2014 Coaching Search Rumors

Which very well may turn into a GM Search of some kind first, who knows. I figured a thread for reports instead of messing up other threads (or the random thought thread) made sense for those of us that are going to pay attention.

Chris Russell mentioning multiple, multiple sources (yes, he said it twice, he said it that way every time) both inside and outside the organization are saying Bill Cowher. There is very, very serious interest on both sides. Russell described him as the 'leader in the clubhouse'

Rumors are texans are working on contract with bill o'brien, so he may be out of the running.

If AJ Smith is made GM,I'd like to hear the phone call between Marty and Bill.

This team has taken one hell of a beating,on all fronts, during Snyder's reign, but this is as bad as I've seen it.

Am I wrong on that? Or maybe I'm just worn out on Redskins Drama?

I don't believe they make enough liquor or Calgon to take me away....lol

I wouldnt hate Cowher, but who would handle personnel? Would Cowher overhaul the offense? We're not exactly the Steelers here ...

I would not exactly be excited by Cowher. Guess it depends on the organizational setup and who his coordinators end up being.

Cowher would just reinforce where the Redskins get their operational philosophy: off the back of a shampoo bottle. Wash..rinse..repeat.

Nothing changes and in three, maybe four seasons,Bill is out and we're right back here,in this thread again.

Sigh.......

For the love of all that is Holy, PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS BE TRUE!!!

If Snyder is smart, he will take a page from his playbook years ago when we signed Zorn...this time hire someone who actually played a significant part in their success! Get Scot McCloughan for GM!!! He helped put many of the pieces together in San Fran and now he has helped be Seattle become a winner. He's proven!

John Keim reporting this morning that he knows they've already started talking to people.

He says sources indicate they've spoken to an unnamed minority candidate

He confirmed he's heard of reports about Cowher, but hasn't heard anything from Cowher's camp confirming it

Says Jay Gruden should get a good look.

Keim also says he thinks Brown will be elevated in role, not sure who will actually have all the power though.

think about it.

Cowher is a big name
He's already got super bowl rings
Been out of the game for a measurable period of time

I mean it screams Dan Snyder Hire.

I wouldn't know what to think if we went with Cowher. Don't believe he wouldn't be interested - for the kind of money Snyder pays, anyone is going to be willing to listen. Couple thoughts. Cowher lead the most consistent team in the NFL for 15 years. He did it with a lot of different players, 5 different QBs, none of them stars with names like O'Donnell, Stewart, Tomzcak, and Maddox. His offenses were top half of the league almost always and top 10 in about 5 of his 15 seasons. Defense? Well - you know about that. I would actually love to have a HC who is more concerned with defense than offense for a change. And we wouldn't have to worry about not focusing on the run game enough anymore. Biggest concern I would have with a re-tread coach like Cowher (impressive resume or not) would be how motivated is he, and how much would 7 years away from the NFL hurt him? I'd rather we go with a guy like Jay Gruden, someone younger, hungrier, and more in tune with today's NFL where points, passing, and lots of them seems to rule the day.

You guys saying 'Keep Shanny' need to forget that. The guy has done himself in. He deserves to get canned, and it's coming in the next 24 hours.

Hiring Bill Cowher would make CNN/FoxNews/MSNBC

It's most definitely a Snyder move.

Oh my god we're going to hire bill ****ing cowher

Hey, if it does happen, look at it this way. He's probably the dullest, drama-free coach in NFL history. He says what he does, and does what he says. I think he has the calm demeanor, personal skills, and lack of ego to handle a guy like RG3 well. I think players love him. Those aren't bad things.

Say NO to retread coaches! Every time we need a new coach Gruden, and Cowher's names come up. All I have to say is NO NO NO!

We do not need an old coach who is set in his ways, and won elsewhere. We need someone young, who wants to win for the first time and wants to do it here. I know good luck finding that right....

that's what we thought about shanahan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this place ruins people.

cohwer makes even more sense, on that note. we have to continually prove that it's not the people, it's the organization. what better way than to take a clean, respected name like cowher and turn it into complete dog shit after 3 or 4 years?!

just to add to the cowher fun:
Kevin Sheehan ‏@kevins980
good stuff from @Russellmania980 on Official Skins PreGame Show. Chris says Bill Cowher is "leader in the clubhouse" to replace Shanahan.

no new information there, just having fun

As someone said, hiring Cowher depends on the whole package. If we try giving him the keys to the whole kingdom, I am dead set against it. If he is the HC only, and we bring in a GM to help with personnel decisions, I could live with that, again, depending on his assistants. As Boone pointed out, Cowher has a pretty impressive record of success to point to, in many ways more impressive than Shanahan's.

But to me, it comes down to control.

Your problem is you're thinking like a fan, desperate to root for an organization that's sole interest is in winning football games and getting as many chances at a super bowl over the long haul as possible.

You have to start thinking like a marketing scum bag that only wants people to cling to the name.

Then you start understanding why these moves make so much sense

Can't say Cowher is at the top of my list either.

Wouldn't mind Wade Phillips or Lovie Smith.
