McGlynn was miscast as a guard but did well at center. At 6'3 and 325 I thought we would get a deal done with him at reasonable cost.

Instead we passed.

De la Puente is going back to NO, he is just trying to get another team to offer him a deal he can take back to Loomis.

garcon not making the pro bowl last year is just more evidence that the pro bowl has become a joke and that the number of times someone was voted into the pro bowl, or wasn't voted in, is no longer a meaningful stat.

We often comment about the national coverage of the team, specifically ESPN. ESPN 980 had Bram Weinstein on today and he had some really interested comments. For those that don't know Bram got his start in DC hosting radio shows, being a sideline reporter, etc - oriented around the team. He's been at ESPN for a while now. He also apparently still owns season tickets. He spoke, among other things, about how there are a lot of people at ESPN that come from the DC area and they have lots of conversations behind the scenes about the team - most them meetings where they can all grieve during the season.

I spent a lot of time chatting with Bram on the sidelines and at Redskins Park when I did coverage for ES - he was one of the few traditional media guys who went out of his way to be friendly, one of the nicest guys on the planet. He will still respond to messages, has zero ego, despite being a big ESPN guy now. Love him. He also has a personal blog 'Me Talk Athlete' at metalkathlete.blogspot.com which he doesn't post to often now, but will occasionally post a Skins-related gem.

Saw an article on PFT this morning where the high and mighty Mike Florio decided it was OK to used the word Welshed in print discussing a bet by Roddy White that he didnt honor. Here is my response which will be promptly removed...

Hey Mike Florio you can't stand up on your high horse regarding the REDSKINS team name and then use an ethnically charged term like "WELSHED" on your for-profit website.

Maybe if one Welsh guy bought into a deal with NBC you could write about it incessantly? Maybe you could find another Halbritter who screws over thousands of his own people for the mighty dollar and then deflects the attention of that toward a soccer team or something. I'm just sayin'

in related news, colbert did a segment on our team name and managed to use really offensive language directed as asian americans and has drawn lots of criticism.

Well, kind of...

The Tweet came from a commedy central account dedicated to posting stuff about the show. The account is owned and maintained by Comedy Central and they've admitted as much. It is not owned nor controlled by Colbert so the tweet didn't come from him.

But - the tweet was a quote Colbert made on his show. Colbert did say those things. The argument is that the tweet puts those things out of context.

However people are still pissed off at what he said on his show, which aired so he can't deny he said it, even with the context. And I believe Colbert has apologized for that.

But you are looking at Seattle, SF, GB, Chicago, NO, CAR and AZ that all look to have playoff contending teams.

It's going to be tough.

I still think the Redskins are light on playmakers on defense.

If Orakpo raises his game and Hatcher really makes a difference up front perhaps the D will be better than advertised.

I still want to see how the secondary and OL come together in camp.

Are we done on the OL or are we going to draft the next Jansen to replace Polumbus?

Dont discount Philly... I do think they take a step back, but I still think they'll be a contender.

on paper i think that sets us up #1 in the division. we have the youngest, most dynamic quarterback. reed looked like a stud. jackson's problems are mental/attitude and while it's hard to believe you can significantly change that at his stage in life, we must remember that sometimes these problems really are simply solved by a change in scenery (keeping my fingers crossed...) Garcon should have made the pro bowl. Roberts is a big ?, but Morris is a horse.

Who would you put above them? Foles looks like he may be legit but I'll take Griffin every day of the week plus some. Eli is solid, but he needs people around him and I think last year showed they don't have enough. The Cowboys self destruct on queue and while Romo may be a statistically good QB, he cannot get anything meaningful done (maybe he needs a change of scenery!)

The eagles may be better because of their system, but we don't even know what our system will look like. Add in a new offense and theoretically a new defense (style of play wise), with no film on either, and we'll have a leg up.

I don't follow enough teams to know how we rate in the whole NFC. But I know that winning your division gives you a playoff bid and in todays NFL all you need is an invite to the dance - anything can happen from there.

Giants made some good offseason moves to solidify their OL and secondary. They will be competitive again after falling off the pace in 2013.

Dallas to me is the team that has done the least to get better.

Hatcher for Henry Melton is not an even up trade in talent.

Brandon Carr has been a bust for $45M. The Giants got DRC for less.

Claiborne is a question mark as a former top pick.

Ware and Austin were released but were not replaced.

Then you have age with Romo at 34 and Jason Witten at 31.

My feeling is this- If Griffin can return to form and the o-line gets at least somewhat improved, we will be as talented on offense with that group as any team in the NFC.
