Washington is close to getting a new general manager. Scot McCloughan, the former 49ers and Seahawks executive, is expected to be named the next G.M. in Washington. Although a league source tells PFT that the deal isn’t officially done yet, former Seahawk Michael Robinson wrote on Twitter that McCloughan told him he’s going to take…

This makes me happy. I'm excited about this. It makes me want to run naked thru the streets singing at the top of my lungs, HTTR. But, I'm still at work & that would probably cost me my job.

Maybe now we can move some of the deadwood off the roster, including failed former picks like LeRibeus, Thomas, Hankerson, etc.

It took three years to finally cut Aldrick Robinson, a guy you could see couldn't run consistent pass routes to save his life.

Hoping that Scot finds us more Garçons in Round 6 than Lache Seastrunks 😍

Maybe we should wait until a contract is actually signed.

Then, we can criticize every move he makes that we don't agree with.

Can he play racquetball?

I was criticizing the lack of accountability around here BEFORE the hire.

That dude who gives us the mock drafts each year in BBQ has another season of head scratching - as opposed to butt scratching.

I'm sure he will continue to do all the research and watch a ton of videos. For the second year in a row, trying to figure out a new strategy should be fun.

I wonder how much of this movement and capitulation by Snyder is due to Jerry's 12-4 season in Dallas.

The Redskins had to do something credible to get back in the chase in the NFC East.

It was funny the first 4 times...so there's that...

I'll take winning the off-season over not winning anything at all. This appears to be about the best move we could have made. We've been moving incrementally for most of a decade towards what fans have railed about for years, having a real football GM making football decisions in Ashburn.

Four questions raised by the Redskins? McCloughan hire | Rich Tandler's Real Redskins

Tandler. McCloughan reportedly is extremely buddy buddy with Jon Gruden (and I would imagine, by association, Jay). So I can't imagine there being coaching change anytime soon. I think he'll embrace Gruden's position on Griffin too - which is essentially 'win the job or don't - it's up to you'. McCloughan has a history of drafting a QB nearly every draft until he finds one that can play (such as a Russell Wilson). I think, unless you buy into conspiracy theories, the 3rd question is a silly one. You don't bring in a guy like this without empowering him to make all the calls. Now whether, if things don't start off exceedingly well, Snyder and Allen can continue to let him call the shots, that might be a legitimate question in a couple years. And I think the scouting/personnel side will definitely be rebuilt in his image. I don't see many of the current major scouts (including Scott Campbell himself) being around a year from now. If they were the right guys, we wouldn't be where we are. That may take a while to happen though.

I can honestly say if both sides go in with that attitude there shouldnt be ANY problems from player or fan. If Gruden gives him every opportunity to 'win the job or don't - it's up to you' and is honest about it we can walk away saying its on Gruden. If Griffin has every chance to 'win the job or don't - it's up to you' and doesn't I can't be mad at anyone but him.

I just really hope that is the deal.

Not just that, but asses in the seats.

The most damning statement in this whole thing is the last one about our scouting department being one of the smallest in the league. WTH? This has been a "spare no expense" operation ever since The Danny took over.

ST told me that Lipatu was one of his picks and he is a FA this year. That could bode well, as well.

Davis is a MD boy....THAT could be OK, but do we need 2 stud TEs?

Yeah but just think of the 2 TE sets we could run!

mhmm...because we did that SO much with Reed and Paul or Reed and Paulsen or Paul and Paulsen.

lol....we need a blocking TE before we need another pass catching one, IMO.

The hiring of Gibbs, the hiring of Shanahan, the firing of Cerrato/hire of Allen, the trading of a boatload of picks to draft the sexy college QB...Snyder seems to have a knack for knowing when morale among the fan base is at an extreme low and he needs to do something big to save face and buy time.

In this instance though, provided McCloughan and McCloughan only is in charge, I have to give him credit where credit is due. This is the type of move that is characteristic of the professionalism you would expect from the upper echelon teams in the league.

At the end of the day, it's still a results based business.

Breaking the cycle of a losing culture is difficult. McCloughan will have his hands full and he will certainly need to ensure he doesn't fall into the same trap that so many who have walked through the doors of Redskins Park have done before - that is, underachieving.

Thankfully, he's got a solid track record going for him.
