JORDAN REED NAMED TO PFWA ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) announced today that Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has been named to their annual All-Rookie Team. With Reed’s selection, the Redskins have now had 32 selections to the All-Rookie Team since 1975.

Despite missing seven games in 2013, Reed, 23, finished the season with 45 receptions for 499 yards, which are both Redskins’ single-season rookie tight end records. His 499 receiving yards were second among all rookie tight ends in the NFL, while his 45 receptions ranked tied for seventh in the NFL among all rookies. Reed led all tight ends in receptions from Weeks 6-11 with 32 receptions, eight more than any other NFL tight end.

In Week 7, Reed set career highs in receptions (nine) and receiving yards (134) in Washington’s 45-41 win against Chicago and caught his second career touchdown. Reed’s 134 yards set the team record for receiving yards in a game by a rookie tight end. The record was previously held by Redskins great Jerry Smith, who registered 78 receiving yards on six catches vs. Dallas on Nov. 28, 1965. Reed’s 134 yards against the Bears were the fourth-most in a game by a Redskins tight end of any experience level.

Reed joins Chris Cooley (2004) as the only Redskins tight ends selected to the All-Rookie Team.

Well deserved. Let's hope he can avoid more concussions. Seems unlikely, but we can hope. Kids a baller even if he is a Gator.

Has anyone seen updates on how he's doing?

If he can stay healthy, our offense should be pretty solid if we can add some OL help and another WR

I have a feeling he probably could have played in the final games if they actually meant something, but that they shut him down to prevent further injury. Just a hunch.

He went out about the time we went on the losing streak.

Last year Davis went out about the time we went on the winning streak.

Hopefully Davis is gone or if Shanahan was his problem then maybe we already have our 2 TE's. Seriously though, Davis has had issues since Day 1 when he was sleeping, then couldn't put down the bong.

The report about this kid is that he's just a numb skull...in the literal sense of the word. Dumb. Gruden seems like the kind of coach who could get the most out of a player like that, but the Fred Davis experiment in DC has got to end!

Davis' time here is done.

No one is going to pay this joker $1.5-2.0M to come back and be Jordan Reed's backup.

We should have let him go to Buffalo last offseason.

Ditto with Morgan.

Addition by subtraction.

But he will still cost us almost $4M in dead cap hit for 2014.

For anyone who thought Morgan was NOT one of our worst signings under Shanny, please step up.

When compared to Larry Johnson, Willie Parker, and Turnstyler Polumbus, Josh Morgan is a downright pro-bowler.

But this just isn't close to accurate. Not one of them cost as much as Morgan...at a critical time (think cap hit timing). Not to mention, the salaries of those you mention don't add up to a cap hit as large as one year of Morgan's contract.

Players were bad, but financial ramifications make the Morgan signing far worse.

Sure it is...I was addressing talent.

Watch Morgan go to another team and become a Pro Bowler. Stranger things have happened. Brandon Lloyd ended up leading the league in yards with almost 1500 catching Kyle Orton passes. Ryan Clark just started for the Steelers for the 8th straight season. Carlos Rogers grew hands the year after he left the Redskins.

If Morgan is still under contract I'm all for keeping him, especially with Hankerson coming off an injury. He can be a good possession receiver and he's good at YAC. I don't think eating $4M is a good idea at all just to get rid of him.

That's the one that really pisses me off. The guy was too much of a douche to take the necessary steps for correction to his obvious vision problems but the second he goes out west it's "NO problem, I'll have the procedure to fix my eyes!" and he finally starts catching all the balls he dropped in Washington. Total assbag.

Morgan a pro bowler? :)

Some folks fears of the past are really close to the surface.

Let's recap. The Redskins WR corps consists of one established starter in Garçon.

We had 34 year old Santana Moss, inconsistent former picks in Hankerson and Robinson and then Morgan.

The fact is that despite this collection of motley talent, clearly the worst in the NFC East, Morgan as a fifth year player could not secure and maintain the other starting spot.

What happens when this team brings in better talent overall?

Morgan and the others will be gone.

Am I worried Gruden is going to draft a wide receiver with decent size and speed to be the #2 at the expense of a former sixth round pick whose ankle/foot injuries kept him off the field for almost 2 years in SF and then Washington?

Hell no.

And I am not going to compare him to other players like Rogers or Clark that WERE regular starters here and simply moved on to greener pastures.

Morgan and Davis for that matter have never finished a complete season without injuries, suspensions or other disappointments.

The simple truth is Mirgan doesn't have the speed or hands to be a force at wide receiver in the NFL.

And no one else but us was willing to pay an injured player to limp into town and then two years later sulk out as if he was a gem that was never recognized for his beauty

Campbell is having success in Cleveland, Novak, Suisham, all the kickers, Antonio Pierce led the giants' D for years...

I don't think its unique to the skins, but we do lose a lot of talent.
