Body Bag II

Well, to be fair El, you are totally ignoring the question he's asking over and over again. The rule is oddly stated. He's not imagining that. I think the conversation will be over once someone answers his question - why are there 'stipulations' defining what constitutes a foul on a defenseless player if ALL contact is considered a foul?

You aren't answering the question - you may think you are - but you aren't :)

Just trying to understand a rule, friend. I don't believe its as clear as you believe or the unanswered questions around part b that I have posted multiple times would have clear answers. The silence around them is somewhat confusing.

I'll bow out too though, its circles at this point it seems.

Ahh...I get the distinction SS is making now. That is a good question. I admit, I've gotten totally confused reading the back and forth.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst, I'd say the hit on Kirk, was a 3 or 4.

Baker on Foles was a heavy 10.

Apples and oranges.

For all the uproar over the little hit on Kirk, I think it's safe to say if Kirk would have gotten cheap-shotted like Foles was, some would be calling for the death penalty.

Foles was the one trying to get in on a tackle and should get hit like that 10 out of every 10 times he makes that decision.

We are talking about a football game, right?

I can imagine the belly aching going on around here if it had happened to Kirk.

It was an illegal cheapshot. Inexcusable, indefensible, and obvious.

I'm amazed at how much attention is being paid to it, really.

I disagree 100%. Kirk took a hard hit long after the whistle blew and we don't have a massively long thread about it.

I obviously don't see the two plays being on the same planet. Much less close in any way.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

No, you said that we would be talking endlessly had the roles been reversed. Well, they were and we don't have a dozen or more pages with talking about it.

Just saying.

They're not 'apologizers' tr1 - they just disagree. It's okay to disagree folks - really it is.

This is far too easy.

But it's not worth the risk.

Puppy dogs & cotton candy.

so...I couldn't watch the game today. looking at the boxscore two things are apparent: special teams came through again (2 out of 3 games now!) + the defense sucked. looked like the offense was operating on all cylinders.

close?

I'm still living in yesterday.

Explain "Special teams came through"...with a predictably bad performance? They were horrible yesterday, it's kind of surprising they didn't run back more than one on us.

With under 2 minutes left in the game, we had the ball on their 41 yard line, with the chance to win, or at least tie the game. While running down the clock, and forcing them to use up time outs. Regardless of anything that happened up to that point, that's where we were.

And that's where we lost the game. The offense, when we needed them most, failed to gain an inch, in 4 tries.

I put the loss on the D. Once again they were predictable in many ways and allowed another 30+ pt game. Awful hard to put the loss on the offense when they put up over 500 yards and 34 points. If our O didn't have such a huge TOP advantage in the first half this would have been an ugly loss, the D just couldn't stop their O at all.

Haslett...yay!

Every phase of the game is responsible, in some way, for contributing to the loss.

But again, after everything that took place, we were in it. The D got us the ball, and the Eagles special teams gifted it to us at their 41.

10 yards. Hell, even 5, might have given us a chance to tie.

Not an inch. Poor run blocking. Poor decision making. Poor throws. Poor everything, offensively, on that non-drive.

Well sure. On the last drive, the offense failed. Miserably even. But I think what others are saying is that cumulatively, more of the responsibility belongs to the D and ST.

I agree. NFL games are won and lost late in the fourth quarter. Think how different today would feel had we taken that 1st and ten at their 41, down 3, with time outs in hand ... and actually been the team to make the plays and win, instead of the one coming up small and spending the next few days talking about what could have been.

Lots of good stuff happened yesterday. Just not when it mattered most.

Oh, I get that G. And I really do understand the thinking. It's just not the way my mind usually works.

Example: I bowl anchor on my team. If my teammates have set me up with the chance to secure the win, and I fail, I always take 100% of the responsibility for the loss. Even if I've otherwise bowled my highest game. I failed when it mattered most.

So did our offense.

Beat The Giants!!!

You could make the same argument AGAINST the D by saying the Offense scored 34 points... that itself is setting up the team to win.

got it.

whether offense, defense or ST: coulda won....didn't have the will to win at key points.

defense looked good first two games. without seeing the game...I saw 37 put on us. take-away 7 for ST and it still seemed like the days of old. I don't buy the unstoppable Iggles O angle. other teams have done it.
