their local beat guys.

Everybody accused Madden and his Raiders of doing the same thing, cause they won.

Red Auerbach got accused of everything because his teams won.

In NASCAR, 1985 to be exact, Bill Elliott got accused of everything, because he won.

Just human nature. "There's no way that guy/team is that good. They have to be cheating"

Playground BS...

He could also be a big teddy bear behind that poker face. The point is that we think we know but we don't know. Not really.

He very well could be in the playbook. But you don't study 24 hours a day and it is the offseason. He's not a robot.

I understand your viewpoint, I just have to disagree. He needs to STFU and get his job done...in my humble opinion. There is not a single QB in the NFL that carries as much drama off the field as this guy...not even Jay Cutler.

The winners...QB's who go to the playoffs and perform well, don't spend their time announcing on twitter that they have a big announcement the following day.

Now you're out of your mind if you don't think jay cutler is more of a problem than Griffin. That dude is a legitimate coach killer.

Griffin did stfu during the season after he was benched. But the season is over. He's not even with coaches right now...how long can you study per day without taking a break?

Like I said, we will not agree so I am not going in circles with you. He refrained...yes, but he needs to simply delete the twitter account and stop seeking approval from the twitterverse and do his job. When he is winning games and becoming the QB he was brought in to be...tweet away! Until then, I think he needs to shut the **** up.

But why? He doesn't get in trouble, he doesn't say controversial things, he doesn't call out people or degrade his team. He just simply rubs you the wrong way. If I had to stop everything I did when someone didn't like it I'd be a bump on a log.

George siefert won 2 superbowls with 2 different QB

I don't see anything on his Twitter account about an announcement.

He must of either deleted it or simply let the local media know the announcement was coming. Twitter was ablaze with the info for about an hour this evening.

To be fair, he could have just made a passing comment - we all know how the media takes the slightest comment and runs with it like its national news...

I'm glad we all were made aware of his announcement, this is the only place I've heard of it.

Yeah, and I post images of my kid in passing, too. I don't buy it. Track record suggests otherwise.

But hell, it's the off-season...what else do I have to bash him for? :nana:
