***2009-2010 Winter Weather Thread***

For those that care, the Federal Government is closed tomorrow

I'm pissed at this snow. If we get anymore than 10 inches I think this is the record.

Bob Ryan said this new storm is going to bomb, meaning the low will deepen off the coast and pound us again

Can they make that permanent?

Seriously. Then start from first principles and justify each new hire.

it actually wasnt that bad last pm, but conditions in rockville are rapidly deteriorating. thinking about walking to safeway in case they are thinking about closing early...

Are people in DC metro area shoveling roofs? Snowing here now, but suppose to only be dusting to 1 inch. This weather is killing my business.

Will be glad when we start a 2010 Spring Weather thread.

They don't need to close the whole thing, but some of the laziest Mo Fo's I've ever seen work for the government. Where I work, probably about 40% of the work force is concerned with getting things done. The rest are slackers that realize that no matter how bad you screw up, you can't be fired. Don't even get me started on the affirmative action types that think theyr're owed something.................

riggo44 - yeah, my next door neighbor was on top of her pitched roof yesterday shoveling. i didn't think it was necessary but she was worried about the additional accumulation today. i would think today's roofs[sic?] can withstand even a storm of this magnitude...

Ottawa really doesn't scare me, plus we're getting Varly back, I think we'll be fine. The only team that worries me is Buffalo.

Beamish...I've heard of some roofs on businesses in that area collapsing. It would be interesting to talk to a builder or engineer to see if a roof on a house built in recent years could withstand this type of weight.

i think the roof capacity is 25 lbs psf. maybe we're getting close? if so though, then it really doesn't make sense to add your own weight on the roof.

i think it's official now, this is the snowiest winter in dc history, 54.9 in

Thankfully, this latest storm skirted north of us in North Carolina. Another ice-storm/power-outage, and I was going James Brolin Amityville Horror-style :) For those of you not so lucky, hunker down, only go out for essentials (beer, chips), and be safe!
