This isn't about "hindsight". I didn't like the pick then, and I don't like the pick now.
And it's just becoming painfully more obvious, as all the circumstances continue to play out.
For our all-important top pick, we could have taken a starter to fill our weakest position, but instead we pick a backup at one of our strongest positions.
Also, the idea that Morgan Moses wasn't worthy of a 2nd round pick, is not relevant. That implies that he was the best and only possibly OT available at the time.
That wasn't the case.
Four OT's were taken in the 2nd round, that we could have picked.
One of them immediately became the starter at RT for the world champions - Justin Britt.
If Justin Britt was good enough to win the job at Seattle, and protect Russell Wilson, he most definitely could have handily beat out Polumbus. Why wasn't this guy even on our radar ? Why were we so tunnel-visioned on Moses, as if he was the only option ?
Last Thursday, in his first ever pro game, and on national television, Britt went up against the likes of Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers, and fared admirably. He allowed no sacks, and was a big reason why they rushed for 207 yards.
He started 36 games in the SEC, so it should have been no secret who this guy was. He's supposed to be an ornery guy, with a solid character, and was also a state heavyweight wrestling champion in high school. Sounds like the perfect guy to play RT for us, if only our scouts did a little homework.
I'm just not buying the logic that we just HAD to spend our top pick on the possibility that we may need to replace Orakpo a year from now.
Why wasn't Britt ever even in the conversation - a guy who dominated pro-bowlers as a Seahawk in his first game, playing at our position of greatest need, rather than Murphy (or Moses), guys who didnt even see the field in their first game, and who knows if or when they will ?
So, not only did we hurt ourselves with those picks, and lack of pick, but we also helped our arch rivals. If that's what you call picking BPA, over drafting for "need", well then that's when BPA goes horribly wrong.
That is all for now. Just had to get this off my chest.
