WPC/BGO Coverage: 2010 Free Agency

Good morning! Anyone up, yet? Let's get Day 2 going. Can only be here 6 or 7 hours before get off for the day.

Let's see if Morton's Steakhouse sealed the deal last night.

Time for cup of coffee #3.

I'm just having my first cup :) I was tied up at work the past 2 days so thanks to John and everyone else for keeping us updated, even if we were strangely quiet for the most part. Maybe today brings a little more excitement ...

Hey everyone. We're going to start the day by monitoring from here. Almost everything I got yesterday was via telephone so this won't make much difference. If something starts to break I will keep everyone posted. And if something does break, I can make my way to Redskins Park.

Thanks. Will tell my wife no honey do's when get home cause need to keep in touch on breaking news.

If my wife has any heartburn will have call you, John. :)

Yup its day 2 and all I see is money being thrown around to players on other teams.

Nothing like a new era in Washington. :)

Nothing to report on Redskins 1. It is still parked at Dulles.

I had a nasty virus strike my computer last night just before signing off. It was nearly 6 am before it could be resolved. But I'm ready to roll - let's see what today brings.

While Levi wasn't stellar last year, I thought he was adequate. He has trouble with speed rushers but played OK otherwise. At this point, I think he's definitely worth re-signing.

And we are off and running! Ok, walking at a brisk pace. Well ok, crawling along - but it is a start!

Maese, PFT, RI, etc. are now saying there is no Pashos deal and he is on his way to Cleveland.

Team makes Hicks' signing official:

REDSKINS SIGN ARTIS HICKS

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed free agent guard Artis Hicks. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hicks (6-4, 335) has played in 94 career games with 58 starts in an eight-year career with the Minnesota Vikings (2006-2009) and the Philadelphia Eagles (2002-05). During that time he has been part of five division-winning clubs (Philadelphia 2002-04, Minnesota 2008-08).

Hicks, 31, played in a career-best 16 games with three starts for the Vikings in 2009 as they finished fourth in the National Football League in total offense and advanced to the NFC Championship Game. Overall, Hicks played in 56 games with 27 starts with the Vikings and was part of an offense that was fourth in the NFL in rushing over the past four seasons.

Hicks, 31, was a member of the Vikings' offensive line that paved the way for Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson to rush for three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (2007-09), including a career-best 1,760 rushing yards on 363 carries (4.8 ypg) in 2008. Hicks also helped Vikings running back Chester Taylor to rush for a career-high 1,216 yards in 2006.

Prior to joining the Vikings, Hicks began his career as a member of the Eagles and played in 38 career games with 31 starts. Hicks started at left guard in 14 games with the Eagles in 2004 as they advanced to Super Bowl XXXIX against the New England Patriots.

Hicks originally entered the NFL with the Eagles in 2002 as a college free agent from Memphis. Born on Nov. 28, 1978, Hicks is a native of Jackson, Tenn.

I'm glad that the first signing is an OL player, looks like they are addressing areas of need and not chasing the next big name. I think in the next couple of years we could be very competitive in the NFC again. Its been a long time coming.
