Random Commanders Thoughts

I say this not for "I told you" but for the simple fact that we need to see the reality of the situation we face. RG3 is not that good without a scheme to fit his abilities. The experiment is almost over.

I know the team is bad...but so is Griffin. He does nothing to make us better...nothing.
 
I could handle losing to Tampa....after all I've been trained into submission on that over the years. It's just the way we do it that grates on me. We need to at least be competitive.
 
That game was just awful. Griffin, bad. O-Line, worse. Niles Paul, ridiculous. Leonard Hankerson, why are you even on the field. Roy Helu, one good play, two poor plays. Fumbles, penalties, QB getting no time, then getting time and holding on too long, missed passes, blown coverage. You know it's bad when one of your best plays is when Morris has to avoid 3 tackles 6 yards in the backfield and then gets a huge gain. Only to be followed by penalties, sacks, and a missed FG (more ranting on that later).

Why is Ryan Clark playing? He gets burnt deep on a cover two, when his job is to not get burnt deep. Then he runs up to cover an RB at the line of scrimmage who is already covered, leaving the deep part of the field open and Perry Riley covering a WR who no one else has covered all day. I am curious to hear what the coverage was supposed to be on that play, because I have no idea what Clark is doing and having an LB on a WR with no help deep cannot be the design of the coverage.

Kai Forbath, really? Two missed FGs and not even close on either. To think that as bad as they played, this game should have been 13-13 in the 3rd quarter.

This is a painful loss against a bad team. The team clearly has no confidence, and if you can't get it against a bad Bucs team, where will it come from?
 
I am not sure where I land on Griffin. He gets almost zero help (look at his two 'interceptions', both of which were tipped passes but he'll get the blame for them). On the other hand, he misses huge opportunities - overthrowing a wide-open Jackson twice for sure fire TDs for example. I think his shakiness currently is a combination of factors. Lack of help for starters - both in terms of tipped balls, fumbles, and lack of protection. I also think he's trying to adopt his play to what Gruden wants and leads to some awkward 'what do I do' moments where his instincts are telling him to take off and his brain is telling him to run the play the way Gruden wants. And I think there's significant rust still showing. He's only played a couple live games this year and it shows.

I'm not ready to write him off. Get him some damn protection for starters and see what that does for him. But he isn't shining, that's for sure.

He should get zero blame for the first INT. Paul almost handed that ball to the defender. I'm not sure how much blame he gets for the 2nd, but a football guru can probably dissect it and point out where he failed. I know the announcer said he started down the WR, but if you look at any QB throwing a quick slant, that's what you do.

I agree with you on him looking like he is thinking too much at times. One time during this game, he was standing in the pocket, he looked at two or three WRs, saw no one open, and he literally jumped up and down twice, before throwing his pass. Other times, you can tell he is holding the ball too long trying to find someone because he has been told to survey the field. It's a shame because they aren't using all his tools. Did they have any roll out passes? The only one I remember was the play where they faked an option and he rolled to complete a pass for a few yards. Why are they not moving the pocket and moving him?
 
I have to agree with Boone. Most of the game, the moment the ball is snapped, the O line is pushed back around him leaving him no chance of even scrambling out of it. Not saying Robert is not part of the problem, but some sort of pass protection would go a long way.

Oh, I may drive to the DC area tomorrow, find Haz, and kick him square in the nuts. He wants to give the corners help by only rushing 4, yet the help over the top sucks... never wanted Clark, and Porter didn't do much to help his case for playing time. So we rush 4, and watch a confused secondary while the QB has a friggin month to throw the ball.

He deserves more then a kick in the nuts, but the holiday season is right around the corner, so I'm being nice.....
 
Our line is so bad that Morris is getting hit in the backfield like Sanders used to in Detroit. Griffin is holding the ball "too long" but he's getting hit or pressured immediately and nothing is developing for him to do anything. If he threw it away all the time people would complain about that.
 
Jon Gruden was right, his brother has a rebuild on his hands.

This team not only needs more talent, it needs more heart.

You have TWO WEEKS to prepare for a 1-8 team at HOME and 7-27 is the best you can come up with? :mad:

The Redskins didn't look prepared to play this game from the opening kickoff. Offsides penalties on wide receivers and tight ends, inaccurate throws by the quarterback that resulted in deflection interception gifts for the Bucs. And a coaching staff game plan that seemed to be sniffed out by the Bucs' coaches on both sides of the ball.

According to the Post, Gruden and Co. reviewed their schemes and prep from the first 9 weeks to get ready for Tampa, getting rid of plays or looks that weren't working and putting in some additional wrinkles to keep things fresh.

Looks like that was a failure.

Win or lose, though, this team showed NO HEART or FIGHT at home in the second half. Down just 13-7 at the half after the long Helu touchdown to take into the dressing room as motivation, the Redskins instead of fighting back simply mailed in the last 30 minutes.

Whatever mojo this team had in beating Tennessee and then Dallas is gone now in consecutive disappointing losses.

Watching the outcomes of other games, the 29 point Vikings of Teddy Bridgewater were stoned in the second half by the 30th ranked Bears defense and lost 13-21.

But against the Redskins these guys looked like world-beaters.

Just par for the course.

Leadership? I don't see it on this team right now. You can't control bad breaks, or a lack of talent at a particular spot, but you CAN control how hard you play and how focused you are.

This team came out unfocused and unprepared.
 
Yeah. Listening to the broadcast, Sonny and Cooley came juuusssttttt short of calling out our guys for not having any heart, but you could tell they wanted to.

I'll forgive just about anything if there is fight and effort.

Another positive, for me, is that Green Bay is giving Philly an absolute lesson.

All NFC East teams either lost or had a bye, so nothing has really changed.

The next two weeks won't be pretty though.
 
For me personally, the Redskins have some competition for my time now with a 14 month old boy and 3 and a half year old boy.

Since I have an amazing wife, the Skins usually win my time on Sundays 99.5% of the time.

Today, for only the 2nd time that I can remember since I was 7 years old myself, I walked away before the end of the game. I chose playing cars with my son over watching my team get embarrassed to another laughingstock at home.

Life has thrown some great gifts my way to enjoy.

It's days like today that maybe start to question and say why.

It's days like today that make me wonder why I choose to bring frustration and disappointment into my life time and time again, when I have everything I need in terms of happiness surrounding me each and every day in my own home.
 
Evaluate mccoy? Really?

Mike..you gotta stop. Mccoy isn't a franchise anything regardless of what Griffin does.
 
Well then we need to decide if we're drafting one or trading for one. We arent't going to pay $19 million to extend RG3 for one season.....barring a complete 180.
 
Where did you get 19 million from?

Why do you think mccoy is suddenly going to be starter worthy? Dallas? We all know that game.

But, I digress. You're definitely not a Griffin fan so I know we won't see eye to eye. I'm just confused why you think mccoy is suddenly a starter.
 
I will just say that I think QB may be an issue, but there are far more pressing issues...including quality of coaching all the way to the top.
