Commenting on the state of the locker room, Chris Russell said this morning:

Russell - I don't think you can convince Robert Griffin III that Mike Shanahan is a good coach for this franchise's future.

Kevin Shehan - What about the rest of the guys in the locker room, do they think Mike Shanahan is a good coach for this team?

*sigh* our coach and qb are in a pissing match and our qb is going to win and everyone's going to think that's great and the way it should be, but it feels like the same old stupid bullshit this team's been going through for 15+ years now.

Damn, I didn't see that either. Collinsworthless & Michaels were talking up the "huge hits" on that punt return later in the game but only mentioned that the Bengals "lost their punter" - interesting. Usually if someone is seriously hurt they won't talk it up like that. I wonder if that will get them in trouble?

I can see that but don't forget that the coach is the leader here and if this team was going like gangbusters and not such a clusterf#@! in almost every way then I'm sure Griffin wouldn't feel that way. If Griffin had gotten the instruction necessary to allow him to up his game even with the injury in mind maybe he'd feel different. But those things are not the case. Normally I'd be right with you and critical of the player but when the team is such a mess I'm looking at the HMIC and that's Shanahan. So in this case I want his ass gone and really don't care about all the fringe stories that come out of it. Winning and quality coaching solves everything.

But the problems on this team go much deeper than that. Personnel here is obviously not NFL caliber at a number of positions. Some players with marginal ability have been starters here for a couple of seasons, most notably on the offensive line and defense.

Conversely, if reports are true that a lot of the staff are inexperienced, could it not be them who are limiting the development as well? My issue is that Griffin's feelings on the issue carry weight, not how, when, or if they could change.

He would feel different if we were winning? Well, all the more reason he shouldn't be the one making the decision.

He's 23. Pardon me, but what the hell does he know about winning a super bowl?

Bad seasons happen. Is Matt Ryan petitioning Art Blank for Mike Smith to be fired in Atlanta, just because things didn't go so well this year? How about Jay Cutler asking Virginia McCaskey to fire Trestman because he got benched? Is Tommy Terrific talking to Robert Kraft about getting Belicheat fired because they're not winning every game by 40+ points this season?

No, because that is not how its supposed to work. Griffin's unfettered access to Snyder undermines anyone who comes in here to coach. Vince Lombardi could rise from the grave and come coach here, and he would be unsuccessful as long as Griffin is buddy-buddy with Snyder.

There's nothing to like about this situation right now. And it was seen coming back in April.

Lanky, if the fault lies with the assistant coaches who don't properly prepare their units to play and improve over 16 games then that goes back on Shanahan as well.

The Head Coach/GM is responsible for these hires, they can't be laid at the feet of Dan Snyder.

Haslett has had middling success as a DC in the NFL and has had a poor unit here over the past 3 plus seasons.

Keith Burns is an absolute disaster as special teams coordinator. Whether it is his style or the substance of what he is 'teaching' the players, it seems clear there is nothing but confusion and a lack of buy-in here.

On the offensive line, we spent three draft picks on LeRibeus, Gettis and Compton. Foerster has been working with them and with Maurice Hurt, etc. and after 2 years NONE of these players are good enough to get on the field to challenge ANY of the starters on this line?

Once again, that is either poor coaching of technique or poor player selection on the part of Mike Shanahan.

You go around the league and there are rookie draft picks and second year guys starting on the OL around the NFL, a number taken in the middle to late rounds.

I saw part of it. So did others. A few saw this potential way back then, and I give them props.

Remember when the media reports about Griffin and Shanahan not getting along were written off?

Or that his campaign to start week 1 was misguided and could cause problems?

That Griffin was insecure about Cousins?

That him and his dad were taking shots?

That there were serious issues with Griffin's ability to work from the procket, go through progressions, not lock onto guys? The whole route tree stuff.

All of it written off as nonsense by the masses.

There is smoke...and I've gotten to know Snyder well enough to know that in his case - if there's smoke, there's fire. He has a history of doing this, and it looks like history is repeating itself. That might not be enough evidence for some, but for me, I'm no longer willing to give Snyder the benefit of the doubt.

I did not - I was actually one of the ones making fun of tshile for posting it. But everything is coming together now in my view, sad to say. All the random trees are starting to look like a forest.

The only evidence is that they had thanksgiving together last year, and that Shanahan said in a presser last week that Snyder really cares about the qb and situations involving him but doesn't care about the other players.

Very weak evidence. I think at this point it's Snyder's history that is supporting the theme more than actual evidence.
