At this point, bring in McCloughan and let him run the show. Guy got some demons, but at this point, who cares. Move BA to VP of something not personnel related. Keep AJ out in California if you want in a consultant role. I would leave that up to McCloughan.

But, we are the skins so we will end up with Scott being promoted to continue the misery.

McGloughlan's record is impressive. The guy knows how to scout talent. As long as his voice carries more weight than Bruce's during decision time, I'm happy with this.

The difference here is that this is not a "quick fix" kind of maneuver. This is a move that honestly looks like they are truly tired of being the laughing stock of the League & are bring real football people in to right the ship.

And honestly, if they bring in McCloughan AND AJ Smith, who cares what Bruce Allen's role is? They can put him in charge of charitable foundations & mowing the lawn every Tuesday for all I care. As long as they actually start moving in the right direction as far as football operations are concerned, Bruce Allen's role is irrelevant.

I agree GCR.. This doesn't sound familiar to me. In fact it's about as different as a move as we've seen. Vinny re-hire and Bruce are completely different then courting a guy who has taken 2 teams (Seattle/San Fran) to the mountain top, and been an impact in taking a 3rd (Packers). I read the article by ESPN and the guy breathes and lives football. I'm really liking the possibility of McCloughan coming here... and him bein Irish don't hurt

I like it. I really like it. I think the article speaks volumes when it reads that Snyder listens to the fans & I think sometimes, he listens to the wrong sides. But until I see otherwise, I think this is the right move & having both these guys in the scouting dept. & in the War Room come Draft day is huge.

I will always be an optimist as far as...well, in everything. The Redskins are no different. I will always hope for the best & believe that they are trying to do whatever they can to go the right direction. It is tragic that it so far has not happened. But now...even now, after all the heartache & misery, I sit here, looking at this situation & reading these articles & believing....hoping against hope that Snyder makes the right decision here & gets this guy on the payroll. And if not him, then someone like him who knows how to build a winning franchise. Get 2 or 3 guys like him. But to me, this is the direction they need to go. Not another coach or player. Not a new name or facility. But FO guys who can evaluate talent like noboody's business. I am optimistic, yes. That doesn't mean my expectations are suddenly that of an over-zealous fan who believes that this means Super Bowl in the next 2 seasons. It means to me that we will at least start to look like a functioning NFL franchise who can & will be competitive in this league in the next few years.

I'm with you brother. Teams take time to build. Each year there is the jump from the bottom surprise, but I'm more interested in being in the conversation every season. More and more I've come to wrap my head around the fact that it's a fundamental problem with the franchise and not a field of play decision that will make the difference. Maybe I'm falling back into 'hopeful Skins' fan" mode again, but this does feel a lot different.

This isnt a Snyder move this is all Bruce. Snyder ultimately bought off on it but this is all Bruce's doing.

My favorite thing about all this is not the AJ Smith's or the Scot Mcloughan's... it's the fact that they're actually looking to do something about the Front Office with legitimate football people.

When has that ever happened during Snyder's ownership? He got Casserly out and then it's been nothing but poor decisions there. Either someone who's been out of football and stinks at it (Vinny Cerrato) or someone who's been out of football and isn't a personnel guy (Allen) or a coach taking total control (Shotty, Gibbs, Shanahan) which almost never works. All the while, Dan has been heavily involved in the background, sometimes openly and more recently inconspicuously.

So it's nice to see they're actually targeting people who would make sense being in a Front Office.


But that's as far as I'll go for now in terms of being pleased. It's all about the execution. I want to see a guy like Scot actually be given his proper title, GM, and it be known he's making the personnel decisions, period. I don't want any wishy washy crap. I'm tired of our FO structure making no sense, having no clear vision and lacking accountability since no one seems to know or admit who is doing what. Titles mean next to nothing. The fact that Allen had the audacity to say something to the effect of "Campbell's boards are great, you should see them, they're excellent... it's not him", I mean... what does that even mean?

It's like a game of hot potatoes when it comes to FO accountability. It's not Scott, but it's not me, but it's not Jay, but it's not Snyder, but it's not Santos, but it's not Doug Williams... yeah, yeah, we came to a "Redskins decision". Well, it looks like that process is a massive failure and "Redskins decision" is synonymous with "bad decision".

I want the guy everyone knows is the best damn talent evaluator in the building with the GM title calling the shots. That would, you know, make some sense.

So I'm excited that they're looking at those guys... now let's see if they actually execute.

I'm willing to see how it plays out, but all of a sudden we might have 3 GMs and an owner with a big ego. Does it look like a recipe for disaster? Yes, yes it does.

But, right now I'm willing to try anything to infuse some ACCOUNTABILITY into our personnel decisions. Though, the lines of decision making better be some very explicit ground rules or we're set up for more drama in the FO...just a different cast.

And, when a dispute happens, who do you think is going to have the final say?

We don't yet know in what capacity the Redskins are even talking to these guys. They could be be offering AJ Smith the GM & McCloughan the top scouting position, especially due to his past. They might want to ease McCloughan in slow to the position, if in fact, they are working toward him being the GM. All we really know right now is that the Redskins have been reaching out to these guys. We have done much speculating as to what role they will play.

And I would think Gruden would be ecstatic about this. Having someone over him who knows what they are doing? That'll make his job that much easier.

That would be a hell of a good move too. Bring in Smith at GM, give McCloughan top Scout/Asst GM, and let them work. Smith is in his 60s so he's not going to be around forever. McCloughan is 43... 43! Let Smith be the GM for 3 years, let McCloughan know that the GM spot is his when Smith decides to turn it in, and build a team. I read where a lot of McCloughan's demons hit him when he was a GM because he had to fire friends, and take on more then he was ready for. His passion is scouting. He still scouts players from his couch, freelancing for teams. I could see him wanting to transition into it instead of walking in with the keys to the franchise.
