The Name Change

As per the overall topic, I have unfortunately resigned myself to our team name changing within the next 5 years. It's kind of depressing, I'm pissed and I pretty much have nothing but contempt for all the jacks pushing this absurd agenda.

Unfortunately, between the combination of organization's handling of this "controversy" and the increasing public pressure, I think it's inevitable the NFL is going force this name change. That said, I will always refer to the team as the Washington Redskins and won't buy anything with our "new" name on it.

I'm not typically one to get riled up easily, but something about this transparent "issue" and the people pushing the anti-Redskins agenda really upsets me. I believe some of it has to do with the primary actors in this push who I have zero respect for. Or maybe the fact that this was not a big deal a few years ago and now it's a huge issue: the name "redskins" cannot be printed or uttered, dipcraps like Costas have to make theater of their righteous indignation and the team must be boycotted. Give me a frickin break, the whole thing is so manufactured and phony as hell, I can hardly stand it.
 
I understand that Harry Reid rejected Bruce Allen's invitation to a home game and will boycott the Skins 'til they change the name.

Giving up Skins games, relinquishing Skins gear, filtering media channels and doing whatever it takes.

Now that is selfless commitment to a cause.


Go get 'em Harry, don't forget to burn those season tickets on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial so you can take your place amongst the other great leaders of social reform.
 
No, it isn't. If they are going to try and abuse him to get something to happen they are in for a long fight.

The name change is no closer to coming than any other time its been brought up. Its just social media that keeps this dumb fire going.

Do you usually see strawman attacks being useful or successful? In most cases it doesn't work, I don't see this being much different.

I just expect them to be like people, and regress to the mean as always. Those people that "care" will always go back to being docile over time. They can only "care" for as long as real effort isn't required.

Add that to the standard short attention span and all it takes is something to distract them. I'm not concerned.

seems to me the real challenge is simply to survive/outlast Harry Reid.
 
It's doubtful the Reid has ever attended anything Redskins, boycotting by default, so his current stand is as empty as his words.
Sadly, some will not 'get it' and take it as an actual message of meaning.
 
Are there any slander/libel lawsuits pending against the Redskins for using a derogatory name? Who has filed? If no lawsuit, I see Snyder spending more on the native American cause than the protesters can cost us. If the NFL forces something which I don't see how, then we go back to being the Braves. Regardless I still keep the Redskins name in spun off company to safeguard copyright and brand. The team can then sell NFL licensed merchandise as Braves and Dan can sell Redskins merchandise through his non-NFL related company.
 
So, anyone wonder why the NFL has yet to come out against the name change? We questioned why management rolled over so easily on the cap mess…think this was why?

Ooh - that's a good one. Probably part of the roll-over reason. I think the biggest reason for the roll-over was, however, that in order to prove their case, Redskins'd have to sue vs. themselves and invalidate the CBA. Short term loss - long term gain.

I'm not supporting the name change until a credible, non financially motivated, Native American majority consensus requests it on verifiable grounds of prejudice. I don't see that happening, but if it does, I'd be ok with Warriors, I think. Keep everything else the same. If the calls for change continue to be based upon a misguided popularity contest - I don't think that's worth throwing out decades of meaningful history.

You will never get anyone from the Oneida to either confirm or deny this is about money, to do so would set their PC minded campaign back generations. But we know money is at the core.

Here is a thought i read somewhere, it appears the name "Redskins" offends some (not actualy sure of the %, so will stick to some) native Americans because they say it belittles them. But not once have theses same offended people ever said a word about the term Cowboys. Who lets face it killed a helluva lot of "redskins" on the migration to the West coast. I wonder why they do not find the term "cowboy" offensive?

Or is it simply because it is easy to attack the capitols team whilst ignoring "America's team"
