Random Commanders Thoughts

3-5 ain't the point. And nowhere have I said "rush him".

"If he's ready" includes EVERYTHING.

He needs playing time.

Those were two separate thoughts that you combined into one and reacted to... The return button was used I should have maybe quoted someone. Simmer down.

Frankly, if Murphy can be a competent run stopper, we won't miss Rak at all.

The pukes weren't going to be scared of a guy who had half a sack so far this season.

I seriously doubt that the Pokers are scared about anything our defense has to offer.

If Murphy shows well then good, maybe then we can see some value in drafting a guy tagged as role player for this year, who is still transitioning into a position and the NFL, eventually becoming a rotational starter with development.

If he sputters and Kerrigan gets stuffed mercilessly then perhaps we will admittedly miss Rak and what he had to offer.

We've seen Kerrigan be effective without Rak on the field. Rob Jackson didnt exactly strike enough fear to open up Kerrigan on the other side. Kerrigan has produced regardless of who was on the other side of the field.

I was answering two different posts. Figured each would know which.

And fear not, I've never simmered up. Nothing to simmer down.

It's not like McCoy won't have some fans at Jerry World. Without Dhall , Dez Bryant is going to eat our lunch...DHall was good at getting in his head... Romo is Romo if you make him play catch up instead of running. The Front 7 for Dallas has 5 sacks for the year that bodes well for our offense in my opinion. I think our only hope is a high scoring game. Our Defense will give up some big plays it's a given...We just need to score more.

So does RG3.
We're guaranteed to have a Texas product under center Monday, one way or another

He may be a rookie, but Breeland otherwise ain't a complete slouch.
He's a very physical corner, which is something very good to bring to the table, against a receiver like Bryant.
And then, Amerson has the height, so that's also a favorable factor if he covers Bryant

Well, we disagree. I think we could have cut bait and drafted Murphy. His pick would have made much more sense at that point. The failure was by over-valuing Rak. He wasn't worth the money, the franchise tag nor the drama.

Successful teams often part with guys who the fan base believes are still of value to the team. Andy Reid did it regularly while in Philly...without much detriment to the team. The Colts did it. New Orleans. I could go on.

When a guy comes to the Redskins and is deemed a 'star', he never leaves, whether he performs or not.

Rak is just another example of overpaying for low value. Letting emotion overrule football logic.

I think we try Murphy. If he doesn't work, then try Jeffcoat. We need to keep trying players out where we have glaring deficiencies. If they don't make it, then fine. But, Beathard believed trying younger guys was the key to getting better.

Look at how Compton has come in and pretty much replace Riley. It shouldn't have come to an injury to replace Riley.

And, don't get me started on Polumbus. :)

Well, we actually don't disagree as much as you think. I never wanted to keep Rak, and saw that we did as well, if not better without him on the field. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya is all I have to say to Rak. Problem is, the team saw he did have a very good season, and with the supposed "hands" being untied for Haz, it was a 50/50 chance that Rak could be that elite player this season he thinks he is. Again, I wanted to cut bait, but I don't run the team, and Haz had to have him, and the way we kept him was about the only way short of overpaying even more then we did this year, and for multiple years no less. We weren't close in contracts talks when it came to the money.... he wants the megga payday, and we wanted a fair market value. How do you keep somebody in that situation... you tag them.

Jeffcoat will get his reps either way as Murph develops. Kid is gonna be a beast... a taller Kerrigan, with a motor that doesn't stop.

Rak has issues...no doubt about it. but be careful what you wish for. he has what...44 sacks over his career? pro bowl how many times? there is no doubt in my mind that...injuries notwithstanding and inability to rise to expectations...whomever we replace him with will be worse and this will become yet another need position for years.

Why would we ever replace anybody if we're scared to death about what we might get in return?

Nobody's afraid of replacing Polumbus but we're quaking in our boots with Rak?

Sometimes, the grass really is greener on the other side of the fence......

not to discredit the rest of what you say but the pro bowl is a joke. its a name recognition and that is about it. Antonio Gates once missed 12 games and made the pro bowl.

On the nosey...... Probowls are a popularity contest, and nothing more.

could be. but I do know this....until Murphy makes it....he's accomplished less than rak. there are obviously players who have earned their pro bowl spots - Sean Taylor comes to mind. anywho, your point is valid in many instances no doubt about it. I'm just asserting that while Rak hasn't scaled the highest heights....he is no slouch and we will...IMO.....be disappointed if we believe anyone on the current roster will be better or comparable. the argument about too much money shouldn't be ignored. it's just my belief that on a defense with problems.....Rak's disappearing will simply create one more hole we will spend several years attempting to patch.

not quaking......just acknowledging a couple thoughts: pass rushers don't grow on trees; this team's success at talent evaluation varies from average to all-world suckage.

Rak has 40 sacks in 4 seasons (not counting the year he basically missed the entire season). that's not hall of fame - but it's not bad either. Kerrigan will need 9 more this season to have a comparable number over 4 seasons. not belittling kerrigan. he has made plays in other areas (e.g., ints) that orakpo has not managed.

I understand the money argument. the flip side is this - IMO yet another position becomes weaker....and who has confidence this GM/personnel dept will use the money wisely? seems to me we have a different problem brewing here: Allen staffed management with a bunch of yes men. but Allen isn't very capable as a GM. we'll see.

you know....rak may come pretty cheap next season. but...with yet another pec tear...he simply may not be reliable enough. trade or release or reliability....still leaves us with a hole. yes...my argument is based on a thus far unimpressive performance by murphy. that can always change.

.5 sacks can't really disappear when it was never there to begin with. I don't know what the pro bowl has to do with production or accomplishments when we've agreed it's just a name draw that gets you in.

Murphy is a rookie. He's doing well for being a rookie. I'm not going to try and compare him to anyone but a rookie who is in the same position as him.

Well, there is this one guy who Rob Jackson strikes fear into:

I haven't agreed to anything. the observation is patently false if presented as a universal. there are players who make the pro bowl who deserve it. there are those who get in based on popularity contests.

we'll have to disagree on murphy. I wasn't impressed one iota. IMO he is...to this point...an under-performaing second round pick. there were multiple plays during preseason I saw him...in space...being controlled by blockers. I didn't see a player with strength against the run and I didn't see a speed player able to rush the passer before the line set. hope I'm wrong and it is...as others believe...a matter of simple playing time. more than happy to eat my words downstream. until then.....haven't seen much when he has played, haven't heard other players raving about him, haven't seen the raw athletic talent that makes me think it's around the corner.
