Random Commanders Thoughts

So I'm watching the Bengals and Colts fight it out and the game seems, to me, different from the Steelers/Ravens game. It looks more like a textbook demonstration of tactical NFL football as opposed to what I described as a "street fight" going on betwen the Ravens and Steelers.

O.K., this got me thinking about something about watching the Redskins play that has ben bothering me for some time, watching other, usually more successful teams. Something was different, something was lacking, something I wasn't seeing in the Skins that I was seeing with other teams and I have been having a hard time putting my finger on exactly what it was. It was what I saw in the Ravens/Stelers game that made it a pretty exciting game, IMO, and more fun to watch than what's going on in the Bengals/Colts tilt.

Granted this is just my impressions, my perceptions and reactions here but what I think I mean is energy. The Ravens and Steelers were going after each other with a vengance, a no-holds-barred exertion of effort on every play, every effort a full-on full speed attack.

This, I think, is what I don't see with the Redskins-oh, maybe there are occasional flashes here and there but not the going-all-out I sensed in Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

While I was ruminating about all this someone popped into my head.

Sean Taylor.

In addition to his monumental athleticism, Sean played with an aggressive level of energy, a "I'm going to take you down and strip the damn ball out of your hands no matter what you do" attacking players like they'd just slapped him in the face. I saw that in the way the Ravens and Steelers played yesterday. I'm not seeing it in the Colts/Bengals game today.

I haven't been seeing it with the Redskins and I think that's what bothers me more than anything else when I watch other teams play

They don't just play better than we do they look better than we do.

I want that to change.

Neither winning team yesterday had 1st round pick starting on the Oline.

Both left tackles were UDFA's

Not surprising....they don't have Chris Foerster as their line coach.

The guy plants drafted linemen on the bench in favor of vets like Chester , who gets pushed around like a Safeway buggy.

It took what? 3 years to get Tom Compton on the field? While the Patriots 4th rounder starts at center in his first year.

Dude needs to be the next guy axed.

I think all of that starts with guys knowing their job. ST was a phenom without a doubt. I think his role was "go out there & kill...and bring us the ball back!" & he could do that better than anyone on the field. He knew his job also because Gregg Williams is way better at his job than Haslett is. But Haz used injuries as his crutch, his excuse for why the defense performed poorly when we can see around the League that other teams are capable of making it work, even in the midst of all the injuries. Our defense was lost. Their energy was consumed by trying to figure out where they were supposed to be from one play to the next. When you know your job, you can focus on what you are doing. When you don't, you are hesitant. That's how I saw it.

This is the wild card rounds let's compare notes during the preseason. Teams with shoddy defenses don't usually go past the first round. I believe it to be next to impossible to develop a franchise Qb with a bad defense and a sub par Oline. Do you disagree? Dallas is loaded across the board with 1st round talent on the Oline and they made quite a turnaround in one year. I hope it's a copy cat move on our part during the off season. I thought Moses was going to be our guy at RT. That never came to pass...I believe that altered our development.

I'd imagine if Compton had played 3 years ago he probably would not be on the team
the problem with this team ever since Marty left has been depth we have never had good depth what we did was get a couple of flashy players every year or so bit cut our depth and homegrown players
hopefully that issue is solved. Yes it will be painful for another season but I think year 3 we will be pretty solid and contend for a playoff spot. We need to be patient a few more years and build this the correct way

And I'd imagine if a guy like Hanifan or Bugel had been coaching him, it wouldn't have taken three yrs for him to see the field.

Agree to disagree.

Rappaport on Twitter is saying we reached out to Scot McCloughan. Grain of salt and all... if true, we're not settling and might be doing things the right way.

Instead of looking at the exceptions why not look at the pattern?

Left tackle is a premium spot that is hard to fill. Teams usually invest more here than inside at guard or center.

While Joe Jacoby was not drafted the other pro bowl Redskins tackles, Jim Lachey, Chris Samuels and now Trent Williams were all first round picks.

Seattle, Dallas, and Denver are all starting first rounders at LT.

Even though he has been moved around Bryan Bulaga was also drafted in Round 1 as a LT by the Packers.

My point in recounting this is to say that rather than looking for the quick 'miracle' undrafted free agent or unknown to star, how about just counting on the team to stay where they are in the draft and get quality prospects?

I know it sounds boring and isn't the same conversation starter that trading the #5 pick and moving down to select additional players in Round 2 or 3 is.

But the teams that seemto be there on a regular basis come playoff time do just that.

So, he gets the interview and then tells the Redskins to jettison Griifin? 😳

If the guy is as 'smart' as everyone is postulating and he jettisons Griff then he'd have a better plan in mind.
So be it.

is there a link or some kind of quote that says he plans to come in and get rid of Griffin?

Just curious what kind of hysteria is going on here.

he may have a plan...but the issue is having resources.

I personally don't care at this point how it plays out....just interested in the logic/constraints/assumptions of the decision process.

Wasn't this the guy who drafted Russell Wilson? Why would he shitcan Griffin?
