One play that changed everything...

I am concerned that when Robert returns, his confidence level will be shattered. It took him more than a year and a half to get that confidence back after the knee injury, what is this going to do to his psyche once he gets back on the field.

So, the question is, does it take him another year and half of on-the-field playing (post-rehab that is), to regain both his mental confidence, and physical form ? And would the team want to sacrifice that much more time, just to find out for sure if he's the franchise QB ?
If you've got Cousins, who can step in and not miss a beat, but RG3 takes a year's worth of games to recover physically and mentally, that totally changes the picture on the QB decision.

You won't get an argument from me. Of course we will see how this all works out, but I am convinced that Gruden can do with Cousins what he did with Andy Dalton. I think Cousins can be every bit as good as Dalton.

He injured his ankle on a freak sideline dive. What about that would do anything one way or the other to his confidence level? I don't see that being a major concern. Rust, coming back to quickly from injury, losing the momentum of the learning curve, and possibly a having a QB controversy if Cousins is playing well, are all more realistic concerns. He's not a fragile little china doll :)

I also think people, predictably, are reading a lot into a rare great day against a pretty bad team. I enjoyed the hell out of it - but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean much as a barometer of what's to come.

He said his ankle stuck....are we still having turf issues?

Boone, this guy finally had the same energy he had during his rookie year...an air of confidence he lacked all season last year and well into the pre-season. I will give him the benefit of the doubt for Houston...JJ Watt is a beast, but he came out of the gate today on fire, energy I had not seen in 2 years.

He is injured, possibly for the season for the 2nd time in 3 years. There simply is no denying that this creates concern about his health going forward. Are you saying we shouldn't consider he is injury prone? He planted his leg, our running backs do it all game long and don't dislocate ankles. Had it happened on contact I would be less concerned, but it didn't.

That makes 3 major injuries in 5 years with this kid. As fragile as his ego is, and you've admitted that, you honestly believe it is a reach to think his confidence will be broken and that it will take a long time to recover from this? I mean come on, there is a body of evidence to support my assertion.

And Mike, it had nothing to do with the turf...the turf is fine.

Good..We've had too many issues with it and injuring players. We don't need it now.

Fact: Cousins played extremely well against a weak NFL team. It is my hope that he continues to play well. No interceptions and he showed good poise.

I believe RG3's injury has nothing to do with confidence or lack there of. He was looking good before the injury happened. He will be back. Fortunate to have the back up we have. Need to be thankful for that. QB controversies are not always a bad thing. Time will tell on this issue.

Just heard via ESPN980 that Griff does not appear to have fractures, surgery most likely not needed.
A caveat, don't think MRI has been totally evaluated, more to come on the subject at 3:00 pm presser.
No timetable given for recovery but may not be season ending.

No one has confirmed one way or the other.

I thought they had the capability of at least performing and getting immediate results on X-Rays, in the locker room. If that's true, then why does it take so long just to determine he doesn't have bone fracture ?

I am an advocate of Robert, he has talents and tools that are freakish but I'm torn on his ability to stay healthy. This injury was totally one of those "ffs" moments no one could've predicted, no different then the ACL/MCL tears that happen when people are just running. However, the rule states "you can't win if you're not on the field." Cousins now has the chance to pull a Brady circa 01, but we'd be all foolish to think that beating the Jags was a coup d'etat. RG3 reignited this fan base, we often forget what the Zorn debacle was and Shanny's decision to try and utilize an aging McNabb, Grossman and Beck, he's earned the right to be our qb and earned our support. The caveat is that it doesn't mean he gets to keep the job forever if Cousin's shines. Robert reminds me of early Cunningham, an incredibly talented player who just couldn't get his body to sync up with his mind til years later and I hope I'm very very wrong in that assessment.

Because team doctors are smart. X-rays would show a gross obvious fracture but are not necessarily conclusive. What would be the benefit of them announcing initial x-ray results, other than to satisfy a fan's desire to know? They want to make sure they get it right before passing on that information.

Don't see your point in demanding instant results of such things but I assume that a total evaluation of the injury is to be made before officially releasing pertinent results of same, MRI looks to be the more revealing procedure leading to better diagnosis of the injury including soft tissue damage which XRay does not do.
The results of all of this stuff will come to light when the team is ready to release them, regardless of our desire of need to know.

Cousins is better at the moment, but RGIII has better long term upside.

I'm tired of hearing this. Mediots like to parrot this sentiment. Message boarders like to parrot this sentiment. Kirk Cousin is better right now, and that bodes well for him being better in the long run.

Nothing, proves that Griffin has a better chance of succeeding long term over Cousins. The best ability is availability. There I parrot things too. haha.

I like Griffin but I love winning. I feel dirty for wearing our NFCE champion hat that was a gift... I wan't consistency not flash in between injuries.

Then we have to surround Cousins with exceptional talent. Griff's talent can erase a lot of problems, imo. I don't think the decision between the two of them is an easy one at all, and I completely understand why people come down on the side of Cousins. I just think that Griff gives us a better chance to win, when he's healthy.

Cousins is already surrounded by exceptional talent.

D-Jax goes down? So what? Here comes Andre Roberts and Grant.

We're more stacked on talent than any season in at least 15 years.

Our secondary is about the only hole we have right now. And we'll fix it.

I don't think you'd need to parrot anyone to point out that Griffin's natural athletic ability and native intelligence, combined with the kind of rookie season that very few QB's have had, makes a strong case for him having near-unprecedented QB potential. Now, whether he can fulfill that potential is a question that remains to be answered, but it's there in abundance, and that potential is what I think Fred's referring to. The fact that lots of people are saying it doesn't make it less true.

Now, you're right that that doesn't "prove" that RG3 will turn out the better QB, but in 2012 Griffin won 10 games essentially before he'd even learned the position. I'd hate to have to make the case that Cousins would have accomplished that, or that that performance is somehow irrelevant to his "up side".

We'll differ on this until the end. Potential doesn't mean squat if you can't make the club from the tub. You can't tell me with certainty who will will tonight, Thursday night, next Sunday or next week. Chances are though, those players who are there to play the game have the most "upside. "
