Random Commanders Thoughts

Someone on Twitter made a good point. If they can give Merriweather a 2 game suspension for a hit in a pre-season game, why doesn't the next pre-season game count as one of the 'suspension' games?

In other words, pre-season game play either 'counts' or it doesn't.

24/7 sportstalk radio, and internet message boards, have changed fandom for the worst.

Social media is a better descriptor. I was on Twitter this afternoon for 30 minutes, and a couple times, if I could've reached through the screen and slapped the shit out of some people, I would have.

Folks,

This suspension is merely a pebble on the tracks of the Pain Train. A pebble that is crushed on impact. The Dark Side claws and scratches for any excuse to slow this Train down. Not happenin'. They will recognize their imminent doom and try to repent, but it shall be too late, for the Train does not forgive and shall lay its vengeance upon them. New era. New legacy. February 1st, 2015...Glendale, Arizona...the Train will finally rest. The haters dine on crow.

It makes sense because you're just as likely to severely injure someone in a preseason game, as you are in a regular season game, with a helmet hit.
And if they included preseason games in suspensions, it would make matters even worse, because players would be even more likely to hit with the helmet, knowing a "preseason suspension" won't amount to much anyway, so they're then going to be more likely to severely mess up someone's noggin

Yup. Nobody has any patience. The bolder the opinion, the higher the draw. Never-mind the fact that the talking heads rarely admit they're wrong. They bash the Skins and RG3 because many a pathetic man child needs confirmation that their biases are correct. People love tuning in to confirmation bias. It makes their inner little man swell with a pathetic sort of pride.

Preseason games count...to ownership. Don't season ticket holders pay full price for those tickets?

RGIII has been a second behind the whole preseason in reading and deciding...you can see it. no idea why. it can be fixed.

better pass blocking might help expedite the transition to pocket passer.

Dang, a lot of sensitive Raven fans out there. In Ray Rice's defense it's not like he killed somebody...

All hypothetical, of course. We want an Aaron Rodgers or Steve Young, but what if it appears he'll never approach that?

If Gruden wanted a Steve Young type out of RG3 then he'd let him run. I've got alot of old game torrents and I've recently watched a few of Youngs first games in 1987-1988 in SF and he literally ran around on 90% of the plays but also made a ton of plays, just like RG3 did in 2012 but without the pistol/read option of course. Young did seem to be better at scrambling and finding receivers which RG3 never really does but watching him it's almost exactly what we saw from RG3 and that dude was fast too.

Of course it did take Young 4-5 years in SF as a backup to develop into a qb that could complete more than 55% of his passes and eventually he got it up to 70% but Jerry Rice and crew probably helped a little.

I hope they are working on RG3 scrambling while looking downfield because he's going to run around by instinct and shouldn't be just bolting for yards when theres literally 3-4 receivers standing there open when the defenders start going after him.

I don't see why they would suspend a player for real games for doing something wrong at what is basically PRACTICE. Pretty soon teams won't even play their known starters just to be sure this doesn't happen.

Meriweather suspended for the same amount of games as Ray Rice.

At least the individual Meriweather hit was on a football field.

And was wearing a helmet.

And was a man.

So, there's nothing wrong with potentially ending a guy's career, simply because it was a "practice game" ?

Missing a preseason game matters - it hurts the player and team. Those games should count in terms of suspension if a foul occurring ion one is treated the same as it is in a regular season game.

They penalize regular season games because they can take the players game checks, right? Preseason pay is relative peanuts for players.

I know we've been hard on the media recently, but if you are on twitter you should read the timeline of @dangrazianoespn

He loves our chances this year. Absolutely refreshing and also has a great sense of humor.

Graziano has always been pretty fair and balanced. Good call

Its not like we dont have EVERY weapon and shouldn't just walk away with the division. We have one of the best duos in WR in the league, an up and coming stud TE, a stud RB, and (if his head is right) top notch QB. Our defense is good enough and can get better if they have time off the field to breathe as well....there is no reason we shouldn't walk away with the East or even NFC.

We would need the chips to fall and a lot of 'If's' to become 'did', but for everyone who's been clamoring about us needing more TALENT around here, you're 100% right that we've got more on this team now then we have in a LOONNG time
