Something Positive

"I'm hanging up the gloves" I said this to my girl several weeks ago. I'm done.

I'm 40 and I am tired of doing things a young man does. I don't want to fight anymore, physically or verbally. I had an extremely hard upbringing and 20s but now I can feel the bear inside starting to settle. I don't want to be that guy anymore that steps in to a place and people say "Don't **** with him". I want to be the guy that you invite to family functions, when you have parties, or looking for someone to have fun with without any second thoughts.

I have nothing left to prove. I know how to fight, I know how to argue. I know the words to use to get under someone's skin and to piss them off. But the example that was set for me by my parents isn't the one I want to set for my kids. Jr knows this but unfortunately also knows "Big Mike" and is attracted to that. He asks me questions all the time about fighting or how to stare at someone and convey that you aren't kidding with your eyes. Just things that remind me of how I used to do the same thing with my dad at his age. But instead of trying to discourage him I am going to show him how but explain that he should look to all other venues for solutions before resorting to violence or anger.

With Drogo I am hoping I will be able to just show him by being there already.

In order to not be negative, I need to not be negative.

"Not everything is an attack on your character or a challenge. Sometimes people just have different opinions and have the right to express them"

Things I tell myself every day now. That, and "I'm a ****ing lion!"

So, I'm going to ramble here, just a head's up... :)

I've had a really crappy couple of days. I'm going to have to write up one of my team members, and that more than likely means he will quit over it, which will leave me in the lurch, plus I like the guy, but he did something stupid. Anyway, I've moped around the last couple of days, despite telling myself it is his fault, not mine (which is true).

Sometimes, you get an unexpected lift.

During the Sunday School class my wife and I co-teach with the youth group leader, an exercise was given for the teens to write a letter to someone who is important to them, who has helped them get through something difficult, as a thank you. Larissa wrote her letter to me. My 16 year old daughter thanked me for being a great stay at home dad (her nickname for me since she knows it drives me nuts), and then thanked me for listening to all her "silly teenager problems" when she comes home from school. She said she looks forward to coming home every day because she gets to talk to me about her day and tell me what's going on in her life.

It's a little dusty in here right now. :)

There are no rule changes. Let's just keep this positive and leave it at that.

So my girl graduated from SDSU this past weekend. Her last year of school was spent pregnant, remodeling a house, working full time, planning a wedding, and living with me. I really don't know how she was able to pull it off but to watch her walk across that stage was amazing. All while her son was wearing his SDSU football jersey.

woke up to be with my son 5 times last night...I am literally a zombie this morning. But his Nana took the early morning bottle/nap shift.

I wouldn't trade this life for any other life in the world.

I remember those days well....used to work nights too and come home and relieve my wife so she could go into work...and then trying to stay awake and keep kids entertained all day. No harder job than being a parent and no more rewarding. Go Mike!

My youngest is almost 21. Great memories when kids were small. Cherish these moments. Before you know it he will have a beard and sipping beers with you.

lol..I got an 18 year old, too. He does that but then makes me want to choke him to sleep 5x a night!

The last ninety days of my life have been brutal. One incredibly bad, and challenging event after another. Like nothing I've ever experienced before--like biblically bad.

I mean pure evil nearly every single day. The kind of events that make you question nearly everything around, and inside of you.

But then, out of the blue, my brother just called and invited me on an all-expenses-paid cruise to Alaska that he won at work.

I'm leaving this dumpster fire behind. It will still be here when I return. And I'm flying out Tuesday morning for the longest vacation I've had in 21 years.

You have friends here. Don't wait till the dumpster fire has burned out to bend an ear. Sorry to hear things haven't been going well. One of the things we all forget is that we don't know what's going on in someone's real life. We ought to think about that before we get into some silly pissing match.

a freaking men.

I have realized that life is much deeper and the people are much more important than just on this website.

and I'm about 6 beers in to a work night with 2 hours before I get off for 3 days!!

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Above all, stay safe.
Alaskan country can be just as dangerous, as it is beautiful. Choose the latter.

Nice! I'm jealous. An Alaskan cruise is something I've always dreamed of. Have a blast, man.

Weren't you the one who was trying to decide between a Vegas trip and Bermuda ?
What happened with that ?

Yes, it was Vegas or the Bahamas. In short, neither ended up happening. I have been to Vegas ten times or so, and to the Bahamas probably twenty times or more. But each time has only been over a three day weekend--nothing longer.

My gf was furious about the thought of me in Vegas with my brother. She was so vocal and unpleasant about it, that it completely turned me off on taking her to the Bahamas instead. So I passed on both.
